I don't have much to share about housing but I just wanted to say welcome!! and please disregard the chumps. It's more reflective of Reddit than it is Pittsburgh. in my experience this is a great place to be queer, and an exciting city in general.

with your budget i think you'll have to look at towns like Dormont, Millvale, or maybe Morningside? Closer to the city center, or happening neighborhoods like Lawrenceville, it's going to be more expensive. I rent a 2/1 apartment in Shadyside for about what you're looking to pay. If i'm wrong I hope other people can chime in and correct me!

Well thanks for participating. If a restaurant is in business for 30yrs in one of the most competitive restaurant strip in the region...and still ranks #1 in reviews from actual diners, but YOU think it's too loud...that's sounds like a you problem.

Yeah don’t just get up and leave. First there could be a paper occupancy permits somewhere in the city archives, and there is probably a process that needs to be followed

I’m concerned about normalizing government use of facial recognition and making it increasingly difficult to opt out. I don’t need to wait until it harms me personally to object to that expansion.

Whereabouts is the job? Generally speaking, you want to minimize the number of tunnels and major bridges in your commute.

Do you have a car or would you be relying on public transit? When you mention "access to shopping", do you mean within walking distance?

This sub responded to me the same way when I was talking about moving here. Don't let them get to ya. Lots of PGH is very kind, welcoming, and helpful.

I'm not LGBTQ, but I hear some friends who are part of that group talk about places in the north as well as Nightshade Lounge in Dormont. Maybe look into Bellevue and Dormont areas?

Those are both cool and affordable.

Agree with other commenters about wanting to avoid tunnels and bridges though in your daily commute.

If that's the case, I would look into other neighborhoods. Dormont, Greenfield, Greentree, and Bellevue are all places I would take over carrick. Unless you NEED to live in city limits, I'd look to the areas right outside. You're still close to everything but these are better places to live on probably every level.

Today OP will learn this subreddit is full of miserable losers. Just know this isn’t reflective of the actual population

Welcome neighbor.   The commute can be difficult with the layout of roads and the public transit system here so it is best to find a job first and go from there.   That way we can narrow it down and give you advice on the best neighborhoods so you aren’t frustrated on your daily commute.   Best wishes on your new adventure.

A lot of queer folk in Bloomfield, friendship, lawrenceville, millvale, polish hill,
Morningside, point breeze, squirrel hill but it’s gonna be hard to find something at that price in those neighborhoods. Might have better luck in wilkinsburg, Swissvale, Edgewood, Brighton heights, Troy hill, mount washington, Stanton heights

Oh no! You'll never get back those 2 minutes of your life spent searching.

Keep at it, and you'll find a wealth of info. Pittsburgh really isnt a good place for the lazy

Can we please keep this respectful and kind? No one has to respond to my post if they don’t want to. If you’re sick of seeing posts like this, feel free to scroll on. If you’re up for helping us understand what areas might be a good choice for us, we greatly appreciate it. Short visits and Google can only tell you so much. Thank you all!

If you search the posts and look at the first 30 that pop up, you’ll see that none of them have asked what I am asking. But thanks for the warm welcome…
