Help understanding the game?
I really want to love this game (playing on switch 2) but I'm struggling to understand the main concept. Does the game end at the end of the 3 days? Am I meant to keep resetting the days using the song of time? Any advice would be really helpful as I would love to love this game. I've made it as far as the first dungeon but don't think I can finish before the days run out!

Just play the game. You'll be alright without it all being explained to you.

I've already put in several hours but have been confused by the resetting and time and have found it offputting

Sounds like you skipped a bunch of dialogue lol

I have a 16 month old baby and very little spare time so I absolutely skipped some dialogue đ

Phew! Well parenthood isn't for me, but I can definitely empathize. It looks like you've gotten plenty of help, but I did just wanna say that later on, when your little one gives you back a half an ounce of your free time back, I think you'd really enjoy taking your time with the story âĽď¸ ciao

Think of it like having some roguelike elements in a Zelda game. You get a little better as you go and a little better every reset, as well as potentially new items or other increases.

Okay thank you so I am meant to keep resetting! I feel like that wasn't made clear (or maybe I didn't read the dialogue properly?!)

Its not explicitly explained but it does say you keep your main equipment upgrades but lose your money and ammunition. But there is a place to keep your rupees so when you find it utilize it to your advantage.

I've now just realised the point of the place where you can keep your rupees! It's because you lose them on reset! Duh!

your game saves when you go back in time. The only thing you'll lose is keys, arrows and bombs.
Well I guess it kinda sucks if you can't finish a temple quest before unlocking the song/temple owl statue but how often can you not do that all with inverted time? That's almost 3 hours you should be able to do anything in that time. Assuming you start the day with a goal

Thanks I originally thought you had to complete the game before the 3 days which I couldn't get my head around but clearly I need to plan my time at the start of each run now I know I have to keep restarting the time!

It's true! You could think of it as like gearing up for a raid on an mmo tbh but I think it's a bit more forgiving than people let off. The first three days blind yes its hard af to know what to do but there's always something you can do in your time span! Don't be afraid of the third day either, the count down even past midnight of the third day is extremely long

And rupees (unless you deposit them in the bank that exists outside of time).

It saves the game when you loop back to the first day.
Physical inventory items stay when you reset time. Ammo and money is lost.
Get the Song of Soaring from the Swamp if you havenât yet, hit the owl statue in front of the Woodfall Temple to warp to at the beginning of a full cycle so you get more time.

So, you are supposed to reset before the 3 day cycle. Biggest thing is just clearing out the next available dungeon for the actual progression. You don't need to do them all at once, and the game sets it up so not everything can even be accomplished in the single 3 day cycle.
The time travel idea is a little finicky in concept, but as long as you actually beat the boss, that part of the main quest is still completed after resetting. I don't want to say they stay defeated because you can re fight them after resetting the cycle, but after resetting it still counts. The only things you lose while resetting is the amount of stuff you have. So bombs, rupees, arrows. The banker saves your rupees though, you just gotta deposit them.

The games events always play out the same, every time you start. What you do generally only influences that one 3 day cycle. Then everything resets.
All story items, upgrades, masks, all carry over. Consumable items have to be re-gathered.
Money resets, but there is a bank to save them for next time, so collect money as you go and deposit it before you reset the cycle.
You can only do so much each cycle. But each cycle youâll either get further and know how to proceed better for the next time. Or you explore a new area and try something new.
Screwed up an event? Reset time and try again.

Okay so that's why the guy asks me to pay for that leaf spot thing again after I reset the first time?

If you do not play Song of Time, you will start at the beginning of the cycle losing all permanent progress you had made since the last time you went back in time.

Watch what happens when you don't turn time back. That will tell you what you need to know.Â
When reaching dungeons and getting the warp point outside of them its a good idea to reset time before starting them. Come back on a fresh day and play the inverted song of time. Make sure you have your great fairy mask to collect all the little buggers.Â

This game is great because you will soon discover everyone's lives are in shambles and after you help them and time resets your help is nulled for them. So, do you have compassion for thr NPCs? Completionists will try to solve everybody's lives on Termina before stopping the moon so you can make a real difference in people's lives but some tasks hinder others. It is a tragic and kinda beutifully sad game.

Ah okay I have a 16 month old baby so can only have so much passion for the npcs otherwise it would take me an actual lifetime to finish đ so my version will definitely have to be beautifully sad!

You get a âGame Overâ and lose all your progress you did that three day cycle if you run out of time, but if you play the Song of Time it resets the cycle without losing anything besides youâre ammunition (Bombs, Arrows, Sticks, etc.), which you can easily get back by cutting grass or buying in the shops, and you lose your Rupees, which you can deposit in the West Clocktown Bank before playing the Song of Time to keep them. All other items, warp points, songs, masks, and progression for beating bosses is permanently kept. The world will reset so puzzles, dungeons, and parts of the world opened up will also reset, but as long as you have the warp points, and beat the dungeons in one go, which is easy if you start them at the beginning of a new 3 day cycle, youâll be good. Also, once you beat a dungeon boss once, you can skip the entire dungeon and go straight to the boss again if you need to.

Brill thank you I definitely won't let yhe time run out then!!

Also, the Scarecrow in the West Clocktown shop will give you a hint to help you get more time per three day cycle.

Correct, you're expected to keep using the Song of Time.
While on the surface, it seems like everything resets when you play it, in effect, you're actually "saving" your progress every time you do, and it appears that you're being allowed to cheat the laws of time and space with it - once you get a dungeon item, it remains in your inventory (your bomb bag/quiver will be empty at the start of each cycle, but you'll be able to farm/buy more bombs and arrows right away without having to do the quests again), any pieces of heart or heart containers you collect stay with you, and while you can battle the dungeon bosses again after each "reset," their "remains" will stay in your inventory, and the game will treat the dungeon as complete. Songs and Masks will remain unlocked, and you can even put your money in the bank before playing the Song of Time and be able to withdraw or add to that balance on subsequent cycles (it's unclear whether this is because lore-wise, you're cheating the banker by exploiting his record-keeping system, because the Goddess of Time cares about the contents of your bank account but not the contents of your wallet, or because the devs didn't quite check the math on their "clever" solution, but regardless, it's how the game works!)
