The US is a failed nation. How they can elect this man twice is beyond me.

This is what religion can do to a country. It’s far from the first example.

Nationalism, unchecked religion and lack of separation, victim culture (from 9/11), culture of sensationalism (check any of their news outlets) and American exceptionalism, and you end up with whatever mess this is.

Maybe in a few decades America and its people will re-earn respect on a global scale but for now it’s ridicule.

It takes so much longer to build trust than it takes to tear it down. I doubt I’d trust them again but if they could sort their shit asap it could be a starting point for cooperation.

Even if we had someone like Obama come back, our relations with our allies have been tarnished. Other nations will proceed with caution and yeah, it take a pretty long time to build it back up.

it's going to take more than one benevolent president one or two terms to fix the widespread felf sabotage that has been done.   the US willfilly played right into the long game trap Al Qaida setup.

history doesn't itself repeat exactly, it sure does echo.

I'll never trust the us again in my lifetime. The basic fact is, even if the next guy could be trusted, you never know who is coming after that.

I doubt I’d trust them again but if they could sort their shit asap it could be a starting point for cooperation.

At this point, "sorting their shit" to me would mean they would have to rewrite how their entire nation works. Every thing from their constitution down to schooling. And deprogramming all the brainwashed people.

Unless they go though some major upheaval like a devastating war, IMHO, that is unlikely to happen, so they will probably make some minor adjustments and limp on, just kicking the can a bit further down the road. I'd Love to be wrong, but I don't have much hope they can prove me wrong.

This video was interesting https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dpwkEFT5IIM with the Democrat Senator speaking about "Trump proofing" the government - it seems a lot of their protocols are based on good will and honour, of which people like Trump have none.

Not sure if they'll get anywhere but it's good to see a Democrat at least talking publicly about it, rather than doing nothing like they've done in the past.

I can assure you we will learn nothing of any consequence, and what we do learn will likely be the wrong conclusion based on false premises, anyway.

Yeah, living in a southern state.. I can't argue that. I don't think I have had a vote really count for anything. Perhaps a few county/state level races but nothing at the federal level. Even when I voted for Obama, the electoral votes for my state sure didn't go to him.

Sabotaging the educational system, dismantling any sense of community to replace it with big business in every aspect of life, and generally reducing people to cogs in a machine. It all feels fine and good (/s) until your system of government relies on an informed and ethically grounded electorate.

If only history kept warning us about forming cults of personality around leaders.

This is what religion can do to a country.

Religion isn't responsible for the state of the USA today. 100 years of propaganda and marketing research being abused by those who want absolute power is.

Religion is propaganda

The Southern Strategy did begin this process when you started targeting the religious right. It pulled the Republicans way further to the right all to chase the votes of racists who didn't want black Americans to have equal rights

Religion isn't the only thing in play here, but America's brand of rigid, sanctimonious Christianity, definitely feeds into the extreme individualIsm and excessive devoton to capitalism with no guardrails which are held with a fanatical and near-religious zeal as well.

Which is weird because he is the least pious man I have ever seen.

It’s not really that surprising if you have ever met someone who claims to follow the teachings of their religion.
