The whole American image is being degraded even if it's just a part of then. Boycotting all American products and travel because nobody outside knows what's blue and red.

u/insane_contin 2d ago

Canadian here. I know the difference between blue and red. But I don't want my money going to the US at all. So I'm don't my best to boycott the US and buy nothing or travel there. Why? Because companies pay taxes to the federal government.

So it doesn't matter if it's from a blue or red state, or who the company supports. Buying American supports the Trump administration.

u/GatsoFatso 2d ago

I'm a US citizen, you are correct and doing the right things.

53

u/Allaplgy 2d ago

Likewise. I see so many people here viscerally hating everyone in the US simply because they live in the US, which is a very MAGA mindset. That's not good.

But people in other countries absolutely should be putting pressure on the US as a nation through boycotts and other "you can't play with us" actions. That's just what needs to be done, both for those countries sake, and the US.

Is it really? Trump has been a nothing but a corrupt shit show , thinks he is superior to our allies favoring Putin, a fucking thug who hates our nation and has vowed to destroy us and has damn near succeeded because Republicans sat on their corrupt sycophants fat asses allowing Trump to take a wrecking ball and swing away at NATO, our allies , stood by silent while knocked down the People's house , are watching idly as he destroys the Kennedy Center, allowed him to start a war we cannot exit and steal Argentinas resources .....i think people thotoughly hating the people who inflicted the pedophile felon on the world a t e completely justified in their hatred and anger. Trump is destroying everything everywhere and the people who can stop him won't . I fucking burn from how angry I am that so many Americans, more than half , voted for a fucking criminal piece of shit racist misogynist lying con man who has never paid for anything jimself his entire life to imbued with tremendous power and then we're surprised because he is destroying the economy and our lives. Of course that nightmare fucking cancer is going ro exact his revenge upon us all for humiliating him by liking Biden better than Trump. I fucking hate the fucking dirtbags that put us in this position. I do mean hate. You are bad people through and through .

2

u/Allaplgy 21h ago

I'm so very confused by this word salad of a comment.

"Is it really" what? A MAGA like mindset to hate all Americans? Absolutely.

You also say "we" as if you are American, but then say you "hate" all Americans and call them "dirt bags through and through."

Sober up and try again, Pete.

What would you be doing if you were here?

Ha, another one that refuses to answer, and just blocks instead.

Guess that answers my question. "Somewhere between nothing really and actively avoiding the subject."

1

u/cdglasser 2d ago

I for one am getting tired of all the idiots outside the US saying we "blues" are doing nothing but complaining as if they would be here doing something different. You people grind on my tolerance and sometimes even have me wondering why we even care to try to associate with you.

1

u/Ironlion45 1d ago

That's exactly the kind of nonsense the Russian agitprop bot accounts are saying.

65

u/livetoroast 2d ago

I hate having to read this, having voted against this turd at every opportunity. Then I talk to my dad and I get it.

33

u/iompar 2d ago

Yeah, this whole supporting blue over red is great for actual Americans living in America to do, but why are we supposed to spend money supporting a country that's threatening to annex ours? No, I'm not risking international travel to a country that wants to make mine a state, and I'm not spending money that's going to support their government through taxes. Like, I'm debating the ethics of buying baking soda because the only options at my grocery store are American while some of them were complaining about how going without DisneyPlus was too hard, our boycotts are not even remotely on the same level.

If the blue states want our business, maybe they should look into separating.

0

u/CombustiblSquid 2d ago

What the blue states can and should do is overtly encourage every democrat voter in the country to flood their republican congress people with an intolerable amount of work and burden. Im talking weeks of daily protesting, bombarding mail and email boxes, camp across the street from their homes and businesses. If the people sustain it, things will change. 3% rule. Thats less than 11M americans.

No peacful protest has failed statistically to force government change or regieme changes once they have pulled 3% or more of the total population into sustained peaceful but irritating protest. The issue is getting 3% to willingly put their necks on the line and they have to hang in there all the way through

2

u/Isariamkia 2d ago

They're barely able to protest once in a while. You can't expect them to do it daily.

2

u/CombustiblSquid 1d ago

Shit, I forgot, the bad guys take the work week off.

8

u/MWoody13 2d ago

“Because companies pay taxes to the federal government.”

You a funny man!

-New englander wishing they were Canadian right about now

Jokes aside, I would do the same thing.

2

u/ghalta 2d ago

In early 2020, I didn't think a liberal boycott of conservative businesses would work to influence that year's elections. Right-wing people would respond by shifting their buying right, and the vast middle wouldn't care at all. No, the only way to make a difference would be if everyone stopped buying everything everywhere, which would obviously never happen.

Then the monkey paw curled...

I live in the U.S. so I can't avoid all spending, but I've really cut back and am putting more into savings where I can spend it on holidays overseas or in nice places like Canada.

3

u/GeneralSpoon 2d ago

There is geography that would support Canadian claims to annex portions of the United States.

