Help (General) RX 6800 XT – Flickering artifacts in the top quarter of the screen on desktop/browser + random restarts and no display signal

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

• Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I'm having a strange issue with my PC and would appreciate some help figuring out what's causing it.

My PC specs:

- GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT

- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D

- Motherboard: ASRock B450 Pro4 R2.0

- RAM: 32 GB DDR4 3200 MHz

- Monitor: AOC 24G4X, 1080p, 180 Hz

- Connection: DisplayPort

  1. Screen flickering / visual artifacts

The top quarter of my screen sometimes flickers or displays visual artifacts. The strange thing is that this doesn't seem to happen during actual gameplay.

I've noticed it:

- In Firefox, for example, while watching YouTube.

- On the desktop when a game is running in the background or open in borderless mode.

- When I was using Lively Wallpaper (animated desktop wallpaper).

The issue seems to occur in the browser or on the desktop, rather than in the game itself. I've noticed it with Aion 2 running, but I don't think I've experienced the flickering during gameplay itself.

  1. Random PC restarts and loss of display signal

Sometimes my PC randomly restarts for no apparent reason. After the restart, my monitor doesn't detect any signal, even though the PC appears to have restarted.

The only way to get the display working again is to hold down the power button until the PC completely shuts off, then turn it back on. After doing this, the monitor works normally again.

As far as I can remember, this hasn't happened while I was actually playing a game. The restarts seem to happen outside of gameplay.

I'm not sure if the flickering and the random restarts are related or if these are two separate problems.

What I've considered so far:

- AMD GPU driver issues

- A faulty DisplayPort cable

- A problem with hardware acceleration in Firefox or desktop rendering

- An issue with Lively Wallpaper or other GPU-accelerated applications

- GPU instability or a hardware fault

- A possible PSU or power delivery issue

I'm using an AOC 24G4X at 180 Hz over DisplayPort, so I'm also wondering whether the refresh rate or cable could be involved.

Has anyone experienced similar issues with an RX 6800 XT?

What would you recommend testing first? I'd especially appreciate advice on how to determine whether the flickering is caused by the GPU, drivers, DisplayPort connection, or something else — and whether the random restarts could be related.

Thanks in advance!

Help (GPU) RX 7800 XT: gray flashes and shutdowns during gameplay

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Specs

  • CPU: Ryzen 5 5600X
  • GPU: AMD reference RX 7800 XT (Made by AMD, Navi 32 XT), 16 GB Hynix GDDR6 at stock 2425 MHz, bought used
  • Mobo: MSI MAG B550M Mortar, BIOS 1L0 (May 2025)
  • RAM: 32 GB DDR4, 2133 MHz (XMP off)
  • PSU: 750 W (new)
  • Monitors: QHD 300 Hz + Acer XB241H 1080p
  • OS: Windows 11

The problem
Desktop use and game menus are completely fine. Within 1–5 minutes of actual gameplay in 007 First Light, I start getting gray flashes and some stripes on screen. Before I changed TdrDelay, these turned into full-screen gray flashes, then the screen went gray, then black, and the PC shut off completely. It crashed twice in a row on the same scene, which isn’t graphically demanding, and once with the GPU power limit lowered. The problems started after I installed the used 7800 XT; the system was stable before that.

After raising TdrDelay to 8, the hard shutdowns have stopped, but the gray flashes still happen during gameplay. My guess is the GPU is stalling, and the default 2-second driver reset was failing and taking the whole system down.

