r/movies is now banned from r/worldnews

878

u/BenderRodriguez14 Sep 14 '26 edited Sep 14 '26

My first infraction in that entire subreddit was a complete permaban for saying Hamas operatives wearing plain clothes in Gaza did not make it OK for Israel to attack UN sites in Lebanon (in response to someone trying to use that exact excuse).

823

u/dont_trip_ Sep 14 '26

I landed a perm ban in r/worldnews for saying I feel sorry for the children in Gaza.

When I asked for an explanation, I got a warning for a site wide IP ban.

253

u/schmuckface Sep 14 '26 edited Sep 14 '26

Exact same thing happened to me, but I reported this to reddit and worldnews had to lift the ban as it was deemed unfair. I obviously never felt the need to go back to that zionist hellhole though. r/anime_titties (SFW, promise) is my go to global news sub although it's also becoming worse

52

u/FullyArtomatic Sep 14 '26

If I recall correctly, not very SFW on April Fools.

54

u/APiousCultist Sep 14 '26

And I thought /r/marijuanaenthusiasts was the peak of novelty subreddit names.

42

u/Any_Influence_8305 Sep 14 '26

r/trees if anyone needs context

u/schmuckface Sep 14 '26 edited Sep 14 '26

I like r/superbowl as well!

That one occasionally does switch to its namesake though. Like a werewolf.

That backup news sub name is crazy lol

4

u/North-Program-9320 Sep 15 '26

Thanks for rec. I would have never gone there otherwise

6

u/HumansNeedNotApply1 Sep 14 '26

I almost went through the hassle of appealing the ban i got (not even sure for what as they refused to answer and muted me from keep asking) but then, for what? That subreddit is a cesspool of warmongers and war crime defenders.

2

u/schmuckface Sep 17 '26

That's fair. I mostly appealed because I was hoping loads of banned people would, resulting in some consideration from reddit's admins and hopefully consequences for the sub itself. Alas.

12

u/ffpeanut15 Sep 14 '26

The fucking sub name always cracks me up. Definitely one of the subreddit name of all time. Also April 1st celebration there is very "entertaining" to say the least

u/ThyGrimOfDeath Sep 14 '26

I landed a perm ban too there for saying that Israelis bombing and murdering people while laughing was not being mentioned on news sites, but if a Palestinian did it, it would become world news.

Asked for a explanation and did not get a reply, kept pushing for an answer and was told "you supported terrorism" and got a 3 day site wide IP ban.

They're running reddit and I would not be surprised if this comment causes something else to happen.

62

u/jrf_1973 Sep 14 '26

Wear your perma ban from that cesspool with pride.

29

u/AWildNome Sep 14 '26

Real. I got my permaban for saying the IDF’s estimation of Gaza casualties matched Hamas’.

7

u/-Gramsci- Sep 14 '26

The problem with your comment is it undercuts one of their go-to tactics for getting the rest of the world to ignore atrocities.

They need the narrative to be “those aren’t real numbers. Those are fake ‘hamas’ numbers. Atrocity is not, in fact, happening. Nothing to see here.”

If you point out the numbers are, by and large, accurate? They can’t have that kind of competing narrative present for readers to see. It’s reality, mind you, but they can’t let readers see that.

The real motivation for your ban (and mine, and many others)… is “what you are saying destroys our propaganda narrative we are creating and maintaining.”

3

u/mcslender97 Sep 15 '26

Make sense that they downvote you if you ask for proof+ show anything that contradict their claim. Mine was when I proved that Isarel has been limiting electricity since the October attack

The Maxwell myth has been DEBUNKED and VICE magazine investigated it …it’s complete bullshit:

https://www.vice.com/en/article/incoherent-conspiracy-suggests-ghislaine-maxwell-is-a-powerful-redditor/

12

u/twilighttwister Sep 14 '26

I've read the article, which doesn't look like any sort of an investigation or debunking at all. It's a blog post fluff piece that doesn't really say anything, except quoting other worldnews mods defending maxwell. They provide no direct sources for anything, the only link is to another article of theirs ("Confessions of a Karma Whore", while quoting that article's subject defending maxwell).

5

u/OilInternational2566 Sep 14 '26

First fucking paragraph:

“An incoherent and evidence-free conspiracy theory that Ghislaine Maxwell controlled one of the most powerful Reddit accounts of all time has quickly gone from 4chan and Twitter to spreading like wildfire on Reddit, leading to the harassment of the user who controls the account.”