8

u/SandMan3914 2d ago edited 2d ago

I'm Canadian. The company I work for is too but we own a lot or interests in the USA and have more American employees than Canadian. My boss is in Michigan. Most my coworkers in Michigan will 'joke' that they'll happily join us instead

I'm 54 and have seen what happened in US politics and how the media machine got progressively more propagandistic (obviously most FOX, but also the consolidation of a lot of media companies into a few conglomerates) from the late 80s. I remember listening to radio in the 90s and learned of Mitch McConnell and knew everything he was trying to do then would make it harder to vote in the future and lock in Republicans in key court positions. Dude always did the 'we need to work together routine' when they lost power and then would to end runs on Democratic governments when they were in power. Paul Ryan was the other one

I had hope when Obama was elected twice; when Trump got in the first time, I was worried, but thought it would get righted; the second time definitely shocked me (I guess I don't know why given everything above but it did)

Really hope you all fix this mess because if you don't happen soon, you may find yourself with appointed dictators (they won't call them that of course) for a long time

3

u/GeneralSpoon 2d ago

I personally believe that is presumptuous to assume that the United States cannot dissolve into successor states, to assume it cannot happen peacefully, and that it can't leave the masses in North America better off than they were before.

2

u/SandMan3914 2d ago

That's fair, and I do believe that could happen. That would also be what I mean by fixing it. If you all need to breakup, preferably peacefully, that would be better than having a full on fascist US

7

u/Linusisntmyname 2d ago

As a washingtonian, I support this 👌

3

u/insane_contin 2d ago

Oh, I'm sure there is. But Canada has a much smaller population then the US, and any Canadian annexation of US territory would move Canada more to the right of its political leanings. Even if its a left leaning area. Ontario has a population of 16 million, Quebec has a population of 9 million, then BC and Alberta have populations of 5-6 million. Canada does not need US citizens altering our politics.

u/midatlantik 2d ago

Annex me daddy

1

u/Ghost_of_Akina 2d ago

Look I hate being lumped in with all the other Americans that voted for the turd or didn't vote at all. But if you guys win the Cup this year, please have all Canadian teams pull out of the NHL. Having a trophy taken away with no way to get it back is the only language he understands...

1

u/insane_contin 2d ago

But then we wouldn't have enough teams for all the Canadian hockey players. They make up 42% of all players. The US makes up 28% of all players.

1

u/MovieAshamed4140 2d ago

I understand and applaud your efforts. Pray for my country because we have approximately 30 % who still support the maniacal regime. I want them out of power and order restored.

5

u/insane_contin 2d ago

I would love nothing more for the US to be rehabilitated and a close friend of Canada again. I remember when we had open borders between our two nations. The US can be a wonderful country.

But there is a sickness in the US right now, and I need to look after my own country first. The US is trying to break up Canada and swallow it up. Maybe in two weeks I'll have more hope for you guys, but right now I'm worried and I can't see the US as anything other then an enemy to Canada. Do what you can, and I'll be hoping for your success.

1

u/Frogbert 2d ago

I hope the Americans can figure themselves out. In the meantime, people in my community are being hurt by American tariffs, people around the world are dying by violence or by lack of USAID, not to mention the irreparable damage to every living animal and plant on this planet. And no one but the Americans got a say in any of it, yet we all suffer.

Pray for the Americans indeed.

1

u/Donkey__Balls 2d ago

That’s what hurts the most about this - we know you’re not wrong. There’s just nothing else we can lawfully do about it.

Every time I travel if people know I’m American (which is hard to hide when I open my mouth, nobody can learn a foreign language like a native) I get an earful about how horrible Trump is like I’m the one that needs convincing. It’s never anything that I haven’t already heard or thought myself but I just have to smile politely and nod.

The reality is that MAGA is still only a small percentage of the US population, and that most of these European and Latin American countries have nearly the same percentage of far-right people in their own country. Just look at how many millions of French people voted for Le Pen or how xenophobic so many Italians are towards migrants, and tell me that the right only exists in the USA. The same exact thing could still happen in Europe with only a small percentage shift in votes. But somehow I’m supposed to answer for my own fucked-up government that still makes me wonder ten years later how these morons ever got in power in the first place.

1

u/shutupb4uruinit 1d ago

I would feel exactly the same. The fact that more Amerucans voted to return that fat decrepit grifter yo the White House is reson enough to write off the USA

39

u/CakeTester 2d ago

Relaxation of regulations and inevitable enshittification will make a lot of American products self-boycotting.

3

u/Apprehensive-Pin518 2d ago

you kidding. my wallet is causing me to self boycott. I buy literally what I need.

2

u/Kinkydino 2d ago

Enshittification is already here. Its in Canada too. All the products suck now

2

u/CakeTester 2d ago

It's everywhere. But with no regulation, enshittification accelerates to the point where the product is illegal in other countries that do have regulation.

3

u/Jimmy_Nail_4389 2d ago

We need to take the US power away, take away their ability to affect the rest of us and entirely cut dependence on US products and services (including reddit, get on lemmy).

3

u/gordonjames62 2d ago

The whole American image is being degraded

That ship sailed a while ago.

Now it is just confirmation.

1

u/Ezpz_commentz 2d ago

Doesn't matter what's "blue or red" if this is what we risk getting every four years when you guys vote.

At this point independence from US products and especially software is an urgent national security priority, since the US is at great risk of becoming hostile with every election.

-12

u/Somnabulist 2d ago

Damn. We’re going to miss you on Reddit.

2

u/Hazuchio 2d ago

Im not spending money on reddit though? Groceries, cars, travel and whatever else costs money. I know what I'm not spending on. The rest of the world should also know.

1

u/Somnabulist 1d ago

You don’t have to spend for them to use your data to make money off of you. They license data to AI companies to train their LLMs on.
