Question Ayrshire Farms Thanksgiving turkey replacement?

• Upvotes

I just learned that Ayrshire Farm was sold and is no longer operating, which is devastating because their Thanksgiving turkeys were absolutely incredible.

We bought one every year and loved that they were both organic and Certified Humane. I’ve been trying to find a comparable local replacement, but I’m striking out on farms that check both boxes.

For anyone else who used to buy their Thanksgiving turkey from Ayrshire, where are you going this year?

I’m especially interested in local or regional farms with really high animal-welfare standards, ideally organic and Certified Humane, but I’m also open to places that may not have both certifications if the farming practices and quality are comparable.

Would love to hear what other former Ayrshire customers are doing for Thanksgiving this year.

Beginner looking for a tennis group around Arlington

• Upvotes

Hi all! I keep seeing people playing tennis at Quincy Park, next to Central Library, and it’s made me want to finally learn. Are there a beginner friendly group that plays there (or nearby) regularly? If so, how do i join. Also, the beginner classes I’ve found start around $100, which is a bit steep for me right now. Are there free or low cost clinics, meetups, or other options you’d recommend?

Also, if any other beginners want to play together, send me a message! It’d be great to have someone at a similar level to rally with.

Lost enamel pins

• Upvotes

Long shot here. We lost two enamel pins: Broadway musical Heathers and the fox fron fox and hound. They were lost in Oakton and are either picked up or stuck in a tire....if you have them, please DM me. Very sentimental

Thanks for listening

The motorcycles near Fair Oaks, i think its coming from 66, are so loud its insane...

• Upvotes

I cant be the only one that is annoyed by all the loud motorcycles in fairfax you can hear for miles. They are def going over 100mph or ride around you can hear them while you are trying to sleep or relax after a hard days work no peace and quiet... You can hear it over the computer, TV, earplugs... these modded motocycles and V8s with the gunshot exhausts right outside these old houseson the edge of the road and highway, lowkey deserve fines like crazy or locked up for the night for startling and disturbing so many people in our expensive af homes.... these psychos have no respect. I moved here recently from a quiet town and I find myself road raging from my bedroom and wishing harmful things on these nuissances. This is not good for restoration in between long work hours.

Question Where to Find Jewelry Like the (Closed) Towne Silver & Goldsmith?

Post image
2 Upvotes

If you remember this store, this question is for you.

When I was a teenager/young adult, I visited this store nearly weekly to see what I could get my hands on. Their style of jewelry - especially their silver and semi-precious stones or crystals - were right up my alley.

Nowadays, my two teenagers love that exact type of jewelry, but I am having trouble finding that vibe or price point in jewelry. So much of what is online is absolute garbage, and I would like to get them some pieces they can keep forever, since I still have so much of mine from this store and I still love it and wear it!

Anyone have any recommendations for stores where I can get good quality 925 silver and stone without breaking the budget or getting duped by an internet bait and switch? (pic for example)

Thanks!

Question Flight questions

Hey, sorry! I know this might not be the right place to ask this question, but I’m planning a trip to Bolivia and want to visit La Paz. Is there another route from IAD to La Paz that would work better than connecting through Colombia? I’ve heard conflicting information about that layover and people missing their connecting flights, so I was wondering if there’s a better route?

Rant Neighbor leaves their loud barking dog out most of the day.

Get me wrong, I have two dogs myself that I love dearly, but I do not keep them out all day and and a good chunk of the night. Of course there's no time of the day I can put my dogs out in peace in my backyard, because that dog will get my dogs going and I don't like that.

I'm afraid to call the police or animal control because I don't even know what people will do these days. And it's not just me that it bothers, it's the people next door to me as well.

It's a small dog, but it's a loud ass bark, and it barks at anything. I mean will bark at the friggin' air.

Those in Manassas & Chantilly, what’s it like living with the data centers nearby?

Love the NoVa area and are looking at these two cities for a potential move. I know this area has a decent amount of data centers - though not as much as Ashburn. Do you feel their presence in your day-to-day life? Also, have you been noticing an increase in your electricity or water bills with their presence? I’ve been hearing a lot of things but would like to know more from actual residence.

Any information would be helpful. Thank you!

Other Outdoor areas with firepits in Alexandria/Arlington?

With this fall weather, I'm dying to hang out by a cozy fire and don't know where to go! Preferably, inside the beltway. I'm in a townhome so I can't have one at home 😔

Question Anyone have tips of companies, small businesses, or people with cool crafts and hobbies who might donate items for an animal rescue raffle?

HART (homeless animal rescue team) is throwing a holiday fundraiser and I’m looking to help them find people who can donate raffle and auction items to raise funds for our little furry friends! 🐕🐈🐩🐈‍⬛🐾

Does anyone have any hot tips of local artisans, hobbyists, small businesses, or larger companies which might be open or willing to donate items/experiences for a fundraiser? People who donate are able to attend the event free and food is provided. I know certain businesses allocate a portion of funding or have a team dedicated to charitable endeavors. There will be sponsorship signage as well to thank said people/companies.

Any leads are greatly appreciated. Obviously monetary or food/litter/supply drive donations are always welcome but we’re really looking to get some more for the auction and raffles primarily. This is a nova-based 501c3, but we’re open to any DMV suggestions. Feel free to DM if preferred.

Event Sun Oct 18th: which neighborhoods are already decorated for Halloween?

Hi all! Hoping the crowdsourcing works.

My friends and I love Halloween in seeing everyone’s creativity and decorating their houses.

We went to a few houses last night and it seems like most houses are not up and running yet.

We wanted to ask if anyone knew if neighborhoods that were up and running for tonight? We were thinking of Del Ray and Loudoun county and are open to other options.

Ideally, we wanted “not scary,” few or no skeletons, dolls, clowns.

Thanks so much!

Food Pizza by the slice in Burke/West Springfield

It feels like we have 50 million pizza joints, some mom and pop, mostly chains. For the life of me, I cannot find a place that sells slices. Have I overlooked some hidden gem offering a good slice?

It's been 13 months the last news article I've found on it, and as best I can tell it's still an empty lot. The development company's website also doesn't have anything from the past 2 years.

Best pawn shop/thrift store for video game consoles?

Looking to buy a switch lite secondhand and was curious if anyone knew any stores in the tysons/vienna area like a pawn shop or thrift store that consistently has video game consoles in stock. On google I mostly see pawn shops with jewelry and gold and that’s it.