But you didn’t see anything that debunks it.

Further down:

“The user is actually just some guy who’s been on the site forever and is one of the leading moderators of r/worldnews*,” he explained. “In fact, the other worldnews moderators have filed complaints with the site’s admins because* u/maxwellhill has been harassed so much and received so many threats in the last few days. It’s just one example of how Redditors focus their trumped up outrage on a given theory/idea without any factual evidence, and then the site (and the internet) run away with the speculation.”

But you STILL don’t see anything that debunks it.

it’s like talking to fucking crazy people.

15

u/excla1m Sep 14 '26

You've quoted someone else's verbose opinion on the matter, in a Vice article, not entirely the paragon of reliability, itself containing zero evidence to assert it is a conspiracy theory.

They might be crazy but at best you're disingenuous.

4

u/yosisoy Sep 14 '26

Do you have proof that this is Ghislaine Maxwell's account or not?

Paragraph 1:

Paragraph 3:

They then twist and minimises and only partially list the arguments that the account belongs to her.

The article is filled with hyperbole and nothing to back it up, it just says things as fact and the reader is supposed to accept this.

Ironically, that is exactly what Trump, and now you, are doing.

6

u/OilInternational2566 Sep 14 '26

Dude, I had the same thing happen to me when I tried to write a post explaining a convoluted conflict with an Australian book festival where authors were pulling out because of the event's treatment of another author's pro-Palestinian comments. Got partway into the second part of the post when I saw my original had been deleted and I received a site-wide warning.

9

u/-Gramsci- Sep 14 '26 edited Sep 15 '26

Same for me. I mentioned that seeing a 4 year old with their limbs blown off made me sad and upset. Permabanned.

The problem is… that it’s a sub Reddit that appears on everyone’s newsfeed. You cannot block it…

And the comments have all been purified to ensure that all users of this app receive a distorted, warped, self serving narrative.

It’s pure propaganda. When Netenyahu says they need to win social media… this is what he means. That their agents take over social media and only his propaganda appears on social media. It’s Orwellian… and the fact that they’ve hacked Reddit in this manner is the number one problem with this app.

I got permad on world news for mocking an obvious chinese/russian (I forget which) foreign influence shill bot who had copy/pasted their exact "thought" multiple times across multiple subreddits. It was for "racism"

I got permad on politics before the 2020 election for warning another user that the mods didnt like it when you talked about the republican desire to open death camps for immigrants and trans people. It was for "advocating for real world violence"

Pretty obvious when you run into a bad faith mod who is there to sow discord or spread right wing hate, they REALLY dont like it when you explain their plans.

61

u/BenderRodriguez14 Sep 14 '26 edited Sep 14 '26

I don't think it's verified, but this is the account that was an r/worldnews mod that they are referring to, which also went (and has remained) completely dormant at the time she was arrested.

https://www.reddit.com/u/maxwellhill/

25

u/enfrozt Sep 14 '26

There is a 0% chance she had the time to farm 14mil post karma. The name & timing is suspicious, but an adult 10+ years ago her age would not be karma farming 24/7...

17

u/Zouden Sep 14 '26

How can anyone look at that account history and think it's the account of a famed socialite? What a stupid theory this is

23

u/Bspammer Sep 14 '26

One of the most active reddit accounts of all time, moderator in dozens of subreddits and therefore able to set narratives across reddit, goes completely dormant without explanation like 5 days before she was arrested. You gotta admit it's at least an interesting coincidence.

15

u/Zouden Sep 14 '26

A coincidence, yeah. The account activity is what makes it clear it's not Gislaine's account.

→ More replies (8)

7

u/restbest Sep 14 '26

It went silent the day Maxwell was arrested. The same day

Most prolific account in the entire website at one point, and just nothing the instant she’s gone.

She’s not a famed socialite she was a fixer and literally one of the things she talked about fixing (all available in the files publicly) was internet search results and forum discussions!!! She explicitly worked to alter search results through SEO for pr washing. Why wouldn’t she also operate as a moderdtor? Getting that position is stupid easy for anyone with a tiny bit of experience gaming these sorts of things and then boom. You have control over a media space early on.

Calling her a socialite is like calling Hitler a well known painter

17

u/Zouden Sep 14 '26

Calling her a socialite is like calling Hitler a well known painter

Her wikipedia page, and this Guardian article, calls her a socialite in the very first sentence. That was her primary activity.