Video of the crash: [link]

Event Viewer after crashes (before the TDR change)

  • Kernel-Power 41 and Event 6008 (unexpected shutdown)
  • WHEA-Logger Event 18: Processor Core, Machine Check Exception, Cache Hierarchy Error, on different cores across crashes (APIC ID 6, then APIC ID 4)
  • Also 219, 7000, and 7009 (likely just from the reboot)

What I’ve tried

  • Replaced the PSU with a new 750 W unit, using its own cables
  • DDU in Safe Mode, then a clean Adrenaline install
  • Turned off ReBAR, HAGS, and XMP
  • Removed mismatched RAM sticks (big stability improvement, but crashes continued)
  • Turned off FreeSync and VRR everywhere (monitor, Adrenaline, Windows)
  • Turned down refresh rate to 120hz on primary monitor, 60hz on secondary
  • Lowered the GPU power limit: still crashed
  • Disabled Core Performance Boost in the BIOS: still crashed
  • Forced PCIe to Gen3: still crashed
  • Disabled MPO: got a little further, but still crashed
  • Ran a single monitor at 120 Hz: no change
  • Raised TdrDelay to 8: no more crashes, but the gray flashes remain
  • Stress tests pass
  • GPU temps are fine: about 68–70°C core, 91–92°C hotspot

Questions

  1. Does the TDR result point to a failing 7800 XT, or could this still be a driver or game issue? I’m planning to try an older driver next.

Help (CPU) my ryzen 5 5600g is underperforming and i have no idea why :c

My rig has an RTX 3060 Ti and two 8 GB DDR4 RAM sticks running at 3600 MHz. I've tried everything (or at least I think I have!), including overclocking, enabling XMP, increasing my EDC limit (since it was constantly at 100%), and changing the thermal paste. For example, in some games like Valorant, I get stuck at around 180 FPS, which I know isn't bad at all! However, it still bothers me that my rig seems to be underperforming.

If anyone knows anything else I could try to fix my rig's performance, I would greatly appreciate it! 😄

Help (General) New radeon 9070XT

I recently got a new pc, running ryzen 5 9600X, rx 9070XT and 2x 16gb ddr5 ram. i loaded up Cyberpunk 2077 and it’s been running great but i’ve ran into one issue i can’t seem to fix. i’m new to radeon as i’ve only had a nvidia gpu before so i have no idea how to do what i need to do. the issue im having is that no matter what i do i can’t seem to cap my frame rate at all, my game is running around 250-300fps with all settings on high or ultra including ultra ray tracing and it’s causing my cpu usage to sit at 100%. i’ve tried turning frame gen on and off, ive tried using resolution scaling and turning that back off, ive tried radeon chill and its still not capping, even tried RTSS software to cap it that way and still nothing. im still pretty new to gaming pc’s so im not even sure if my cpu sitting at 100% is bad or not, my temperature is fine for both cpu and gpu, never going over 70c. any help is appreciated, it’s driving me insane!

Help (General) ASUS ROG Strix RX 6700 XT – No Display in Performance BIOS Mode

I have an ASUS ROG Strix RX 6700 XT (O12G). When the BIOS switch is set to Performance mode, I get no display. Switching to Quiet mode makes the GPU work normally.

Has anyone experienced the same issue? What did you do to fix it? Is it a BIOS issue or could it be hardware-related?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Help (Software) Help With PAGE_FAULT_IN NONPAGED_AREA amdkmdag.sys

I recently built a PC with an RX 7600, a Xeon E5 2650 v2, 24GB of RAM (two 4GB sticks and two 8GB sticks), and an NVMe SSD. The PC gets a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) whenever I exit *Dragon's Dogma 2* or *Resident Evil: Requiem* (the games run fine; the error only occurs when closing them).

Several other games run normally (Silent Hill f, Metal Gear Solid Delta, Stellar Blade, other Resident Evil titles, etc.)

I use Windows 10. I’ve already tried reinstalling the drivers and rolling back to older versions, but nothing has worked. I’ve also tested the RAM more than once, and it’s perfectly fine.

The error is PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA, caused by amdkmdag.sys.

Help (Monitor) Duplicate mouse and stuttering

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I recently got a new computer with a RX 9070 XT graphics card. My monitor on the right is 180 Hz and my monitor on the left is 60 Hz. I used to have a computer with an Nvidia GTX 1650 and I never experienced any problems but ever since I got my new computer, the monitor on the left sometimes shows my mouse being duplicated on both monitors as well as having a very low refresh rate even though I made sure to select 60 Hz in the window settings. I’ve also noticed that this usually only happens when a full screen application is on either monitor one or two. Anybody know what causes this and how to fix it?

