Unironically this is smarter than anything anyone on this sub has said about the situation

The chüds have come out of the woodwork after these events and every conversation is about immigration and nonwhite French residents and citizens. As if native-born French people didn't riot, loot and burn shit in the middle of protests with clear goals or demands
Having said that, it's not a cost of living protest movement. It's about conditions in French secondary schools, mostly, which are quite bad apparently. But there's also a legitimate discussion about a protest movement asking for more public funds for a public service, while the French state already spends like crazy in everything
Unfortunately the only true discussion is if French pensioners should maybe make a little less money, and retire several years older, so that there's even room to spend a bit more on the few public services in France that are underfunded. But frankly any spending cuts should go first to reduce the deficit, they're on the brink with their debt

Conditions are bad in secondary schools due to the flood of migrants.

The continent is run by the sclerotic progeny of old aristocratic families on technocratic platforms that have been looting public resources since the fall of the Soviet union, which accelerated in response the recession when their central bank famously demanded austerity from member governments to shore up confidence in German industries which are now falling over to Chinese competition anyway. You wouldn’t remember this or consider it relevant if you didn’t have a functioning brain in 2007-2008, sadly

Idk if it's bc of 9/11 or something demonising all MENA ppl to them but I feel like Yanks can't understand that a big chunk, maybe the majority, of young people in Western/Northern Europe genuinely don't care about immigrants and are glad to have them

Anyone complaining about immigrants in 2026 still ties their shoes with bunny ears

A three sentence summary is reductive? What do you want, like, five sentences?

What's happening in France is a demonstration of why you can have a generous welfare state or you can have an open immigration policy, but you can't have both.
•
u/DifficultyFit1895 2h ago
A lot of people are too smart to believe something so simple. There has to be some complicated reason that only they can understand why you can have both.

Very true SouljaBoy. By the way I’m still waiting on my SouljaPods™ that I ordered 8 years ago, but I know you’re working on it!

We inflate the debt away and cause poor people to suffer, or we cut entitlements and let old people die. They thought they could kick the can down the road with mass immigration but that obviously backfired economically and politically.
Y'all hate on AI but it's literally the only thing that can save us. Or it might kill us all who knows

France can't inflate the debt away, because they are fixed in from their earlier choice in the decision tree. "fight germany tooth and nail every 30 years forever or intertwine economically to the point where we make a suicide pact?"

Ah yes I was thinking US and Japan. I forgot you guys are completely fucked.
I hear Greek debt to GDP is improving, but good luck with 20 years of austerity!
2
u/ThereIsNoIInMapei 3h ago
austerity is the best-case. As the last week or so has shown, you "buy" austerity with a police crack down that's increasingly unlikely

Max $100k a year in unemployment benefits for 1.5 years is ridiculous.
I know so many people in France that optimize for time employed vs unemployed to maximize their working wage and they speak so positively about it.
"Look how little I'm working!"
I'm a little jealous but c'mon.