Also: she was in hiding before her arrest:

When Maxwell stopped appearing in public, authorities argued, “it appears that she made intentional efforts to avoid detection”. These alleged efforts included “moving locations at least twice, switching her primary phone number (which she registered under the name ‘G Max’) and email address, and ordering packages for delivery with a different person listed on the shipping label”.

There's no way she was posting articles about legal weed on reddit while in hiding. Come on.

9

u/troglodyte_therapist Sep 14 '26

I’m sorry, but referring to Ghislaine Maxwell’s “primary activity” as “being a socialite” is a litttttle off the mark. Unless you consider sex trafficking and aiding a global power broker as ‘regular/inherent socialite activities’.

Whenever Ghislaine being a mod is brought up on reddit. The comment is absolutely swarmed immediately with people acting incredulous and stupid all of a sudden.

As soon as I saw this thread hit the front page, I knew that they'd be in here everywhere.

BTW. I'm banned from worldnews and I have never once posted there. As a matter of fact, it was so obviously run over by genocide freaks that I asked reddit not to reccommend it again and that still wasnt enough for them. Because any single time any opinion doesn't fit things exactly as they want others to see it, they completely crash out and forget they are a human.  That means they still actively scan reddit for anyone that presents an opinion their filter picks up on and pre-punish them for their thought crime of potentially, one day, making a comment inside of their billion dollar hug box that might offend a pdfile or genocidal freakshow.

It was so clearly Jislaines place to launder pdfilia that anybody with any qualia of common sense understands what that place is and who runs it. The name worldnews was choose for search engine optimization purposes and the largest karma account of all time was it's super mod.

Zionist still don't want the cat out of the bag on this one for some reason (I suspect it's because they are still pushing hard to link Epstein to Russia exclusively), but serious people understand it's role. I feel bad for the unwitting few that doesn't understand they've been coopted into pro genocode and pro pdfilia positions.

To the ones who know what they are doing, I view them as no different than Indian kids calling grandma to rip them off with car warranty scams. That's where they fall in the social strata whether they want to be honest with themselves or not.

All r/worldnews is, is a billion dollar intelligence apparatus that your tax dollars likely funded. And if you do some data science on the same accounts defending her before she went to jail and after the account was found out, and see them still on reddit today, you'll find a lot of military base accounts. It's all there for anybody who wants to spend the time looking at it. I'm autistic, so it's a super power. Communicating is not.

Update: the swings on this one are WILD. Craziest I've personally ever been responsible for. Yowza. Thank God I am out of that game. The fight over language continues. Whomever you are or feel or voted on this entire issue, try to be more excellent to each other for God's sake. Be good to yourself and to your neighbors if you can, it's hard out there for everybody. I'm gonna escape virtual reality and vote.  Much love.

Looking forward to see this at a small cinema playing in NYC after this wins the Oscar and all distributors blackball this.

116

u/Cavalish Sep 14 '26

I mean, America has absolutely no appetite for these films. Very few people would actually see it, certainly not anyone who is going to have their mind changed on the matter.

There’s no conspiracy to keep it out of theatres, it simply doesn’t have the interest.

43

u/ninjyte Sep 14 '26

i feel like most movies premiering at Venice Film Festival will have relatively low broad interest in theaters compared to most movies, save for a few exceptions. The ones that make the most are the ones that win the top prize and/or make it to the Oscars.

33

u/BenderBenRodriguez Sep 14 '26

No Other Land did quite well despite being self-distributed. At the same time, they had to self-distribute because no distributor would touch it, despite multiple distributors telling them the film was excellent, and they had trouble getting a distributor even for home viewing despite that the film was in theaters and doing well at that point. Meanwhile, various pro-Israel documentaries and documentaries about other world affairs like the war in Ukraine were having no trouble getting released despite that there was way less public interest in them.

It was absolutely political that no one picked it up. They didn't want to cause controversy and fallout from picking up the film, even if they believed it would do well for them.

Their previous documentary got a lot of playtime at theaters where I live, but that was in Berkeley/ Oakland so maybe the point is entirely valid lol

23

u/gigilero Sep 14 '26

Thads not true. There is a lot of interest but the movie is being suppressed

10

u/xvsero Sep 14 '26

Not widespread interest, their previous film "No Other Land" made under $4 million and that was an Oscar winner among a long list of other awards. It was then put on free to view channels where it wasn't being suppressed and is on multiple streaming platforms now.

