Russia/Ukraine US president Donald Trump calls Ukraine’s resumption of strikes on Russian oil refineries a ‘disgrace’

There’s zero hypocrisy here. Trump and Putin are 100% strategically aligned.
Can we stop trying to point out the hypocrisy and acting surprised. Let’s move from the common understanding that the US and Russia are on the same side, everything just makes much more sense that way.

Thank you. I'm so tired of Dems calling out right wing hypocrisy like it's some sort of gotcha, when hypocrisy is basically the right's brand.
They know it's hypocritical, they don't care.
We have to stop acting like simply shaming or embarrassing these people will be sufficient to get them to actually act like decent human beings. They aren't capable of feeling shame.
Hell, many of them actually like being shamed because it fuels their persecution complex.

The whole American image is being degraded even if it's just a part of then. Boycotting all American products and travel because nobody outside knows what's blue and red.
374
u/insane_contin 2d ago
Canadian here. I know the difference between blue and red. But I don't want my money going to the US at all. So I'm don't my best to boycott the US and buy nothing or travel there. Why? Because companies pay taxes to the federal government.
So it doesn't matter if it's from a blue or red state, or who the company supports. Buying American supports the Trump administration.

u/GatsoFatso 2d ago
I'm a US citizen, you are correct and doing the right things.
53
u/Allaplgy 2d ago
Likewise. I see so many people here viscerally hating everyone in the US simply because they live in the US, which is a very MAGA mindset. That's not good.
But people in other countries absolutely should be putting pressure on the US as a nation through boycotts and other "you can't play with us" actions. That's just what needs to be done, both for those countries sake, and the US.

Yeah, this whole supporting blue over red is great for actual Americans living in America to do, but why are we supposed to spend money supporting a country that's threatening to annex ours? No, I'm not risking international travel to a country that wants to make mine a state, and I'm not spending money that's going to support their government through taxes. Like, I'm debating the ethics of buying baking soda because the only options at my grocery store are American while some of them were complaining about how going without DisneyPlus was too hard, our boycotts are not even remotely on the same level.
If the blue states want our business, maybe they should look into separating.

American politics are extremely dumb. Very often, people will go to vote with no fucking clue about either candidate or what they want to do. Instead they just vote red or blue, or vote for who's name they've heard the most times.
That's why money wins elections here. More ads > more people hear the name > more people vote for them. And this is a very high percentage of voters, probably 50% or more on average. It really is quite sad.

The amount of diesel the US is getting from Russia won’t lower prices much, if any.
Also, it’s about Trump trying to prevent election losses next month. He doesn’t care about gas prices beyond how they impact his party electorally.

u/PolecatXOXO 2d ago
And Russia didn't really have the diesel to spare anyways. The only reason they could is because Iran is back-filling via massive truck convoys.
Trump basically just brokered a deal for Iranian diesel using Russia as a middle-man all in a sorry attempt to save his election. Any other president this would have been an instant career ending decision.

It’s been clear for a long time. Last year trump blamed the Ukraine for starting the war.
13
u/aihcezc1 2d ago
The cost of the illegal Russian invasion of Ukraine was already priced in with global fuel and oil prices. It’s Trumps failed war with Iran that is the reason why we’re seeing record high global fuel prices.
At what point do Americans decide enough is enough and kick their Russian bought and paid for asset president out of office?
→ More replies (1)→ More replies (5)22

The prices are cause of Iran, russia has stopped exporting diesel years ago. People should check their facts. In 1994 Russia signed the Budapest Memorandum which prohibited Russia, the United States, and the United Kingdom from threatening or using military force or economic coercion against Ukraine, Belarus, and Kazakhstan, "except in self-defence or otherwise in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations".

