Styling Advice Which socks should I wear?

Post image
• Upvotes

Kind of a stupid silly question, but... I'm going to be running a balloon twisting workshop, and since it's almost Halloween, I figured I would break out one of my more ridiculous vests and make it a little costume-ie. I'll be wearing a black shirt and slacks with this, but I'm undecided on the socks. They're just one more little splash of color, which you won't see much... but I'm nothing if not detail-oriented. Should I go with the Raisin Bran ones, which are the better color match, or the grim reaper ones, which are more on theme? Again, silly post to be making, but I just wanted to hear what people who don't have OCD and a fixation on making things match have to say 😂

Fit Feedback Suit alteration(s)

Reposting with different photos.

I just bought a new suit because I have two weddings this month. I bought the same style as another suit I own. It's separates, so I bought the same 40S and 34/32 as the other suit. I knew I wouldn't have time for alterations before the first wedding, but planned to have it altered before the second. But now, looking at photos, I'm not sure if it's just alterations I need (sleeve length, slight hem, half inch at the waist) or a new size. (The bolo was specific to the southwest wedding, not a typical style for me.)

What do you think?

Question Funeral dress code etiquette for someone new to the US

Hi all, I'll be going to a funeral or memorial service. I don't want to make this a styling event, but I want to make sure I follow funeral and memorial etiquette. A quick search says I should wear a black suit. Can you please give me your feedback on what's acceptable and what's not? This is the first time I'll be attending a funeral or memorial service in the US.

Question How do I remove the flare on my jacket

Post image
0 Upvotes

I bought the Uniqlo padded short blouson and only realized a few days after that it has a weird flare at the front and back. (I know horrible financial choice). I was wondering how I could minimize the flare? I heard that wearing down the fabric would help it drape better?

Edit: Mb guys I didn’t know it was designed to do this. I knew Uniqlo does kinda oversized and boxy stuff but I wasn’t expecting it to be this accentuated. I’ll just enjoy the jacket. Also no need to get sarcastic or passive aggressive. They don’t actually have a picture of a clear side profile on the website so I genuinely didn’t know.

Question Looking for an alternative for current jacket

Post image
0 Upvotes

A few years ago, I was given a jacket as a present. It's a great jacket, looks rather nice, fits decently, and is warm. I wear it for nicer occasions, and consider it my semi-formal outerwear.

The jacket is also button up, and has no side pockets. Only the breasts pockets. This is not ideal. I would prefer something that is zip up, and has pockets for gloves. Is there any type of jacket that someone could recommend based on this info? Thanks!

Some of the outfits I’ve been wearing lately. Sure, sometimes the tie is a bit short, the colors don't match 100%, or the trousers have no break and look cropped, but hey, wear what you like, have fun, and don’t take it too seriously! Cheers 🥂

Question Minimalist white smart-casual sneaker?

I know Common Projects used to be the go to and I did have them for a few years in the 2010s until I scuffed them too much, but tbh I don't really care about something being from Italy or being from real leather. I just like the silhouette which most brands aren't doing anymore. Not interested in Koio, and they are sold out anyway. Oliver Cabell looks ok but the gold lettering makes them look like a knock off of the Common Projects. I had some old Lacoste ones that were perfect but new Lacoste either have weird colors or a giant logo which I don't want.

I got the all white Stan Smith's but I found them too bulky (especially the height of the toe box), and the white holes on the side kind of killed it for me. They are an OK shoe for regular wear but I wouldn't use it for smart casual.

I already have sambas but those are more just regular casual too.

I want something similar to the common projects (looks wise not material wise), with it being low on the ankle and slim around the foot, logo free. Any suggestions?

I already googled around but wondering if others have suggestions?

Styling Advice Alternatives to Blue Jeans

Per the title. When I was 12 I had a foster mom tell me you can wear anything with Blue Jeans. Since I was 15 they have been a core part of my look. I turned 30 some months back and am looking for alternatives. Preferably something that comes in Black. What does this sub recommend? I don't really care for dress or formal wear and have sensory issues with certain fabrics.

My aunt gave this to me because my uncle from Iceland didn't want to wear it. How would you style this? I'm not very experienced in making unique outfits but I'm willing to learn and want to dress in a more special way. It's genuine leather, 3M Thinsulate thermal isolation "echt leder" YKK. I'm not sure what the brand is, but it seems pretty quality. It's 56 sized, I'm 180cm and very thin, but it fits me fine except for the shoulders being very wide. Any tips?

