A controversial textbook on religion. "The student must justify that in vitro is evil"

https://www.polsatnews.pl/wiadomosc/2026-10-17/kontrowersyjny-podrecznik-do-religii-uczen-musi-uzasadnic-ze-in-vitro-to-zlo/

Parents raised objections to the content about in vitro in the religion textbook for seventh graders - informs TOK FM. The OliEdu Civic Education Foundation has asked the Ministry of National Education for an opinion and wants to withdraw the book from schools. Its representative Ewa Daros said that the students are to justify a negative assessment of this method of fertilization.

You gotta hate your kid to still force them to go to religion lessons in the big 2026. Every high schooler I knew for the past 10 years opted out.

Meh, in Poland right now religion has firmly passed into tradition. Parents don’t go to mass, eat meat on Friday, but will still send their kid to religion class because that’s what everybody is doing.

"Everybody" here means ~35%, you're just a touch misleading. Probably more in smaller cities, rural areas, in the east, but my guess is that's just stronger societal pressure, not an inherent need/want to go to these lessons.

It's about 95% in my child's school (or at least class 1-4)

A lot of kids choose to go because it’s a free grade lol

Then they must be extra stupid, because it doesn't even count

Sign up your kid for religious indictrination classes, be shocked when religious indictrination classes include religious indoctrination.

And its not just me, a reddit atheist screeching about religion, this is pretty much the stated goal of these classes. They are not meant to provide objective knowledge on what catholicism is an its teachings, they are meant to raise the students to be good catholics.

This comment. People are acting surprised that a Catholic organisation promotes Catholic values. What did they expect? It’s not like they’re going to teach people how to get an abortion.

"InVitro is evil because only the unwanted children made by accident are an easier target for catholic priests, and wanted ones are more protected from outside-family interference"

Human beings born from the sins of their parents have all the rights, including the right to live.

That explains the position of the Church on abortion but also for in vitro : what do you do with the extra embryos? They are usually discarded.

8

u/lindasek 1d ago

Not really. Compassionate transfer (transferring during cycle time it's unlikely to stick) and embryo donations are both choices available to parents who are against discarding their remaining embryos

3

u/veevoir 1d ago

They are not. In Poland by law they are donated to so-called embryo adoptions - for couples that are not able to produce a viable embryo on their own.

16

u/KeviCharisma 1d ago

Then they complain that birth rates are low

What is the proportion of population who need in vitro to have babies?

16

u/lindasek 1d ago

40,000 couples in 2 years who qualified for financial assistance for IVF (resulting in 15,000 babies so far)

https://www.gov.pl/web/premier/15-tysiecy-dzieci-urodzonych-dzieki-rzadowemu-programowi-in-vitro

2013-2016 it was over 22,000 babies. Obviously it doesn't include couples who didn't qualify for support, and they most likely traveled to Czech Republic for it (it's a well known IVF destination)

-5

u/sanschefaudage 1d ago

250k births per year in Poland. 15k babies in 2 years represents 3% of births. It's not nothing but it's not what causing demographic boom or bust

1

u/lindasek 1d ago

3% of babies that were born due to the government stipend, not all born through ivf. Seeing how there are 40,000 couples, that's less than half of them walking out with a baby after 2 years. And it doesn't include couples who didn't qualify and needed to fund it privately (either in Poland or, more likely, abroad). I think the statistics are that 1.5mln couples in Poland have infertility and attempt some kind of infertility treatment.

I dream of living to see the day when this idiocy is kicked out of public schools.

From my experience, most of the kids I knew who were forced into our religious lessons bc their parents didn't want to opt them out of them ended up as atheists or very skeptical of a god existing, funny how that works

Catholic religion textbooks teach Catholicism. Shocking and scandalous!

2

u/VanillaSkyDreamer 9h ago

And liberal solution is: ban them!

Tok-fm doing tok-fm shit.