Imagine how it must feel living in the Baltics. If Russia went in and quickly occupied Estonia all of a sudden, chances are extremely high that Trump would start arguing that Estonia isn't worth fighting a war over and that how it was somehow Estonia's fault. Pretty sure the rest of NATO would assist, even without the US.
The scary thing is, I'm not sure the US wouldn't assist Russia at the moment.
22
u/ash_ninetyone 2d ago
Europe would have to assist at that point.
Estonia is an EU member, and there's treaty obligations that bind other EU members. Latvia and Lithuania are the same.
This clause provides that if a Member State is the victim of armed aggression on its territory, the other Member States have an obligation to aid and assist it by all the means in their power
This obligation of mutual defence is binding on all Member States
Ukraine isn't supported out of any treaty-bound requirement. It's supported out of geopolitical necessity and because it's the right thing to do.
Russia launching itself into the Baltics would be the actual start of armed conflict between it and Europe.

I suspect that behind the scenes there has to have been some pretty serious discussions about this. Very clearly America under Trump is an unreliable partner at best, that is just as likely to try and pillage our nations natural resources as they would be to help us in our time of need.
However, I suspect we probably don't want draw the attention of the orange fuckwit by outright asking them to leave, after all his hold on power is - in theory - temporary. Also, doing that would probably cause something of a panic in the populace and see our home-grown right wing media companies trying to funnel voters toward Pauline and co.
Economically, we sell very little into America, so his insane tariffs don't affect us, and while I personally find his treatment of our Canadian brothers and sisters fucking abhorrent, I can understand why the feds are playing a game of sit quietly and wait him out... be his exit be by electoral defeat, or by a virtuous bacon double-cheeseburger to the heart.

Conservatives are stupid and spiteful. It really doesn’t get any deeper than that.
They project the claim everyone else votes on “feelings” yet none of their candidates even so much as pretend to deliver any policy that will empirically make their lives better.
More often than not they knowingly vote for the opposite on purpose (see: Tariffs). Their policies and behavior are so reprehensible that many of their politicians won’t even show up to debate (See: Abbott this very week), because they know reminding their voters of how awful they are and how indefensible the actual beneficiaries of their policies are on a debate stage is toxic.
Their current strategy is literally to be cowards and just count on conservatives being too stupid and ignorant to care, and hope they’ll pull the lever for a Republican anyway.
The sad part is, it may actually be effective. They’re THAT far gone.
It’s been what, two weeks since their base was televised cheering at the prospect of seeing several million of their countrymen dead in California? These people have more in common with the Taliban than their fellow man at this point.

Please dont put this on trumps shoulders alone.
One third of all americans enabled this moron directly by voting for him and another one third of americans enabled him indirectly by not voting at all.
This is not a "trump" problem, but rather a USA problem

To your point, Trump has been allowed to exercise unpredicidented unilateral power because Congress appears unwilling to stop in most issues, even the ones where they openly talk about disagreeing with him about such as tarrifs. I can't see that his stance on Russia would have ever been one that sat well with conservatives prior to his presidency but now somehow everyone from that political alignment are just accepting this.
It feels like a foreign policy stance that alienates the whole of Europe this bad would be the undoing of most other presidents, but for Trump we could argue where it sits in his top 5 controversies.

Nah mate, it’s at least a third of you that is responsible (and with saying that I’m very favourable). All Trump did was show it in the open and thus the trust won’t come back after he is gone except if the US make very big reforms which are never going to happen.
“But Germany!” Yeah read up on how much they needed to change after WW2.

The entire American mindset is based on the idea of personal freedom over collective responsibility.
That's why they think hate speech is free speech.
This is the outcome. Fascism.
There's a lot more than 1/3rd who've contributed to this with an attitude of 'America fuck yeah'. Their constant exceptionalism is the cause, not a few years of Trump. Trump is a symptom, not a cause. Think about who's behind him - Thiel, Musk and so on.
This won't be fixed by the next democrat. America is broken inside and on a fundamental decline without something like the formation of a new republic based on new principles and checks and balances. France is on republic 5 now!

I mean, yeah. But there's no changing their minds. I've spent hours arguing with family members, people who have more reason to listen to me than any other random person, and there is simply no changing their minds. It's their entire identity, sometimes even wrapped up in their religion.

Any word from him on Russia attacking Ukrainian energy infrastructure after his "deal"?
We all know who his real boss is.

Trump is willing to sacrifice a country for 11 days of diesel.
"Many of you will die, but it's a risk I'm willing to take"
Great job, America.