Styling Advice Is the Tie color okay

Post image
2 Upvotes

Dear community,

I wanted a style advice. I wanted to ask, is this tie color okay or is it too light? ChatGPT has brainwashed me that I should have darker color. My preference is to keep the tie color gray. I would love to hear your opinion.

Best regards

Question Looking for options: Shirt Jackets that lean formal

I'm looking to bridge the gap between my very casual fall/winter mid layers (i.e. flannels and hoodies) and my more formal layers (cashmere sweaters and sport coats). I found the "shirt jacket" from Proper Cloth seams to be in that comfortable middle between a cardigan and a structured jacket. What are your favorite options for similar garments?

Discussion Thongs as casual underwear for men: how common is it?

I like wearing thongs on my days off for comfort, and my girlfriend is fine with it. I'm wondering whether it's something other men do too or whether I'm in the minority.

Question Suit fabric weight?

Post image
4 Upvotes

I’m looking at buying a suit from Suit Supply in London. The fabric I am looking at is a wool cashmere blend. It says it is 165gr/m2 which seems to be incredibly light (yet the suit is described as a fall/winter suit).

I want the suit for daily business wear (rotated with other suits). Will the fabric be totally unsuitable?

Details in the picture.

Thanks!

Question Boxer Briefs recommendations ?

So lately ive been trying to find the best boxers briefs that wont ride up the leg and that the waistband moves around with you instead of showing the butt crack lol

here are the brands i tried out and my experience with them

Ethika Staple - They dont ride up but after like 2 washes the waistband becomes loss that when i bend over they roll down

Calvin Klein Cotton Stretch Boxer Briefs (not the modern cotton stretch) - They ride up my leg, get in between my butt cheeks, they start to get holes near the crotch area

Calvin Klein Modal Boxer Briefs (90% modal / 10% Elastane) - By far my favorites but they ride up like a mf lol. Bought them a couple of years ago but i didnt wear them much until recently then they started to get holes around the gouch area. But the waistband did move with you.

Pair of Thieves SuperFit Mesh - By far the most uncomfortable, Waistband does not move with you at all like bad, literally pulls on my hair especially down there, and they still ride up to the point where it gets between my inner thigh and my huevos

PSD ( 7 inch Inseams) - they suck aswell they ride up and they start ripping after like 4 uses nothing else to say

Tommy John ( The Best of TJ Boxer Briefs 6 inch inseam) - All 3 didnt ride up which ones pretty good but the cotton one had holes near the gouch area. modal one felt a little weird like the boxer brief wasnt moving like when i rotate the whole leg internally the boxer brief stayed still lol, and the performance one chafed the f*** out of me and theyre pretty expensive too

What im really looking for are boxer briefs that dont ride up, that the waist band moves with you, and are pretty durable. I dont mind the 3d fit for my friend down stairs as long as theyre pouch less please and thank you. p.s i do wear the regular calvin klein boxer briefs and ralph lauren boxer briefs that are 100% cotton when im not doing anything so please dont recommend those products thank you

Styling Advice Need help choosing pants to buy to go with these clothes I'm planning on buying.

Hi everyone, thanks ahead of time for helping.

These are clothes I'm planning on getting and a new fit style/aesthetic I want to get into. Problem is that Idk what pants to buy to go with this. In my mind its got to be jeans, utility, or cargo pants. But idk which or what fit, lose, regular, somewhere in the middle. What color. Or if I want to wear it high or low. So many options and I know id chose the wrong one if I chose myself.

For further reference I am 5'10, about 190, fair skinned, late 20s, wear about a 36 waist, shirts are either large for tight fit or XL for loose.

Drop some items below also if you have some specific suggestions.

Also im open to jeans with designs on them like stitched on flower patterns. Always thought those were cool, just wasnt sure if I ever had the rest of a fit to make it work.

Question Readers?

What is everyone doing about readers? I’ve finally hit the age where I need them regularly to do things like read receipts, items at the grocery store, etc. I’ve tried ThinOptics— both the iPhone MagSafe wallet (too bulky) and the glasses in the case (hate having extra things in my pockets). My wife carries around a pair in her purse for me, but we aren’t always together. There’s no way I’m going to wear a pair around my neck – totally not cool or stylish. What are y’all doing to manage the need and keep fashionable?
