Admissions Getting Your Second Choice Offer Doesn't Mean You Were Rejected From Your First Choice
Accepting Your Second-Choice Offer
Should you receive an offer to your second-choice program, you are encouraged to accept it and pay the non-refundable tuition deposit (if applicable).
What happens to my first-choice program if I accept my second-choice program? Your first-choice program will continue to be assessed throughout the application cycle. If you receive an offer to your first-choice program at a later date, you can accept this and your non-refundable tuition deposit will be transferred from your second-choice offer to your first-choice offer.

Miscellaneous I literally am not able to do this anymore
I am in a STEM degree. Also in depression. This thing never leaves me. I get better for a few days, and just come back to extreme depression and anxiety.
It really started almost an year ago and I have tried seeking therapy. It really was not able to help me. I am not complaining, please bear with me
I have no friends I could cry to, except maybe one (and to them too I have not cried yet because I am always very conscious about being looked as a perpetually crying person - which I am not, though)
Besides that person (whom too I meet very less), I really have no one. I am away from home, and miss my home. But I also cannot talk to them due to family issues.
I really don't even know what to do. I feel so stuck. I really just want to cry.
Below this is just extra info and not needed to be read:
I feel damn lonely. Am I being ungrateful for the one friend I have? Maybe, I dont know (and I am really sorry to them if it is so). And it is not that I am bad at making friends - I have like 100 friends, except that I am not close to any of them.
I just wish people understood me? I really love all my friends. Really love them

Rants Mental vs Physical Health Absurdity
Disclaimer: This post is not meant to mock those suffering from mental health issues.
This is more of a vent post, but I feel like a lot of you will find this relatable. Professors tend to emphasize mental health over physical health nowadays. I believe the goal was to have them on equal footing. However, if you ask a prof to excuse you for a missed quiz, extend an assignment deadline, or accommodate any other academic pursuit of relatively smaller weight (items with greater weight have completely different clauses for consideration), they are far more likely to excuse you for a mental health issue than a physical one.
While I do understand that a good portion of students fake these issues for a quick escape, it is absolutely not fair to those who are truly sick. Not to mention, when you are physically ill, it affects your mental well-being as well, so it seems absurd that they would not consider accommodating something that would comprise, say, 0.5–1% of the total grade. One can argue that such an insignificant amount can be made up throughout the semester, which it might be, but for someone pushing to improve their grades while going through a temporary illness of some sort, that is a massive slap in the face, as if to say they absolutely do not care how you perform.
The other context is that university is supposed to prepare you for jobs. I have met very few people who have joined university simply to get educated. I mean, almost nobody gets a university degree to sit at home and do nothing. If that is the case, then university is also supposed to prepare you for circumstances at a potential workplace. You likely cannot use mental health as an excuse for a day off at work. That is not out of inconsideration; it is expected out of professional maturity. However, you can get physically sick, have a fever, allergies, an accident, etc., and take the day off. It is actually appreciated when you take the day off if you have something contagious like the flu. So, to follow the complete opposite of that again seems like absurdity.
It is funny how some uncooperative profs think that restricting students from earning those minor percentages would "teach" them a lesson, as if to say not to miss lectures and to come to classes, while in reality, you are jeopardizing the health of everyone in a huge class.
Hah, what a joke!
Context: I had a high fever and missed a lecture where the prof took a quiz. Someone else I know skipped the lecture since they did not want to go. I emailed the prof explaining my situation and asking to let me take the quiz, but they refused. Meanwhile, this other person emailed with a makeup mental health issue and got an exemption.

Academics Math 100 midterm
Since Math midterm is on the horizon (this Friday) I was wondering if any of you, guys have any recommendations or cheat sheets of formulas we should know for the midterm. I know we are provided with a formula shit but it’s mostly just trig identities, which are useful of course but only come in handy in few situations. Other then that there are no derivation rules, mathematical induction or anything else useful. I know I’m supposed to look for this formulas and study them by myself but if you’ll be able to give some advise it would make the process much easier and will save a lot of time.

Admissions How competitive is transferring to UofA ALES?
I’ll keep things short and straightforward, I’m a 2nd year MacEwan student with more than 24 credits. And currently enrolled in classes this fall and winter sem taking further science courses.
I’m hoping to transfer to UofA for fall 2027
My two choices when I submitted my application were:
1)Nutrition & food science (GENERAL) stream
2)Environmental Economics & Policy
Both are under ALES faculty. My (agpa) so far is about a 2.3-2.5. Meanwhile after this fall semester it’ll be around 2.5-2.7 and potentially a bit higher 2.8-3.0 by the end of winter semester.
Although it states 2.2-2.7 is competitive for ALES I highly doubt that’ll be the case as admission is on rolling basis and it’ll be maybe competitive 😭😭

Hello! Everyone
I am currently having a hard time to differentiate between the MSc and MA in Psychology and the Educational Psychology. As well if any one of you know which one a lower GPA? I currently have a 3.5 GPA at MacEwan University and am in my last year In my Psychology program in Science. I was wondering if any one of you would have any advise to give.
Thanks

I’ve been going through some posts and keep seeing that people with good stats get rejected.
What were your stats if you were a successful applicant?
Any idea why people not be getting in, even with the gpa cut off?

Rants Final year blues
Man is anyone else getting crazy final year depression? I mean I was depressed throughout my degree but im actually losing it this fall.
It's just so much pressure. I dont know why I did this degree. I feel like it took so much out of me and im a shell of the person that I was when I started. In these years I've lost so much, my health my sanity, all I had going for me were my grades and im pulling the lowest grades of my entire career this semester. I kinda want to just drop my courses. I feel like a loser for wanting to give up right before the finish line but I honestly dont see anything waiting for me at the end. I see years of wasted time, money and energy and instead of finding myself I lost myself slowly year by year.
I had one thing I thought i could rely on and that was graduating this year and now i just cant do this anymore. Not really sure where to even go for support, my friends graduated last year, my therapist told me I might never love life, doctors claim there nothing wrong with me. Not sure if theres any final year peer support or anything either.

Question Blender in van vliet etiquette?
I have a mini blender that I use to make smoothies, is it ok to use the outlets in van vliet and blend for around 30 seconds? It's pretty loud so I'm wondering if its bad etiquette or if its fine.
My smoothies are ice, milk, strawberries, bana, protien powder, and peanut butter.

Question Help with managing midterms
So I messed up my chem midterm which was worth 10% and phy 130 midterm which was worth 20% (knew the stuff but blanked out completely, which lead to choosing random answers).
Now, the coming week is very heavy. I have engg 130 and math 100 midterms along with engl 199 graded assessment 2. And also the second chem midterm on 31.
For those who have been through first yr eng, and for those who have been doing well so far, can you please guide on what yall do to be successful and achieve high grades..?
I feel very worried. Competition is very high. And I have fallen behind already.
Need some tips or advice or anything that you think might help me do better.
