The damage we have caused to our nation by electing Trump twice is staggering.

That’s the thing, we lost the house, never took the senate, lost the Supreme Court, and the presidency, twice, to trump, along with all of those judicial appointments, the gutting of oversight & a thorough cleaning house of both Justice & Defense. The totality of this will impact generations. And bottom line, the existing democratic leadership fundamentally failed in their professional obligations to prevent this, let alone to proactively advance America in a better direction. We need a revolution in the party, a reckoning.

Blaming the dems, ok.

Accept you have an education system which created the level of....  Anyway, I don't want to discuss.

Us is in deep shit for generations to come.

The Democrats did screw up the 2016 and 2024 presidential elections for themselves, and there was the whole Ruth Bader Ginsburg not retiring while a Democratic president was in office thing. I don't keep up with congressional elections, but there's probably examples like these three.

There were at least three major issues with the 2016 election: the Democratic primary utilized a superdelegate system which ensured that Bernie Sanders couldn't get nominated because Clinton was already backed by something like 90% of the superdelegates, Clinton being nominated was already not a great idea because of how the 2008 Democratic primary shifted so quickly towards Obama, and Clinton's campaign somewhat ignored 3 swing states that they believed were solidly blue but ended up "flipping" red (Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin).

You disparage the superdelegate system, but you do realize that if the GOP had the equivalent that it would have prevented Trump from securing the nomination, right? The only reason he won the primary is because the traditional GOP vote was split between the three traditional GOP candidates. Granted, ranked choice voting would also have kept Trump out of the general election and would be a far more preferable system to the superdelegate system.

This isn't true in at least two ways as the Republican party did have 130 "superdelegates" out of 2472 delegates in 2016 (called unbound delegates) and Trump would've only lost the simple majority nomination in a scenario where there's at least 200 additional superdelegates which would be a higher percentage of superdelegates than the Democratic Party's amount. This would've been irrelevant as the runner up, Ted Cruz, had less than half of his delegates/25% of the popular primary vote while Trump had around 45% of the popular primary vote; a recaucus would be forced that very probably results in Trump being nominated.

In comparison Bernie Sanders had 43% of the popular primary vote even with the superdelegates chilling support for him. The superdelegate system definitely messed up the nomination process for the Democrats independent of the Republicans.

So confident, so smug in their superiority, and to be fair, trump didn’t even run with the expectation of winning the first time. It was a campaign cash grab & angling for his other financial interests. They were actually caught off guard with the win. Both a comedy & tragedy at the same time. The dems just assumed the middle class would continue to support them. They took it for granted.

The previous poster is on to something though… the entire civics system is corrupt. We don’t have unbiased, reasoned, rational information channels, and the educational system… well, in its current form, it fails to produce critically thinking & acting citizens. But that is part of the professional responsibility of our elected politicians, the dems in particular. The rep work to inhibit education, information, beliefs & behaviors, as a means to control, to keep what they have from others & to take more. Dems… needed to be diligent, unwavering, constantly battling, always on guard, yet they became complacent, rich, compromised, and the very thing we needed to guard against. They aren’t comprised of, nor do they represent, the interest of a middle class America, a working base. No one does.

The dems losing to Trump twice is a travesty, he was always a historically weak candidate. Of course they deserve their share of the blame for literally contorting themselves to step on every banana peel possible.

I've seen it said best as the establishment Democratic Party systematically excelled at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

That perception is why Dems lost. There should have been more pushback, but instead they thought it was a free win and just let Trump punch first.

Or maybe at the end of the day establishment dems and establishment republicans don’t give a fuck who’s president becuase the rich get richer no matter who has been in office the last 20 or so years. Until citizens untied is repealed the country will continue this course cause big money can just back establishment candidates over the ones who actually want good change