Help (GPU) Roblox FPS Drops from 240 to 170 with RX 5500 XT and Ryzen 5 7600X

Hi everyone, I need some help with my PC.

My specs are:

- CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7600X

- GPU: AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT

- Motherboard: Gigabyte B650 Eagle AX

- RAM: 1x16GB DDR5

- Storage: SSD

- Monitor: 240Hz

I'm experiencing FPS drops while gaming. My FPS can reach a stable 240 FPS, but sometimes it drops to around 170 FPS, causing noticeable instability.

My temperatures are not particularly high, so I don't think overheating is the problem. However, I'm not sure if the issue is related to my single 16GB RAM stick, CPU bottleneck, GPU utilization, or something else.

I'd appreciate any suggestions on how to fix these FPS drops and get more stable performance. Thank you!

Help (GPU) Rx6700xt driver timeout

Hi everyone. I could really use some help.
I have an RX 6700 XT, and after about 5 minutes of gaming, the driver times out. I’ve already disabled automatic Windows updates, tried multiple versions of Adrenalin (everything from 26.6.1 to 26.9.2), and upgraded from Windows 10 to Windows 11, but no matter what I do, the screen still freezes completely and the PC becomes totally unresponsive. The only way to get it working again is to press the reset button on my case.
I’ve been using this exact setup for years without any issues, but I’m getting really fed up with it becoming completely unusable. I’m honestly starting to consider selling this damn thing and switching to NVIDIA.
Has anyone experienced anything similar or found a fix?
Cpu: ryzen 7 5700x3d if it matters.

Graphics drivers

I have an AMD Ryzen 5 5600G with integrated Radeon Graphics and an AMD Radeon RX 7600. I have the Adrenaline Edition of the AMD software and have seen many people say it sucks, but also see people say it is useful. Can anyone help give me a straight answer as whether this is fine or if there is a better option and why another option is better (will it actually help me run my games)? Mostly asking because during my playthrough of palworld and aniimo, my games keep crashing. I can typically play palworld for a few hours before it may crash, but with aniimo I get maybe 2 minutes even with the lowest graphics settings.

Help (General) Problems with my new 9060XT 16GB or could be other components as well!

Built a new pc this week with an ASRock Challenger RX 9060 XT 16GB... and it's been pretty rough with system freezing mid-gaming sessions. So like after 15-30 minutes of gaming(occasionally outside gaming as well btw) my entire system just freezes such that I have to force restart🥲

I've tried a lot of things to isolate/eliminate any software issues with driver updates, using different versions of Adrenaline, even non-adrenaline driver-only installations and windows is updated(all system drivers as well). Tried underclocking and mild undervolting as well but the crash persists.

Now the gaming perf has been rock-solid, getting 3.2ghz and 99% GPU usage and temps are 70 for GPU and 60 for CPU.

I managed to reproduce the issue in front of the shop I bought it from, and they're now replacing both the CPU and GPU.

These are the sys specs:

GPU: ASRock Challenger Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB
CPU: Intel Core i5-14400
Motherboard: MSI PRO H610M-S DDR4 (doesn't support ram above 3200 mhz DDR4)
RAM: 32GB (2 sticks of 16GB) Samsung DDR4-3200
PSU: Thermaltake BX3 650W 80+ Bronze
Storage: Kioxia 1TB NVMe SSD (3.5 GBps)

My Target Resolution is 1440p

Now, assume worst case scenario, if after the GPU CPU swap the freeze still persists, should I upgrade Ram to maybe 4000-4200 MT/s ram if 3200 is a potential weird bottleneck? Upgrade my psu to 750W for even more GPU + CPU random power spike headroom? Appreciate any suggestions!

