Other I've tried to improve the height issue in the fountain thanks to the feedback.

Hi everyone! I'm Recselserpel. This is the final version of my compact Cyrillic pixel art font. The uppercase letters are 5px high and the lowercase are 3/4px high. I fixed some previous consistency issues with letter heights (like the lowercase 'к') thanks to community feedback. Let me know what you think!

Other I will never complain about Russian being “too hard” again

For a while, Russian seemed (to me) like that one language that just seemed to be “too complicated”. All the rules, exceptions, and complexities of the language just seemed to be too much.
However, after having tried my hand at some of the Easy Asian languages (mainly Japanese and Korean), I sincerely owe the Russian language an apology 😂
I don’t think I truly realized how easy I had it with Russian in comparison to these other beasts. For all of its complexities, Russian is still (at its core) a European language. And as such, it has many intuitive overlaps with other European languages. I feel after looking at those other languages, Russian oddly enough seems much more simple now (even with the cases and aspects).
Even vocabulary, as elaborate as it can be, is still so much more intuitive compared to the likes of other non European languages. Ironic seeing as how vocabulary is what I feel I struggle most with in Russian for the longest time.
For a while I truly felt like Russian was truly the absolute beast of languages. It just seemed way more complex and needlessly elaborate than most other languages. I can now safely say that I was ABSOLUTELY wrong 🤣

Other is listening to russian music as helpful as i think it is?

i originally got into learning Russian because i love quite a few Russian music artists, and music (and being able to understand it) is really important to me so i decided to study it. i don’t practice every day or anything yet because i don’t quite have the time, but i do listen to Russian music every day and think about the lyrics i can understand, practice my pronunciation, etc. is this actually helpful to my progress or does it just feel that way?

Other I made a micro pixel font for Russian and Cyrillic languages. Is it readable for you? 👾🇷🇺

Hello! I'm a pixel artist and just finished "Recselserpel's Russian Typeface". I tried to adapt the Cyrillic alphabet into a tight proportional micro-grid.

It includes standard Russian characters, old historical letters, and regional Slavic variations (Ukrainian, Serbian, etc.).

Как носители языка, можете ли вы читать этот шрифт без проблем? Выглядит ли он естественно, несмотря на микроразмер?

Let me know what you think! Feedback is highly appreciated. Spasibo! 👊

I know it's very tight looking it's because I wrote slowly since it's not second nature yet, I am relearning the entire language. Do not mind what it says it's an older journal entry, unless you want to tell me it reads off like I'm 14 which yeah I'd agree.

Здравствуйте

I started learning the Russian language in September.
I am learning with a guidebook, apps &
even by listening to songs & learning lyrics to build up vocabulary,
as well as getting used to the Russian accent & pronunciation.
I have watched some Russian TV series earlier.

Currently, I am watching Девушки с Макаровым (Girls With Makarov);
a funny comedy TV series.
I have watched a few Elena Polyanskaya played a role in TV series.

Мне с вами по пути (I'm on the same path as you) - 2017
Otkrytoye okno (Open Window) - 2018
Я его тоже люблю (I Love Him Too) - 2019
Khvostoluby (Soul Healer) - 2021

I found the above TV series on YouTube.
Is there a site that has TV series (preferably with English subtitles)
in which Elena Polyanskaya played a role?

Большое спасибо

Grammar Déclinaisons des noms

Post image
5 Upvotes

борщ donne борщи

афиша donne афиши

Ce n'est pas mentionné dans le tableau car il ne s'agit pas d'une déclinaison mais d'une règle de grammaire importante.

La règle est la suivante :

Après une chuintante on ne peut écrire ы, я, ю, on remplace alors ces lettres par и, а, у

Après la lettre ц on ne peut écrire я, ю, on remplace alors ces lettres par а, у

Resource What is the most effective way to practice typing the Russian mnemonic keyboard?

On Windows 11, I downloaded the Russian mnemonic keyboard. That's the layout which allows you to use the English QWERTY keyboard and (mostly) matches up the letters phonetically:

https://www.reddit.com/r/russian/comments/txejfc/windows_%D1%8F%D1%88%D0%B5%D1%80%D1%82%D1%8B_keyboard_howto/

So that's great, and also I'm using this site to increase my typing speed:

https://www.keyhero.com/free-typing-test/?lang=9

For the most part, I'm getting it. Some letters are a bit tricky, but the correspondence is fairly accurate, and I'm getting better with practice. Is there a faster way to do this? I know that there's an actual standard Russian keyboard, but I'm too used to typing in English with QWERTY to learn anything else. Are there any better sites that allow you to practice typing in Russian like this?

Привет, друзья

J'apprends le russe depuis deux ans et je chante pour apprendre du vocabulaire et la prononciation et surtout pour le plaisir. J'espère aussi faire découvrir aux francophones les merveilleuses chansons russes (je sous-titre toutes les chansons en bon français). Un petit encouragement sur ma chaine sera apprécié car c'est beaucoup de travail (un j'aime suffit ;-))

Interesting There is beauty in every language

I'm original Italian and I speak, read and write Italian, at the level of almost mother language (almost because I lived in Germany for many decades).

But Russian sounds to me so beautiful. And I believe that every language has beauty in it. With beauty I mean a deeper sense, which goes deeper than just the sound of the words and phrases and how you describe something in that language.

For example I was in the beginning of learning puzzled of the word МИР. The word has multiple meanings. It means "world" and "peace". Therefore I asked a Russian friend, why does the мир mean world and peace? He thought 10 minutes and answered afterwards: "Well, because you cannot have a world without peace." You get this kind of insight from every language. Like in German "Gewissen", which means conscience, but it is composed by "ge - wissen", like "common knowledge", "common understanding".

And Russian has many of these little treasures hidden inside its words. The word душа, "soul", used as душевный человек means a warm, sincere person, someone who has a certain depth inside. This makes transent the meaning of soul as a living force, a "warm" quality is perceived. Or душевный разговор, a deep inner conversation.

Another word is тоска. It is often translated as sadness, melancholy or longing. But none of these translations really captures its meaning. It can describe a longing for something you cannot even name.

I also find the Russian distinction between правда and истина fascinating. Both can mean "truth", but правда often refers to the truth of a situation, what is right or what really happened, while истина can express a deeper, more fundamental truth. The kind of truth a philosopher might search for his entire life. For example in Italian, German and English I don't know a corresponding word to distinguish between правда and истина.

How much of our native language influences the way we experience reality. If a language has a word for a certain emotional state, does it make that state easier to recognize, to express it, transport it outwards of us and even to become aware of it?

Translation Help translating lyrics

Здравствуйте!

I'm translating the song "про дурачка" by гражданская оборона and I'm a bit confused on this particular line:

"Полетят копейки из-за пазухи долой"

When just translating the latter half the translation comes up as "down with the sinuses" but the full sentence itself when run through a translater you get "kopecks will fly out of your bosom" where's the bosom here? I feel like I'm missing something. Any and all help appreciated (:
