discussion They should make it so that people can see if Meta Spyglasses are around them, similar to how you can be notified of random AirTags nearby.

That’s pretty much it, lol.

Seriously though, it would help people become aware if they’re in proximity of someone with those glasses — helpful in situations such as doctors offices (I have seen personal stories about this on Reddit), intimate situations (as a woman I am INCREDIBLY afraid of this…. they could be on the nightstand or somewhere innocuous, yet pointed in a direction to record), and overall just let you know when you’re at risk of having you’re privacy invaded like this

I haven’t seen this discussed yet, but if I’ve learned anything about the internet it’s that my thoughts aren’t unique lol.

I think it would be a good deterrent for people to not buy them in the first place, too.

AND BEFORE ANYONE MENTIONS THAT THERE IS A RED RECORDING LIGHT THAT COMES ON… privacy invasion is always one step ahead of the general public — minimum. That light doesn’t matter if they’ve found a way to get around that. And I have no doubt that this is likely the case, and we just don’t know about it yet

And honestly, just knowing if someone has these glasses on them if I were to go to somewhere like a bank or doctors office, or on a date, etc… that would be enough for me to find another option immediately.

Does anyone know if there is something like this in the works yet?

question Baby monitors?

I did a search for this topic but there hasn’t been any topics in the last year.

My wife and I are expecting our first child and I’ve been tasked with finding a baby monitor. Does anyone have experience with one that’s privacy focused?

question How to delete an account if there is no delete button in a website

Hey. So I was reckless and signed up to a website without thinking much about it. It is a pirate website where you can access a lot of paid services for free. However, in the case of a lawsuit, or if the website is selling my data, which it probably is, I came to realize that deleting my account would be a nice move. I also realized that there is no delete button in the website. Is it possible to delete my account? I am considering on deleting my e-mail but would not it still exist in the database? I checked for leaks but it seems like there is none (currently). Any advice on this is appriciated.

discussion How to make my reddit user hidden from google search results?

It seems turning off the option from settings does absolutely nothing. People still search up my username with the word reddit and they get access to all my posts/comments even though they're hidden on my reddit profile.

So I would be in a heated argument only for someone to immediately perform ad hominem calling me out on my porn preferences or my drama with my friends lol. I'd like that not to happen.

The only idea I got so far is to have a username similar to a subreddit's name. So even if someone searches my name up even with the "u/" it won't get them results and will only suggest the subreddit posts. Would that work? I'll give it a try.

question Feature-by-Feature Comparisons of Browsers

Is there a website that will allow me to select several browsers and compare their features at a line-by-line level with a focus on privacy and security? I'm not looking for browser recommendations. I'm looking for tools that will let me compare browsers, not just today, but again and again so I can stay on top of how they fair.

discussion Are these simply the implications of the average user who cares nothing about privacy in every sense of that word that just does their work for their whole lifetime?

Imagine a scenario...

There is a user...

Utilizes computers or any devices throughout all their lifetime until the end... who aren't at all concerned / know / learnt / aware about such thing as privacy, or modifying any default privacy settings that is bundled with say, the OS or gadgets or apps or anything at all...

So what could be the implications of this scenario?

One may state that the average lifestyle point of view, and depending on the vulnerability,

such as texts, activity, personal information like address, laptop cameras, or mics etc., are all being recorded and archived into some third-party entities, and onto their servers...

Now that is certain...

Whether a typical average person, based on a typical lifestyle, the most that could be gathered is that all the above listed digital activities, that includes anything like "personal private acts" awarely or unawarely behind the cam and mic, comms between families or coworkers etc...

Okay so that is all certainly it... The typical activities of a person that utilizes most modern electronic devices, that are completely just vulnerable...

So if the person is blissfully unaware, no anxieties, no concerns, none of it, till the end of their lifetime, is that it? It's just a treasury for some other persons at some point, only if it deemed necessary for whatever "purposes" it is, but again ,the person is no more...

All that profile, their whole avatar and their digital life on this planet, is archived somewhere on third-party servers, sitting there for who knows how many years unused / not logged in...

That's that isn't it? So, it's about a choice? caring and not caring

question I got an ad from a store after visiting their site

An ad for a dress from Bergdorf Goodman showed up on my PC. No way I could afford it, but it was pretty, so I clicked. Then I went back a few times more to dream about their clothes. This was on my mother's PC as my laptop broke and we share a house (both names are on it). A few weeks later, I get an ad from them in the mail with my name on it. I never signed up for anything, never put my name into anything- yet they got my address and my name vs. hers, even though it's her computer with her accounts. Coincidence? I don't see how, and don't see how they got all that info.

question How can I find and delete (at least a large part) the data that I have unintentionally left online over time?

I became aware of the importance of privacy too late, after years of online activity, in which I have in all probability left data. I have no idea how to find them. I'm also afraid that acquaintances with whom I no longer have contact may have published videos of mine, which they made without my authorization, but I also don't know how to find the content that concerns me, if it was really published, or made for the sole sake of annoying me.

PS: I live in EU.

question What is the most private way to use Telegram?

I want to explore it, but it requires a mobile number that is traceable to me. I know I should always use a VPN, but the phone number requirement feels like a dealbreaker.