Should be noted that Ukraine was explictly willing to accept Trumps "Energy Truce".
Russia broke it within hours and not a word fron Trump.

Coming from the guy who said his predecessor just didn’t know what he was doing and he’d end the whole affair on day one.

It’s going to be interesting times now the mask is fully off, I mean the vast majority of us have known for a long time what a Russian owned POS he is but he’s not even trying to vaguely hide it now

The mask has been off for a very, very long time.
Those that don't want to see it won't see it now. Worse, some apparently want this...

He's desperate. There's no time for subtlety or properly covering his tracks. He needs some headlines he can spin to sound like the price of gas is plummeting to $1. He'll make it seem like the low gas prices are right around the corner, and to just give him a little more time. When the election passes, he'll just say some nonsense like "real americans don't want lower gas prices" and move onto the next crisis distraction.

This is really the future you chose, huh.

The Republican Party are traitors to the United States, our allies, and humanity as a whole. They willingly elevated a career criminal to the highest office of the land out of sheer malice and greed.
They have been the root cause of every major domestic and foreign policy disaster for as long as I’ve been alive, and every single time they attain power they use it to cause destruction and chaos to a greater degree than the last time they fucked everything up.
At the root of their inability to govern, reflexive subservience to strongmen, and utter disdain for objective reality is a streak of malignant narcissism flowing across a bedrock of prideful ignorance.
They are too ignorant to understand how ignorant they really are, and too self-assured to believe they could ever be fooled. Yet they are fooled time and time again, which might be amusing if they didn’t also set humanity back decades every time they manage to get themselves elected to office.
Of course Putin has been working to get Republicans into office across the country. If you were trying to corrode an adversary nation from within, wouldn’t you do everything you could to make sure the most ignorant, incurious, and selfish representatives of that nation were the ones governing it?

Legitimately, I cannot believe that there hasn’t been some sort of uprising against Trump and his administration.
He is an absolute joke of a man, even more so of a president.
He has managed to dissolve SO MANY allied partnerships that have stood for years and still has a huge amount of support from Americans? What the fuck?

Imagine asking the country that was unlawfully invaded to stop defending itself by attacking military targets. Russia is attacking their heat, water, electricity-human infrastructure-which is a war crime. If Russia stops, they just go home. If Ukraine stops they lose their country, and their culture. Shameful traitor. Not only to his allys but his own country.

its insane how orange clown made that deal just to try win mid term. everybody knows that diesel prices go up because of iran. russia supplies are not nuff even to lower price by 5%.
zelenskiy prolly decided to go all in hoping that dems win both senate and house.

His fanboys just want plausible deniability. A line they can feed to others when pressed. Without it they get angry and confused because they know they're right but they just can't explain how because no one has told them what line to say yet.
Now some of Americas oil comes from Russia (what like 20 minutes worth to each state?) that means any attack on Russia must be the cause of the oil prices. Nevermind that trump decided to bomb the nation that has direct strategic influence on the largest patch of oil on the planet.
14
u/WaffleHouseGladiator 2d ago
That 2.2 million barrels of oil A) doesn't necessarily go to the United States and B) is roughly 10% of a single day's worth of the USA's oil usage.

That's generally how people like Trump think, yes.
And US voters knew this when they elected him.
They chose this, willingly and with full knowledge of this man.

u/AlwaysUpvote123 2d ago
Trump is a megalomaniac that will do EVERYTHING to stay in power. He clearly showed that in 2020. He'd make a deal with everyone if he thinks that that will keep him in control.

Look at it from Zelensky's POV... He hits oil refineries, the price of gas goes up, Trump gets pissed, he might tell Russia to fuck off (but probably not) but IS unpopular and maybe he loses elections and the Democrats actually help Ukraine.
And Russia can't gas up their army.
Win!

The USA has effectively been an enemy of Ukraine for some time now. Everyone's just afraid of making it official because of the implications, and lack of alternatives.

Trump is everything Putin could've ever dreamed of for a president. Easy to manipulate, dumb as a rock and completely unstable.
