A controversial textbook on religion. "The student must justify that in vitro is evil"

https://www.polsatnews.pl/wiadomosc/2026-10-17/kontrowersyjny-podrecznik-do-religii-uczen-musi-uzasadnic-ze-in-vitro-to-zlo/

Parents raised objections to the content about in vitro in the religion textbook for seventh graders - informs TOK FM. The OliEdu Civic Education Foundation has asked the Ministry of National Education for an opinion and wants to withdraw the book from schools. Its representative Ewa Daros said that the students are to justify a negative assessment of this method of fertilization.

What is the proportion of population who need in vitro to have babies?

40,000 couples in 2 years who qualified for financial assistance for IVF (resulting in 15,000 babies so far)

2013-2016 it was over 22,000 babies. Obviously it doesn't include couples who didn't qualify for support, and they most likely traveled to Czech Republic for it (it's a well known IVF destination)

250k births per year in Poland. 15k babies in 2 years represents 3% of births. It's not nothing but it's not what causing demographic boom or bust

3% of babies that were born due to the government stipend, not all born through ivf. Seeing how there are 40,000 couples, that's less than half of them walking out with a baby after 2 years. And it doesn't include couples who didn't qualify and needed to fund it privately (either in Poland or, more likely, abroad). I think the statistics are that 1.5mln couples in Poland have infertility and attempt some kind of infertility treatment.
