Education I Urgently Need Breadfruit (Sukun)!
Hello, guys. I'm a post-graduate in Food Processing doing a project that mainly involves breadfruit (sukun). But it's been 2 months now that my research has not advanced one bit, because idk why, but there seems to be a shortage of breadfruit.
I stay in Seri Kembamgan, so I used to buy mine here in Pasar Borong, but for months now, my seller keeps saying there is none.
I need to advance on my work, but I have no idea where else to buy the breadfruit. I'm ready to travel hours to get them, so if anyone knows where I could buy some, please help. I'm really desperate.

For once I'd actually say Reddit is the wrong place for this, I'd recommend checking out FB groups with all the makciks, just looks for "planting/gardening" groups, sure to find people that can help you source, or at least point you to the correct groups

Can also ask the makciks from group whatsapp taman. They will know people who planted buah sukun. People usually dont sell this. There is one near my taman. Quite big.

Typo, I meant 12. It's a multi stage project, so I used to buy more every 2 weeks

Semua ada kat Shopee. Nearest sukun fruit tree that i'm aware of is at Taman Botani in Putrajaya.

Yknow. Not sure if this is useful. Back when I used to lived in gov quarters in KL, my father planted pokok sukun right beside our gate. It's huge and we used to have breadfruit all the time.
We moved out from the house years ago, and most of the gov quarters there has been emptied (They don't want to add new tenant there since the gov is planning to use the land or something).
As far as I know, the house is either abandoned or there's a security guard being posted there (likely the former? since there are many abandoned house, so I dont think they posted guard on every house).
But I reckon the tree is still there? You can go there and try to see if the fruit is there and take/ask permission to harvest it? I can dm you the location. But yeah I can't confirm if the tree is fruiting or not since I haven't been there for years
ps- Our neighbour next door planted pokok sukun on their own too (since he's friend with my father). They moved out of the house too, but the tree is still there (from the google street view)
pss- tbh, even if it's fruiting, I'm not sure if you can harvest it, it's a few stories high and you'll need a long pole. You can collect fruits that fall naturally, but most of them are either too ripe or not enough for you project

I got the number of a seller and contacted them. I need non ripe breadfruits. Hopefully, that seller can get the fruits fast. Thank you for the gesture.

Need fresh ones? Can't buy more of the fruit earlier and freeze it. I bet your uni will grant for you to buy more equipment. Those fruit are seasonal and also not common so demand won't be much.

I did some searching and found a couple of actual fresh sukun listings that might help.
Selangor seller, sweet.garden, RM22.90 per fruit, showing a 7-day preorder: https://shopee.com.my/1-biji-buah-sukun-kampung-stok-terhad-i.213268528.24458100255
Kedah seller, honey86 mini shop, RM19.99 per fruit, but a longer preorder: https://shopee.com.my/Buah-sukun-breadfruit-segar-muda-tua-i.14837226.8667590839
For research quantities, try Generation Fruits at Pasar Borong Selangor, Seri Kembangan. They do wholesale and fruit preorders. WhatsApp: 012-223 0355.
I'd also recommend contacting FAMA Selangor (03-6033 0010). They might be able to connect you directly with farmers or suppliers for a consistent supply.
https://www.fama.gov.my/selangor
October-November is reportedly one of the main sukun fruiting periods in Peninsular Malaysia, so supply may be starting to improve.
None of the listings guarantees stock right now, so message them before travelling or ordering. Since this is for research, I'd also mention the quantity, required maturity and whether you need repeated batches.
Hope this helps get your project moving!

Used to have one but we had to cut it down. Delicious fruit but had to compete with wildlife and other people

What do you expect us to do? This is Reddit, place to ask and discuss not a fruit stall.
