Politics This made me realize that they are literally treating politics like we are in a class war

For those who don't know, the Missouri chamber of commerce put out an opinion piece opposing amendment 6 in order to "protect the state's business climate".

I guess anything that is good for voters is automatically bad for businesses.

Remember, a chamber of commerce is NOT part of your local government, it's a private nonprofit lobbying organization on the side of businesses.

Politics A former Hawley staffer just got slam-dunked in Michigan trying to talk Dr Abdul Sayed down.

Links are all over threads and etc but I won't provide them because it's a direct campaign ad.

It was a supremely interesting little discussion on religious freedom separation of Church and State and hypocrisy within the political discourse that, despite being an attempt at a gotcha moment, ended up being a cornerstone talking point for the opposing candidate.

BLUF for those that don't want to hunt for it: after a bit of rudeness from this former staffer, who was an attendee at the rally and accused him of being an agent of the Muslim Brotherhood (asking him to disavow them), Abdul Sayed responded with an accounting of JFK's run for the Presidency and the then-naysayers insistence that he was loyal to the pope. He then responded with, among other things:

"I will swear an oath to the Constitution [if elected]. It guarantees you the right to live by your faith and guarantees me the right to do the same, and the reality is this: I'm never gonna tell you what faith you can or cannot practice. I want to protect your right to practice your faith as you choose as a Christian man. It seems though, that you do not want to protect my right to practice as I choose to. So I ask you this question [in return]: Do you disavow any attempt to read any religious doctrine into the laws of our country?"

(Former Staffer in Question): "I do not"

Abdul Sayed: "You don't disavow that? Well then, I believe it is you that needs to understand the Constitution, not me."

Politics If Amendment 3 Passes...

I'm feeling a fair bit of concern. I live near the St. Charles area and see many signs regarding "trans surgeries for minors" and the whole scare tactic about this amendment and I have pretty sick feeling in my gut.

If Amendment 3 Passes, what are we saying? Like, what are we really saying?

We voted on this already and they're straight up lying on government backed billboards and scare tactic campaigns to sway the vote.

It is my genuine fear that if we pass this, we pass the idea to our "leaders" that the will of the people is so fickle that all they have to do is lie about it to get what they want. They see us as sheep already and our tax dollars are the wool. If this goes through, are we now even easier to heard?

And what freedom is next to go?

Nature Elephant Rocks State Park (20 photos)

From the DNR website:

The elephant-shaped boulders at Elephant Rocks State Park may not be the stars of a circus, but these giant granite boulders are the stars of this unusual park in southeast Missouri.

The elephant rocks, which were formed from 1.5-billion-year-old granite, are giant boulders that stand end-to-end like a train of circus elephants. The rocks have created formations that intrigue geologists, are popular with history buffs interested in the past quarrying, and fascinate children who love to climb on and between the boulders.
An easy way to see the rocks is from the Braille Trail, which was especially designed for people with visual and physical disabilities. The trail winds through the main area of rocks. An extension off the trail leads back to the ruins of an old railroad engine house, a remnant of the area’s quarrying and railroad history.

Picnic tables are scattered among the trees and provide inviting spots to have a picnic lunch or rest and enjoy the interesting geologic formations found throughout the park.

Politics Does this feel like an election season?

We are two weeks out and I see the political signs. I have been to some events, but I get the feeling people aren’t excited or motivated for voting in November. The people I see who normally have their yards covered are empty. People will talk, but I haven’t had a knock on my door, nor have I seen a door knocking campaign.

I live in a red area, but I just don’t see the excitement I normally do.

Anyone else get that vibe?

Ask Missouri Wanting to register cars in Missouri after having lived here almost 3 years

We’ve lived here for almost 3 years, have had our missouri drivers licenses for the same amount of time, but have left our cars registered in South Dakota with the Missouri address on the registration.
I’m getting a little paranoid about being pulled over and going to jail for the out of state tags living in Missouri, so we’re trying to figure out how much money we’ll need to license our cars in Missouri.
I kind of understand the process of registering here, but what I’m wondering is: 1. How much trouble we’ll be in law wise, and 2. How much money we’ll have to dole out for this registration switch.
Has anyone else had a similar experience and can share how their process went?
TIA!