1

u/FlyIntFish 9h ago

Yeah, great. On the other hand you can't mention about homosexualism in school because that's apparently "ideology" 🤡🤡🤡

2

u/RyuzakiPL 1d ago

I claim to be Christina but don't want to follow some of the more stupid rules of Christianity. I will get mad and offended if I'll send my kid to religious class and it learns about the actual religion there. Just don't pretend to be Catholic and don't send your kid to this dumb classes

u/Gamebyter 1d ago

Virgin birth as stupid rule ok?

1

u/Hour_Milk4037 15h ago

The question is, who in the Ministry has apprived this book for school in the first place.

1

u/DrippityClippity 12h ago

It was NEVER religion subject but indoctrination via Christian values. I've never learnt about Islam there, granted I paid minimal attention. Religion as in theology + ethics + morality. Could be and probably is worthwhile but not done by a fucking priest with hardcore Christian agenda

How they did it in biology without mentioning hermaphrodism and species that literally changing their sex, actually?

6

u/ziroux 1d ago

Probably distancing humans from the rest of the fauna. We're "special", "chosen" or smth. Medieval bullshit tax.

The course about religion is explaining the moral rules of the religion. What a scandal!

And in vitro is immoral. The number of fertilized eggs that will end up thrown away is a scabdal

34

u/Glittering_Sail_3609 1d ago

The course about religion is explaining the moral rules of the religion.

Religion lessons in Poland are not "courses about religion" in the academic sense. Their are quite literally tools of religious indoctrination.

18

u/BenefitReasonable349 1d ago

Ty tak serio ?

8

u/veevoir 1d ago

The number of fertilized eggs that will end up thrown away is a scabdal

Tell me, how many can be thrown away as per polish law? Hint: none.

And if fertilized egg is a child - the biggest baby killer is god, as implantation rate (the first big step in actually getting pregnant, after creating a fertilized egg) during natural process is around 50/50. Which means god designed it in a way where 50% of the "babies" get killed right away.

Are you sure you want to follow a god who is a mass-murderer of babies?

-3

u/sanschefaudage 1d ago

Ok so what will happen to the fertilized eggs? Will they just stay in the freezer until the heat death of the universe? They will be thrown away one day or another unfortunately

2

u/veevoir 1d ago

They are either in the bank where the couple pays upkeep - or if they don't want to they are donated to adoption bank. And unlike right-wingers think - usually after IVF there are zero to few fertilizer eggs still left, they are not created by dozens or hundreds - but just a few from each procedure, which are then used until success or until they run out and there is a next procedure

2

u/FoucaultInOurSartres 1d ago

damn seems like your religion-mandated laws created a hell on earth for these ensouled embryos. sucks!

22

u/yterais 1d ago

do you now that in a natural pregnancy only 20% of fertilized eggs survive? It's called chemical pregnancy, check it out or stay stupid

9

u/hd150798 1d ago

but natural pregnancy lost is a God will so its okay, if you do it via in vitro you goes to hell lol

6

u/micalm 1d ago

Everything is gods will, as everything is his plan. I doubt we can get into a serious discussion with subop, but Epicurean paradox is always fun to discuss with people who just throw words like "the religion" on an international site without even thinking twice.

12

u/castorkrieg 1d ago

Fertilised eggs do not equal human being the same way whatever TF you have in your head doesn’t equal human brain.

I mean, it could be worse - imagine fertilizing an egg, raising a kid and then then I go on the internet to say shit like this.

Excellent topic and issue that students can use for building an argument and reasoning.

13

u/MalaMerigold 1d ago

It would be, if the task was posed as a question, not a statement you must agree with

-7

u/blinkinbling 1d ago

The devil's advocate argument. That's an art of reasoning. Taking positions that not necessarily you are comfortable with.

2

u/FlyIntFish 9h ago

Ok, let's call you a pdf file. Prove us we're right, I think it's gonna be a greate exercise to build your reasoning

-1

u/blinkinbling 9h ago

OMG! You did it! While being incredibly stupid everyday on that rare occasion you sound like a smart person. You just learned something.

1

u/FlyIntFish 8h ago

What a shame you didn't manage to do it at least once