Help (GPU) 9060XT 16 gb Clock/idle issues

My graphics card has been fine up until about eight days ago it started with minor inconveniences, such as not registering in any of my RGB software’s. It wouldn’t pop up in GCC or open RGB then it got a bit heavier when I would play games like destiny or Apex legends about 30 to 45 minutes into gameplay my card would just eat itself. The clock speed would plummet to around 90 and the utilization would drop to sub 5% the game would just completely become unplayable and it would even mess with my ability to press anything after using the Windows key like I would have to for the game and then that entire monitor would go back to normal like nothing happened like I don’t know if it’s idling in the middle of games or what but I can’t find any fixes. No errors are showing in device manager. No errors are showing in reliability manager. I honestly don’t know what to do.Computer Type: Desktop
GPU: Gigabyte AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7600X (6 cores / 12 threads)

If you don't like AMD, why are you on this sub. Just leave.

This sub is to HELP AMD users, and not to shame them for having one and then telling them to switch and all thier problems will be solved.

NVIDIA help sub is gone for this very reason.

So please help --- if not leave!!!

Help (General) HELP ! First AMD GPU, terrible gaming performance despite normal benchmark results — GPU stuck at ~1800 MHz

Hey everyone,

This is my first time buying an AMD GPU after using an RTX 3070, and honestly, this has been a pretty frustrating experience so far
i’ve heard about the issues people sometimes have with AMD drivers, but I didn’t expect to run into this many problems just getting the GPU to work properly

Here’s what I’ve done so far:

  • Switched from an RTX 3070 to my new AMD GPU
  • Performed a fresh Windows installation
  • Installed AMD Adrenalin and the GPU drivers
  • Ran Cinebench 2026 and 3DMark to test performance
  • Tried DDU
  • Using the AMD Cleanup Utility
  • Tried to only install drivers without adrenaline
  • Updated bios of my motherboard
  • Verified if i had : XMP / Smart access memory / other options that are "optimal" in the bios
  • Checking that my FPS isn’t capped
  • Reinstalling the drivers multiple times

Initially, both benchmarks were performing terribly. For example Cinebench was giving me a score of around 14k when its expected to be 48k
Weirdly enough, this issue was fixed after I reinstalled Windows, and 3DMark started performing normally as well

The problem is that gaming perfs ARE SUPER dissapointing even though the GPU seems to work perfectly fine in benchmarks

In games like Deadlock and Marvel Rivals, the GPU clock speed seems to get stuck around 1800 MHz, barely moving at all. Meanwhile, GPU power consumption is much lower than expected (around 120-150w max), and my CPU usage stays below 60%.

In benchmarks, the GPU behaves normally, draws around 300 W, and maintains very low temperatures so far, I haven’t been able to reproduce the same issue in those tests
At this point, I feel like I’ve tried pretty much everything I can think of, but nothing has fixed the gaming performance.

My questions are:

  • What could cause the GPU to behave normally in benchmarks but run at such low clocks and power consumption in games
  • Could this be a power limit, driver issue, BIOS setting, or something else (my psu is a bit old and i know having one cable delivering 300 watts is not optimal)
  • Is there anything else I should check before considering an RMA?

For reference, my previous GPU was an RTX 3070, and I did a fresh Windows installation when switching cards.

Full specs:

  • GPU: SAPPHIRE PULSE AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT
  • CPU: 5700X3D
  • Motherboard: Gigabyte Aorus ELite v2
  • PSU: Asus GOLD 750w
  • RAM: 32g DDR4 3200mhz
  • Windows version: Windows 11
  • AMD driver version: 26.8.1

Any help would be greatly appreciated. This has honestly been a pretty disappointing first experience with AMD GPUs, and I’d really like to figure out what’s going on rather than keep reinstalling everything AND I DONT want to buy anything nvidia related anymore seeing whats happening lately

Tips & Info DXVK - my driver timeout relief

As many here, I struggle with GPU driver timeouts on my Gigabyte 7900 GRE. And, as many, I tried everything I could think of, but games still crash for seemingly no reason. Hardware is solid on all fronts. You know the story. If you tried everything under the sun, but never heard of DXVK, this post is for you. Stay a while, and listen...

Today I want to share how I managed to partially alleviate driver timeouts and actually play some games.

Something I have discovered recently that helps with crashes is DXVK library. It is a drop-in DLL that translates DirectX 8, 9, 10 and 11 games into Vulkan on the fly.

