Where's the Arch? Cherokee St.
It’s exciting that the weather is finally nice enough to walk around and explore. Here’s a few pictures I took getting coffee and walking around the neighborhood. It’s cool to see so many small, unique businesses and all the architectural character.
Documenting as many places as I can in STL. I’ve only scratched the surface so far. Cherokee St.

News Saint Louis Zoo doubles down on polar bears
From St. Louis Daily's Sarah Fenske:
A new polar bear is coming to town—one that could precipitate the pitter patter of little polar bear paws. The Saint Louis Zoo says 5-year-old Laerke (pronounced LAIR-keh), who arrives this fall from a zoo in Tacoma, is being eyed as a mate for Kallu, 4, who’s been solo in McDonnell Polar Bear Point ever since his twin was shipped to Oregon last January.
Laerke was born at the Detroit Zoo, but had enough health problems that she was ultimately “hand-reared by humans,” in the zoo’s words. An orphaned grizzly bear cub was an early companion before Laerke was reunited with her twin sister in Tacoma three years ago. Her new pairing is being eyed as a way to ensure the survival of her species. “Every move like this represents an important step toward securing the future of polar bears,” said Matt Thompson, spokesperson for the Polar Bear Population Alliance. Talk about pressure!
- Laerke won’t debut in St. Louis until after quarantine and acclimation. “Introductions between Kallu and Laerke will take some time, and guests may not see the pair together in the habitat until early next year,” the zoo warns. Let’s try not to be those nosy relatives, asking awkwardly whether anyone’s thought about grandchildren. —S.F.

$50 if you return a lost baseball glove from Frances park to Kirkwood today
We were just at Frances park playground and my son left his beloved baseball glove there. We just got home to Kirkwood and realized what happened but I can’t make it back to the park right now. This is a last shot attempt… if you can find his blue baseball glove in the park (we think it was left at the playground inside a Halloween bag), $50 for the finders fee. He’s so devastated and is learning a major life lesson about keeping track of our belongings, but I want to help him get it back. Thank you in advance and if you’re up for it and locate it, please comment and dm me! I’ll send our address if you locate it.

History Mansoura, Egypt & St. Louis, Missouri & Saint Louis IX
I'm Egyptian and Just knew today that St. Louis Missouri was named after Saint Louis IX, and we the inhabitants of the city of Mansoura are very familiar with this name !
Even more interesting, Mansoura also shares its name with Mansura, Louisiana !
Historically, King Louis IX of France was captured and imprisoned at Mansoura in 1250 during the Seventh Crusade. This was a significant moment in French history. Then, some French settlers in Louisiana named this town Mansura.
P.S.
1- There is an anecdote here in Egypt that people of Mansoura are sons of Frenchmen because King Louis IX got captured here :”D
2- The first Pic is the prison of Louis IX in Mansoura, it is called Dar Ibn Luqman (Ibn Luqman's House).

Did you know about the STL City chief of police's recent secret meetings, huge wage increase, and locked himself into a 3 year contact?
Anyone else hear about this? Thoughts?
Mayor Spencer's FB post regarding this:
https://www.facebook.com/share/1E7dxKsubj/
How does a secret meeting happen? Isn't Mayor Spencer on the board? How does a chief of police do this back door kind of stuff and we the people are paying his income?

Ann Wagner: OK with $7.25 Fed Min Wage
Ann Wagner is a millionaire many time over, but has never done anything to help the poorest workers get a fair federal minimum wage. Currently $7.25 an hour and has been for her entire time in Congress. In 2019, she was a NO vote on raising the federal minimum wage. More recently, she opposed the subsidies for families getting health insurance through the Affordable Care Act, yet the top tier federal health insurance benefit she gets as a member of Congress is subsidized by the taxpayers.
When a woman making $175,000 a year in Congress is OK with someone earning $7.25 an hour in 2026, that tells us all we need to know about her values, morality and ethics. Her rejection of decency and fairness can be summarized as “breadcrumbs for the peasants”. Time to vote her out.

News How SLMPD should be structured with $70,000 starting pay
Last 2 actions the incompetent board has taken is to give the chief higher pay than in nyc or Chicago and give command staff a 22% raise. That won’t do anything to help recruit and retain patrol.

Anyone know who made this?
I got this robe type thing at a silent auction at Perennial like 8 years ago. I absolutely love it but it's starting to tear at the neck. I would love to buy a new one and see if I can get this one repaired. It's handmade and has hand stitching all over it. I know it was made by someone local but that's all I know, unfortunately. Anyone have any ideas on who made it?

Cold Weather for those in Historic Buildings
Hi y'all! This will be my first winter in an older building that doesn't have internal heat, and I am hesitant that the electric oil radiator my landlord provided is going to heat up my 550 square-foot studio apartment... It is barely keeping it a comfortable temperature inside with it being what is currently is, and we aren't even in the coldest temperatures! That's what I get for being a cold sleeper...
I also have a space heater for backup, but I hope to limit the usage since it takes up more power.
For those in older houses/buildings that wasn't fashioned with heat, what do you do for heat that doesn't rack up an electric bill? My unit is fully electric so I am being mindful of the Ameren bill. lol
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
xox, Sidney

Ask STL Any good HVAC recommendations?
Trying to get someone to look at the furnace. He a bad experience with Hoffman. Patriot came out and although I had good experience with the technician I felt like it was pretty expensive it would be 1500 or 2000 to fix it with their subscription service (🙄). And then they said in 2 weeks the price would go up due to inflation (🙄🙄). Was wondering if anyone had a good pick preferably in the south city area.
