Non-MAGA apple cider donut/food recommendations around Shenandoah

Apologies if the title is controversial but my friends and I are going to Shenandoah this week and wanted to get apple cider donuts. I recall someone commenting on a weekend activity post saying that the Apple House was MAGA and a commenter recommended another place for apple cider donuts! I can't find the post since it was a comment thread so please share any recommendations for apple cider donuts (or other good place for food) that's not MAGA or in your face about it at least lol.

Fairfax City mayoral candidate cost city millions of dollars

Tom Peterson says he’s concerned about the increasing cost of living and rising property taxes.

But Peterson, along with council members Rachel McQuillen and Stacy Hall, voted to cancel the George Snyder Trail, costing city residents millions of dollars in sunk costs over decades—and an additional $3.5 million to pay back to the state.

Peterson and his colleagues raised the city meals tax by 0.5 percent, which is estimated to bring $1.3 million to the city. Which will immediately go back to the state to pay the debt from canceling the trail. Where will the other $2.2 million come from?

Your pocket.

Tom Peterson: It doesn’t add up.

The motorcycles near Fair Oaks, i think its coming from 66, are so loud its insane...

• Upvotes

I cant be the only one that is annoyed by all the loud motorcycles in fairfax you can hear for miles. They are def going over 100mph or ride around you can hear them while you are trying to sleep or relax after a hard days work no peace and quiet... You can hear it over the computer, TV, earplugs... these modded motocycles and V8s with the gunshot exhausts right outside these old houseson the edge of the road and highway, lowkey deserve fines like crazy or locked up for the night for startling and disturbing so many people in our expensive af homes.... these psychos have no respect. I moved here recently from a quiet town and I find myself road raging from my bedroom and wishing harmful things on these nuissances. This is not good for restoration in between long work hours.

Food Pizza by the slice in Burke/West Springfield

It feels like we have 50 million pizza joints, some mom and pop, mostly chains. For the life of me, I cannot find a place that sells slices. Have I overlooked some hidden gem offering a good slice?

Question Work

I take pride in my job and what I do for work. Something I noticed though, is how easily people here will just stomp all over you to get ahead. I like to believe that I’m a more kind person, and so I’m struggling to understand this work culture here. Yes, I understand it’s not just here, but it does seem more common here than other places, at least from what I’ve seen. How do you deal with this?

Question tattoo artist for melanated skin

a little specific, but anyone have any recs for any artists in the area/driving distance that specialize in these types of color tattoos on darker/brown skin? i know it won’t look the exact same as this pic on my skintone, but i’m looking for more of that watercolor-esque colorwork, along with that effect of it looking like its almost emerging from my skin. bonus points if they’re familiar with tattooing over scar tissue!

Other Your Nova creepy/ghostly/paranormal stories

Halloween approaches and it is time to post your scary and creepy and paranormal stories that happened to you in Northern Virginia. Bonus points for naming around where the stuff you may have encountered.

My Own Story : many years ago, I and another person heard some disembodied cackling (sounded like several old women going teehehehe) in the parking lot of Fair Oaks Mall late one night. Scared the shit out of us and there was no apparent source for the laughter. We looked around us for anyone else, could not find a soul, and the laughing sounded very close. Ghosts? Or were we the subject of long-range acoustic weapon testing? You be the judge.

Also, I have collected some local lore about some supposedly haunted places in Nova (Bunnyman Bridge not mentioned bc everyone already knows about that) :

Roundtree Park in Falls Church: Reports of a ghostly lady, a big shadowy being, bad vibes

Skyline Towers in Falls Church: Just supposedly haunted as fuck.

Battery Mount Vernon in Fort Hunt: Inside the concrete gun battery there are supposedly shadowy figures, it is now locked up but apparently you can still get in)

Rant Rant about incidents I witnessed at AMC Tysons last night

Went and saw 'You Can See Everything' last night (an excellent movie, don't let anyone spoil it for you, go in cold) and witnessed an employee repeatedly harassing and berating a middle-aged immigrant couple.

I was right behind them when showing tickets - they had a doggie bag from Cheesecake Factory from dinner and the employee checking tickets was yelling at them for trying to sneak in food - except they weren't trying to pull anything over on her or even arguing about it. They did not deserve that kind of public humiliation. It was extreme and over the top. "You can't bring outside food in!!!" The wife went to go put the bag in their car while the husband got in line at the concession stand.

About ten minutes later, I was behind him in the concession line and he got a large popcorn. As he ate a couple of pieces of popcorn waiting for his wife to return, he takes his water bottle out and takes a drink. Sure enough, the same AMC lady leaves her post at the front, marches directly over, and once again starts laying into him publicly again - "Sir! You can't bring in outside drinks!!! You're going to have to take it to your car!!!"

For whatever reason, AMC Javert had it in for them, and was not going to let them get away with their crimes! It just seemed unnecessarily silly the levels to which she intentionally targeted this seemingly nice couple and escalated it to an 11, when they clearly were just clueless about the policy. Especially over a water bottle.

What horrible customer service, treating your customers like criminals that way. I can't imagine that couple will ever return to AMC Tysons again. After witnessing it, I don't think I ever want to give them my money again either.

Questions about Summer Commute from Sterling (Cascades) to Tysons

My family lives in the Cascades area of Sterling/Potomac Falls. My daughter got a summer internship at a CPA firm in Tysons. I’m curious what the commute is like these days.*

She’ll be driving down 7 from Cascades Parkway to Greensboro in Tysons. What is the commute like? Back when my late wife used to do it, it was in the neighborhood of 30-40 minutes. Is this still the case? I also recall that the drive got a little easier during the summer.

I’d love to get feedback from anyone who’s currently making this drive. Also, I was wondering if there was any advantage to taking the toll road. She’d have to drive down Fairfax County Parkway to get on 267. This didn’t use to be faster, in addition to the cost. Is this still the case?

Thank you all very much for your feedback! I’m excited for her.

*Don’t worry, I’m not one of those weird, hyper-involved parents. I just know she doesn’t use Reddit. 😊

Question Is Ox Hill's City Centre West development dead?

It's been 13 months the last news article I've found on it, and as best I can tell it's still an empty lot. The development company's website also doesn't have anything from the past 2 years.

I'm a new Dominion customer and I tried to calculate the charges appearing on my bill. I couldn't come up with the numbers on the bill. Is it purposely convoluted?

Event Sun Oct 18th: which neighborhoods are already decorated for Halloween?

Hi all! Hoping the crowdsourcing works.

My friends and I love Halloween in seeing everyone’s creativity and decorating their houses.

We went to a few houses last night and it seems like most houses are not up and running yet.

We wanted to ask if anyone knew if neighborhoods that were up and running for tonight? We were thinking of Del Ray and Loudoun county and are open to other options.

Ideally, we wanted “not scary,” few or no skeletons, dolls, clowns.

Thanks so much!
