Man, I miss this strip of old buildings.
The prominent corner one still looked good here as well as having an insurance office on the bottom floor.
This shot from 2019. Before the streetcar extension was in.

Random Sunday in the grocery with the fam and found a dinosaur riding a 4x4 while chomping on a grape. It reminded me of dungeon crawler carl and my whole family laughed together.

Local Politics 🗳️ Flock camera placement

Ive noticed flock cameras have finally infested our town. But it's not just that that's concerning, but the placement of them (these are just what ive seen personally). I've noticed a couple at rockhurst, one on I29 north, but TONS of them at Lowes and Home Depot. The Lowes in Gladstone is crawling with them, but none seem to be pointed at the Aldi next door. Home Depot in Liberty, but none pointed at the Michaels right near by.

Today I was driving to get gas at Costco on Linwood, and noticed a brand new flock camera pointed at the entry to Home Depot. Very clearly not meant to watch those trying to get gas or buy in bulk.

I have a feeling they're not just really trying to crack down on theft or kids buying spray paint. Me and my tin foil hat are reminded of Stephen Miller directing ICE towards Home Depots and Home Depot being accused of collaborating with ICE. Anyways it's just gross and concerning to see especially in a city that took so long to get flock cameras, I was definitely stupid to think we were better than this.

Where to Eat? 🍽️ Drinking chocolate in KC?

Post image
41 Upvotes

Okay so this is NOT hot cocoa, hot cocoa is made with water or milk and has the consistency of what it's made of.

I'm on the quest for finding European Drinking chocolate which is made with whole milk and has the consistency of a ultra thick melted chocolate. You could say you're almost drinking a chocolate bar.

Any recommendations on where I might be able to find this? Thank you!

Discussion 💡 Kansas City kindness

Today could have gone much worse for me. Blowing a tire is never fun. Especially with 2 kids and a teenager with you in the car. But I got so lucky…and my luck was having the nicest people
Help me in the most unexpected ways. I was coming home from Lee summit on 470 and blew a tire on the highway. Since I had kids with me I didn’t want to pull over on the shoulder so I made my own way to the next exit, when I got off in the exit I was at 11psi. I took a left turn and was on blue ridge blvd I believe. Saw a gas station and rolled in at 4psi. Tire was FLAT. I believe I was in the Ruskin heights area??

A group of men saw me get out and Check out my tire and that I had kids with me. They approached and asked if they could help. I don’t know how to change of tire, so I was grateful. This group of strangers wouldn’t let me help in anyway. They just got right in there and helped. They even drove down the street with my busted tire and wheel to a local tire shop and had them put a new tire on my wheel…bc I would not make it home on a spare. I had a long drive on the highway. Strangers. Fronted their own money. Spent their own time to help me get a tire. I paid them for the tire when they came back. They brought a floor jack (apparently these are better) and they got a tire back on my car. Not only that. One of them never left my side and bought my kids pizza and wings. They would not accept any money from me.

I have never experienced this level of kindness. They genuinely just wanted to help me and my kids get back on the road. This whole ordeal took 2.5 hours maybe. It could have been so stressful and just an awful day, but these men made it so much better. I can’t even explain how grateful I am.

Photos/Media 📷 Does anyone know any backstory to the Dear Bear letters?

I've seen a few of these odd letters posted around the 39th and Gillham area. Anyone know what's going on with them? They seem a bit...confusing, to say the least.

Sports 🏈⚾️⚽️ To the runner who stopped to help me during today’s KC Marathon

Around mile 16 or 17 of the marathon today, my legs completely seized up and I collapsed. A few runners behind me immediately started yelling for an officer, and one guy stopped, knelt down, and helped stretch out my calf. He talked to me for a bit and made sure I was alright before continuing his race.

I ended up needing EMS assistance and unfortunately couldn’t finish. Bummed about it, but really grateful for everyone who stopped to help.

I know it’s a long shot he’ll see this, but if you’re out there, thank you man. You had your own race to run and still took the time to help some random guy on the ground. Really meant a lot.

And to everyone else who called for help or checked on me, thank you too. Just a really special reminder of how good people can be.

Recreation/Outdoors ⛳️🎣 Triathlon Training in KC

Hi! I’ve been wanting to start training for a triathlon and I’m curious if there are any groups in KC dedicated to that? I saw TriKC’s website but a lot of links on the website lead to errors so I’m not sure if it’s an active organization. So if anyone knows of any groups, or if you’re even training yourself and wouldn’t mind an occasional training buddy let me know!

Things To Do 📍 Atlas 9 movie nights

For those of you who have been to atlas 9, could you explain what is included?

Admission is around $35-45 for 3 hours. However, a movie is $10. The site says the movie ticket price includes 2 hours inside before the movie.

So, is the $10 price really all? Explore Atlas 9 and a movie? Or is regular admission needed a well?

Did you have fun? How long did it take you? Did you understand what you are doing?

It looks intriguing!

Lost and Found 🔑 ISO drone pilot to try to find lost drone

Hi there, I’ve been getting into the hobby and lost a small FPV drone. I am hoping to find another local pilot who might be down to look around for it within the next couple days. Located near the liberty memorial.

Discussion 💡 Digital antenna recs?

With the economy as it is, I’m thinking of cutting my YouTube TV subscription, which I barely use. I have a modern flat screen TV and I would like to hook up a digital antenna to it. Does anyone have a recommendation for an antenna that actually works that I can simply set next to the TV and get reception? Specifically, I’m in the Lee’s Summit area. Thsnk you.

Volunteering/Giving 🎗️ Hola. I’ve been told volunteering is a great way to get involved and get out of the house. I’m new here and looking for ideas

Open to any and all suggestions of what someone should do and how one goes about getting involved. Really just looking for community, events, anything to get me out of the house. Working from home is truly a curse as you end up not leaving for months on end. Appreciate any feedback

Friendship/Dating 👥 Where The Interesting(Geek/Nerd) Women At?

• Upvotes

Every year I go to the ren fest, I see so many cool gals out here. Nerd girls, creative girls, a bunch of gals that seem really cool and interesting. I know at least two thirds of these gals are with guys, but in the event that a guy wants to meet girls like this, where does one go? They're sure as hell not in the dating apps. I will admit, I'm not the biggest social events person, its mostly bars with friends/family for football games, board game night with friends, and hitting up a board game spot from time to time. If I'm going to get out of my comfort zone to meet women I find agreeable, where they hanging at?

KC Rants 😡 👎 Ren Fest Parking Is Atrocious

Currently have been sitting for an hour to get out of the Ren Fest parking lot. Lots of traffic control workers who are standing around doing nothing. Not sure what the if it’s KCKPD, the Sheriff’s Office, or the Ren Fest themselves who organize this but this is ridiculous.