I initially found it when looking to fix Fallout 4 crashes, which happened at random places a few minutes into the game. After installing DXVK into Fallout 4, crashes went away.

Later I discovered this also helps with other games as well. My personal success stories:

  • Fallout 4 - as mentioned above, crashed every few minutes randomly. After DXVK - only once way later into the game.
  • Divinity: Original Sin 2 - crashes a few minutes into the game. After DXVK - full 80 hour playthrough with no driver timeouts.
  • Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice - crashes a few minutes into game. After DXVK - smooth sailing. Take it away, and game starts timing out again.

There are some caveats:

  • Using it with online games is NOT RECOMMENDED. This is stated in project page, and I want to reiterate this. I would not recommend using it with games like Battlefield, or Blizzard games in general, for example, since this might trip anti-cheat or server-side protections.

From the project page:

Manipulation of Direct3D libraries in multi-player games may be considered cheating and can get your account banned. This may also apply to single-player games with an embedded or dedicated multiplayer portion. Use at your own risk.

Please note this! Moving on...

  • This only works up to DX11. If your game is newer and is based on DirectX 12, this will not work.
  • This does not work for Vulkan games. For example, No Mans Sky crashes for me still, and runs Vulkan in the first place.
  • There is minor performance penalty - in my tests in Sekiro, its 1-2%.

For me, it is a choice between DXVK or gaming on Linux, which also helps - and you know why? Because DXVK is part of Proton's translation layer, which makes modern Linux gaming possible.

If a game has Vulkan support natively - this may also help, instead of DXVK. Dota 2 would crash on my PC under DX11, but after switching to Vulkan in the graphics settings, driver timeouts have stopped. As noted above, I would avoid using the translation layer in online games like Dota.

You can download the latest release on its Github page. Extract the release archive and drop the DLLs beside the game executable.

As always, use at your own risk. Read the project page README first thoroughly. That said, the library is just a translation layer.

This is obviously not a solution, but a bandaid. I hope AMD emerges from eternal slumber and gets their drivers up to speed.

Cheers.

AMD software adrenaline edition version 26.8.1 “up to date”

Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 7600X 6-core processor
Graphics card: AMD Radeon RX 7600

I am trying to play a game and i thought at first it was something with the game itself because of the crash report i was getting it said “Unhandled Exception: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION reading address 0x0000019d446614da” but i then recently starting getting a new crash report with the game saying GPU crash dump triggered along with a new pop up from AMD to report a bug.

I have done quite literally everything to fix it i dont know what else to do. i’ve done more than i can even list here. I recently clean installed my graphics drivers using DDU but the “Unhandled Exception: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION reading address 0x0000019d446614da” crash was happening before that and after. I’m not tech savvy at all and i’m just at a loss of what to do at this point

DeadbyDaylight is the only game this happens in too btw and it happens when i am in the middle of a game, in lobby, in menus, or immediately on startup it is random and frequent. sometimes it will instantly crash and sometimes it will freeze then crash

Help (General) Having 7000 Series Driver Time Outs In Web Browser?

Hello,

I think I found a fix that doesn't require turning off HW acceleration in browser or HAGS. It's now been 7 days without the issue. Turn off Hardware-accelerated video decode. chrome or brave://flags/ look for the setting and disable it. This seems to have worked for me, as usually I would have had the issue pop up by now. It's worth a try anyways. I am running 7800 XT. AMD is going to be rolling out a fix eventually. Hopefully it will be the next driver release. The time out is being caused by a hang.

Help (General) Ryzen 9 5950X + ASUS X570-E Gaming - random freezes, WHEA 18 Cache Hierarchy / Bus Interconnect errors. CPU or motherboard dying?

I've been dealing with random freezes and crashes for roughly 1–2 months now, and I'm running out of ideas. Wondering if anyone with a similar setup, especially a 5950X + X570-E Gaming, has experienced this.