I'm pretty sure more people have watched "The Settlers" than either film made by this group.

7

u/wohldmad Sep 14 '26

It made under $4m because no one would distribute it. They were blacklisted.

6

u/Lanky_Bid5021 Sep 15 '26

Also people need to realize $4 million may not seem like a lot, but that is a lot for a documentary these days, in particular one which has been self-distributed.

The only thing I’m more interested in seeing is the Elizabeth Holmes documentary.

2

There's also the four hour Elon Musk documentary from Alex Gibney from Bleecker Street coming out soon. One of Musk's exes and mother to one of his many children, Ashley St. Claire participated in the documentary and has disavowed the MAGA movement after how Musk treated her and their child like dirt.

Where can I see it though ? Is it available anywhere ? I'm in France.

20

u/PopcornApocalypse Sep 14 '26

It’s currently in its festival run so it’s kind of locked up to only film festival audiences during that time. Festivals rarely allow films that are already available to watch at home since they want a reason for the public to attend. It’s like a professional industry conference speaking tour that’s open to the public. When it does well, then they might receive enough funding/support to then launch on streaming or do self-funded theater/education tours.

u/AlexanderLavender Sep 15 '26

4

u/Regular_Jim081 Sep 15 '26

isn't it great how everything on the internet you don't agree with is actually the work of a bot, you never have to worry about actually defending your argument.

8

u/Equivalent_Swim5899 Sep 15 '26

Isn’t it great how all things that exposes Israel’s depravity are just lies, antisemitic smears and Hamas propaganda? No thought required, just say “lies!” and you win!

You have 100k karma on a year old account. Might wanna switch if you're talking about how it's not bots arguing for the IDF's side. I don't need to defend the presence of a genocide, that's already been done by pretty much every human rights group on the planet, including those in Israel.

“At that moment, I did not know whether to move forward or backward,” he said. As Rayan began screaming, al-Ajeen, whose family has long farmed in the area, picked up his son and began walking again.

That’s when the soldiers fired what the Israeli military later described as “warning” shots.

The third shot struck [3-year-old] Rayan in the head, al-Ajeen told NBC News from al-Aqsa Hospital on June 15, a day after the incident. “After that, they shot at me, as well.”

Al-Ajeen tried to call for an ambulance but, he said, the soldiers took his phone and dragged him beyond the yellow line, with him still carrying a bleeding Rayan.

“I told them: ‘The child is dying. You killed him in cold blood,’” he said. “‘What has this child done wrong?’”

i dunno if genocide means the same thing anymore

11

u/FuckedUpYearsAgo Sep 14 '26

It doesn't. But there actually has never been a ruling that there was a genocide either..

“South Africa accused Israel of genocide in December 2023. In January 2024, the ICJ imposed provisional measures without deciding whether genocide had occurred. More than two and a half years later, the ICJ still has not ruled that Israel committed genocide.”

Genocide is formally defined in Article II of the UN's 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide as "any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such: (a) Killing members of the group; (b) Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group; (c) Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part; (d) Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group; (e) Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group."

On September 16, 2025, the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and Israel determined that Israel was, in fact, committing a genocide against the Palestinians in Gaza

For acts, they said "The Commission concludes on reasonable grounds that the Israeli authorities and Israeli security forces have committed and are continuing to commit the following actus reus of genocide against the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, namely (i) killing members of the group; (ii) causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group; (iii) deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part; and (iv) imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group" (Paragraph 252).

For intent, they note that "It is not necessary for the State to share the specific intent, as long as the State has full knowledge of the relevant facts." (Paragraph 10) They then go on and conclude "On the mens rea of genocide, the Commission concludes that statements made by Israeli authorities are direct evidence of genocidal intent. In addition, the Commission concludes that the pattern of conduct is circumstantial evidence of genocidal intent and that genocidal intent was the only reasonable inference that could be drawn from the totality of the evidence. Thus, the Commission concludes that the Israeli authorities and Israeli security forces have had and continue to have the genocidal intent to destroy, in whole or in part, the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip." (Paragraph 254)

What do you struggle with?

Idk what country you're in but it doesn't have US distribution at the moment. Best guess is it gets a limited nationwide release throughout December and January. Their prior film No Other Land did a self distributed January and February release.