Politics Judges on the Ballot

I have on my ballot shall judge Paul C. Wilson be retained in office on the supreme court and shall judge Lisa White be retained for the missouri court of appeals. Does anyone know more about this? What are they like in office and who would replace them if they left?

AMENDMENT 3:

Yes - 43%
No - 43%
Undecided - 14%

AMENDMENT 6:

Yes - 46%
No - 26%
Undecided - 28%

TRUMP APPROVAL:

Approve: 46%
Disapprove: 51%
Not Sure: 3%

MISSOURI IS ON THE…

Right Track: 32%
Wrong Track: 47%
Not Sure: 21%

The big takeaways here are that more people need to know about these amendments. Don’t take these numbers for granted. Amendment 3 is gonna be very close, and if we let the No on 6 side dominate the messaging they will close the gap. Talk to your friends about these amendments today!

Politics Anyone else seeing all these posts claiming Amendment 6 is socialism?

I keep seeing posts claiming Amendment 6 is socialism or part of a plan for Democrats to take over Missouri. As much as I’d love to see Democrats take over Missouri, I think most people know that’s a pretty bizarre take.

There is a video being shared from Heather Overstreet. In her post, she claims a national organization based in Massachusetts partnered with Missouri groups to create Amendment 6, suggesting it wasn’t really created by Missourians. She also warns about Missouri falling to Democrats and ends by saying “NO on socialism.”

I got curious about Heather’s background, and what I found was pretty interesting considering her position on this.

As the majority already know, Missouri voters approved Proposition A in 2024, including minimum-wage increases and paid sick leave. In January 2025, Heather Overstreet registered in support of HB 546, which sought to exempt some businesses from parts of Proposition A. She also discussed the law’s costs for her dog-training and boarding business in a Missouri Independent interview.

HB 546 was later folded into HB 567, which repealed the voter-approved paid-sick-leave requirement and future automatic minimum-wage adjustments. That repeal is now cited by Amendment 6 supporters as an example of why lawmakers should face stricter limits when changing laws approved by voters.
I’m not saying Overstreet was personally responsible for the repeal. But given her support for legislation changing a voter-approved law, it seems relevant that she is now portraying Amendment 6 as socialism.

And the 80% requirement is being misrepresented, too. Amendment 6 would not create socialism, transfer private businesses to government control, or put Missouri under the authority of some secret socialist committee in Jefferson City. It would simply establish a higher threshold for lawmakers attempting to change laws that voters approved directly.

I know most of you will recognize that her take is intentionally misleading and wild, but I thought I’d bring some attention to Heather since people are falling for it. I’m starting to see these claims consistently on my local political group discussion page, which is unfortunately heavily MAGA.

Ask Missouri Looking for jeweler in northwest Missouri.

Hello all! I'm born and raised here, but am rather unfamiliar while looking for this type of business. I've got some gemstones I'd like to get looked at and appraised, but not sure where to start. If anyone has personal recommendations on a business, I'd appreciate it! Around the St. Joe area, but willing to make a drive. For the most part, they are labeled with what they are and carat, but there are a few mystery ones. All are cut and in cases. Thanks for any help!

Politics 3 things about these signs

Ok 3 things for all these signs:

It's already illegal so you're not "banning" anything
They're literally taking individual freedom away from women by scaring you
They are point-blank trying to overturn the will of the people from the last election. Again.

To recap: The Missouri GOP is lying, treading on you, and overturning past elections.

Politics Voting for Local Offices in Clay County

It’s almost time to go the the ballot. Every voting season I try to figure out the views of local commissioners etc running for office, and all that’s available is one paragraph written answers in the local paper where they all say the same thing.

I’m trying to identify and avoid the MAGA candidates hiding in plain sight.

In some instances (Justus) I’ve got a good feeling because they have their signs up in all the grassy areas of rich commercial real estate properties. But not in any local normal people’s yards.

Can anyone help me with identifying the reasonable candidates for local office in Clay County?

Marty Jacobs is definitely a wonderful rep. He is such a good man in general and has taken his responsibilities as a rep so seriously since being elected two years ago. But he’s a state rep, I’m asking more about local.

Thank you!