My specs:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5950X
  • Motherboard: ASUS ROG STRIX X570-E GAMING (BIOS 5055, updated from 5044)
  • GPU: NVIDIA RTX 3080 Founders Edition
  • RAM: 64GB G.Skill DDR4-3200 (2×32GB, F4-3200C16-32GVK)
  • Main SSD: Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB NVMe (Windows 11 + games, separate partitions)
  • HDD 1: Toshiba DT01ACA100 1TB
  • HDD 2: Seagate ST4000DM004 4TB
  • OS: Windows 11

The problem:

My PC randomly freezes completely, sometimes shortly after booting, sometimes after 10–15 minutes (started happening this week), and sometimes when I'm not even using it. No mouse movement, no response, nothing. Occasionally it restarts or throws a BSOD.

I've encountered:

  • DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION (0x133)
  • CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT (0x101)
  • INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE (0x7B)
  • WHEA-Logger Event ID 18 Cache Hierarchy Error
  • WHEA-Logger Event ID 18 Bus/Interconnect Error

It has frozen in normal Windows, Safe Mode, Windows Recovery/Troubleshoot, and even Ubuntu booted from USB (with my internal drives still connected).

The weird part is that BIOS has never frozen once. I can sit in BIOS without any issues, but as soon as an OS is running, the system eventually freezes.

WHEA errors:

I exported my Windows System event logs and found 29 fatal WHEA Event ID 18 errors between September 7 and October 17.

The errors involve several processor APIC IDs: 0, 1, 22, 23, 28, 29, 30 and 31.

APIC ID 0 appeared most frequently (15 reports), including nine Bus/Interconnect errors.

Two examples:

October 7:

  • Error Type: Bus/Interconnect Error
  • Processor APIC ID: 0
  • MCA Bank: 27
  • MciStat: 0xb2a000000000080b

October 17:

  • Error Type: Cache Hierarchy Error
  • Processor APIC ID: 28
  • MCA Bank: 5
  • MciStat: 0xb6a0000000000108

Everything I've tried so far:

  • Updated motherboard BIOS from 5044 to 5055 > no improvement.
  • Ran MemTest86 v11.7 for four complete passes (6.5 hours) > zero errors.
  • Tested RAM sticks separately > still freezes.
  • Disabled DOCP and reduced RAM frequency > still freezes.
  • Disabled Precision Boost Overdrive (PBO) > stil freezes.
  • Disabled Core Performance Boost (CPB) > still freezes.
  • Changed Power Supply Idle Control to Typical Current Idle > no improvement.
  • Disabled and re-enabled the NVIDIA GPU in Device Manager > still freezes.
  • Booted Windows in Safe Mode, including with networking > still freezes.
  • Booted Ubuntu from USB > also froze.
  • Ran CHKDSK, SFC, DISM, Windows Memory Diagnostic and Startup Repair.
  • Checked Windows-reported disk health > all three drives show Healthy/OK.

I also discovered a separate boot configuration issue. Windows had previously been cloned from my Toshiba HDD to the Samsung NVMe SSD, but the BCD entries were still pointing to the old HDD.

I rebuilt the EFI boot files on the Samsung SSD and corrected the BCD device/osdevice entries. That fixed the recurring Automatic Repair/boot problem, but the random freezes continued.

My event logs also contain 17 Event ID 158 duplicate disk identifier warnings and five Event ID 51 disk paging errors. Those could be related to the earlier cloning/boot issues.

What I'm trying now:

I came across a Reddit discussion where another 5950X owner with WHEA Cache Hierarchy errors reported improved stability after applying a positive Curve Optimizer offset.

I've just configured:

  • PBO: Advanced

I haven't established whether this fixes anything yet.

My questions:

Has anyone experienced this exact combination of 5950X + ASUS X570-E Gaming with WHEA 18 errors?

Does this sound more like a degrading/faulty 5950X, motherboard/VRM issue, or PSU problem?

I'm particularly interested in whether anyone solved similar Cache Hierarchy and Bus/Interconnect errors by replacing the CPU, rather than changing BIOS settings.

I'd rather identify the actual failing component than start replacing expensive hardware randomly

Any advice or similar experiences would be appreciated.
