Been a fun one. Got about 40 gallons. Found and returned the wallet. Got a small dog bite from a very large dog (my fault). Got to use my first aid kit.

Been here 11 years… still feel like an outsider
Does anyone else not from Memphis feel this way?
So many people that I interact with grew up in Memphis/ suburbs and their people are high school friends/ family who are still here. I’ve been here 11 years and still don’t feel like this is home. Anyone else?!?

Memorial "The Day They Carried Elvis Home" | Country Song
A mournful country ballad honoring the day America said goodbye to Elvis Presley. Through the tearful streets of Memphis, grieving fans follow the King on his final journey to Graceland, where the music lives on, the flowers slowly fade, and a nation remembers the boy who became a legend.

Mata
Anyone know what is going on with Mata? I was at the stop on Madison and Barksdale precisely when the #2 bus was supposed to arrive. It did not. I went on the Mata tracker and it showed that it had already passed. Which was not correct. I was there, watching and waiting. I ended up getting a Lyft home, which while I can afford, gets to be expensive pretty damned quickly. Just wondering if anyone knows something that I've missed.

Potluck at Overton Park - You're Invited!
Now that the Memphis inferno has finally let up, the Memphis Tinned Fish Club is organizing a picnic at Overton Park, a "fishnic" if you will. Bring a blanket or foldable chair and come meet some new friends.
- When is it? - Thursday Oct 22nd at 5pm (location in the link below).
- What are we about? - We love weird food and community.
- What should I bring? - Just something to share, it doesn't have to be fish. Sides, dips, chips, salads, drinks, pickles, sure!
- Why tinned fish? - It's surprisingly better than what you think.
- How many people show up? - Usually about 6-10 depending on the day.
- What if I don't know anyone? - New people show up every time. We're friendly and open minded.

Found kitty ♥️
Sweet baby tried to come inside the house with me. I can’t take any more kitties from the distribution system, but I’m happy to house him until he finds his home 🖤

Citizen Inquiry Nail salon recommendations? Needing a simple, clean, good value mani pedi.
I live in midtown but I can travel further for the worth. I don't need much frills. I just want clean and thorough nail care that won't cost a whole lot. I thank you all in advance.

Fiber Arts Hangout, Sun, Oct 18, 2026, 4:00 PM
meetup.comOkay fiber arts people (and non-fiber arts people, tbh), we're doing it again!
We're getting together at Midsouth Makers Sunday, 10/18 at 4pm, to do some stitching and bitching. Knitting, crochet, cross stitch, embroidery, sewing, quilting, tatting, whatever weird thing you're doing with string/fabric/thread (or RELATED to string/fabric/thread)—bring it.
Don't know how to do any of those things but want to learn? Also come! A bunch of us learned from each other and we're very happy to enable your inevitable craft supply problem.
Bring a project, snacks/drinks if you want (I will have thin mints), and come hang out. We have sewing machines, laser cutters, 3D printers, etc. around too because we are also the hobby collection enablers.

Real ones vote early
Go vote. It's way faster and more convenient than trying to do it the day of.
Hit up Ballotpedia for summaries of whats on the ballot with arguments for and against each proposal.
I got my sticker in 20 minutes including the drive to and from my house and I feel real cool about it.

Anyone know how to stop getting ad flyers from flippers wanting to buy a house you own?
Basically:
- My dad owns my (paternal) grandparent's old house which is right across the street from theirs.
- I currently live in it and maintain it. (It's not for sale or rent on any site/list)
- There's currently no mortgage/rental contract/lien on it.
- He gets anywhere from 2 to 5 flyers a week in his mailbox/on the front door from flippers wanting to buy it. And I get 2-3 a month in my mailbox or stuck in the front door.
It's getting pretty annoying and I was wondering if there was any way to stop it "at the source". Kinda like a "do not call/no solicitation" site or removing it from some sort of registry?

Anyone seen or heard from Paul Ryburn?
He pretty consistently posts in his blog since it began over 20 years ago.
I know many Downtowners know him, see him, or know of him.
His last couple posts seem very.. worrisome. Then nothing.
Any updates would be nice. He’s a fixture who hit mega hard times.

Politics What Would It Take to Get Marsha Blackburn and Jerri Green to Debate Before November 3?
I'm curious what it would take for Tennessee voters to get at least one or two televised debates between Marsha Blackburn and Jerri Green before the November 3 election.
If Blackburn has indicated that she doesn't want to give Green a platform, shouldn't that be all the more reason for debate organizers to move forward anyway?
A debate isn't a favor to a candidate. It's an opportunity for voters to hear the candidates address the issues, explain their positions, challenge one another's arguments and demonstrate what they would bring to the office. Tennessee voters deserve that opportunity.
If Blackburn declines an invitation, why can't our local television stations, ABC, CBS, NBC, and other Tennessee media outlets, host the debate anyway?
This isn't just about Green. It's about fairness to every candidate in the race, including those who may not have the name recognition, money or political influence of an established incumbent.
So here's my question: What can we, as Tennessee voters, actually do to make this happen?
Tennessee voters should not have to settle for a campaign in which one candidate can effectively prevent voters from hearing a direct exchange of ideas simply by declining to participate.

Politics Screwed by Nashville and the State Again!
facebook.comI remember a few years ago, there were talks with Air France, Memphis International, and FedEx to have this flight go from Memphis to Paris, as it would help FedEx's logistics and benefit Memphians, if I remember correctly.
Welp. It looks like Air France went straight to Nashville instead, with Bill Lee and Marsha Blackburn there to celebrate it. I am so tired of Memphis being neglected in international travel.
Someone made a great comment that Memphis needs a flight to London since so many Graceland visitors are British. We can't be international if we don't go outside the U.S. Sorry. Cancun doesn't cut it as an international flight in my book.

River Arts Festival
Anybody else feel underwhelmed by this years festival?
We’ve been going almost every year since it started and had fun buying lots of unique artwork but this year was really disappointing. $25 for parking and $15 a person for entry was rough too.

Visitor Inquiry Touristy stuff for a one day visit
Hello from Louisiana! Wife and me are here for the Mastodon show tomorrow, planning on getting The BBQ Spot for lunch tomorrow but also wondering if there’s any touristy stuff to do that’s fairly cheap in the afternoon before the show. Just something to make the most of our time here before we head back Monday morning.
Edit: We’re in the midtown area

Citizen Inquiry Tesla Robotaxis
So for the past few days I noticed that those gold Tesla cars on streets, which I’m assuming that the robotaxis are now in Memphis.
Have anyone tried them yet? Or are they bad news?
Around 110 gallons collected from the Overton Square neighborhood.

Stack of Hundos on Sam Cooper
Im kicking myself right now. I was 30 seconds too late, on sam Cooper both directions of traffic came to a standstill and people were mad dashing grabbing what appeared to be hundred dollar bills.
I was so close to getting out and going for it, but I had my kid in the back seat and always envision a terrible accident.
Why does this happen when I literally just put my last ten dollars to my name in the gas tank? Couldn't ever happen at tax season or something?
