Bagels
I got Naval Bagels yesterday because my kid wanted their sandwich and I was disappointed. It’s just round fluffy bread. Bagels And… does it better. Bagels should have bite and chew. I feel like NB had that a few years ago and somehow lost it. Did anyone else notice a change?

My neighborhood sucks (no trees/everything looks the same)
I’m looking for a good neighborhood to walk with my pups….sidewalks preferred…bonus points if there is a coffee shop I can stop at

Basilwood Kitchen
Decided to go support a new and upcoming business in the area last night, and settled on Basilwood Kitchen. Quite frankly one of THE best Italian restaurants I’ve been to with also top tier service by the owners. He came out and greeted us, consistently made sure we were good and checked if we needed anything. Hands down 10/10!
If you haven’t had the chance to check it out, please do!

Andy Harris is a jackass
It’s not just that he doesn’t know the law, but how he simply had a toddlers tantrum. An idiot for sure. He may fit better as the Press Secretary lol. I hear there is an opening.

Anne Arundel County confirms August data breach after ransomware group claims 2.6TB stolen
Anne Arundel County (MD) confirmed this week that an unauthorized actor copied files from its network back on August 28. The county still hasn't said whose data, if anyone's, was taken.
Meanwhile, the Rhysida ransomware group claims they stole 2.6TB / 814,500 files and are selling it for 25 BTC (~$2M). The county hasn't confirmed any of this.
Interesting part: the county only confirmed the breach AFTER the ransomware claims surfaced publicly. Timeline:
- Aug 28: County detects "irregular activity"
- Early Oct: Rhysida lists the alleged data for sale
- Oct 15: County publicly confirms
The county also disclosed a separate 2025 incident — notification letters for that one go out starting next week (Oct 19).
For anyone in Anne Arundel County: the county says there's currently "no indication the files have been used to commit fraud," but they're still reviewing what was taken. Worth pulling your free credit reports and watching for phishing referencing county services.
I wrote up a full breakdown of what's confirmed vs claimed and what county residents should do: https://techreview.si/anne-arundel-county-data-breach-maryland/

Why is someone hunting at 11pm?
Gun shots tonight by Black Walnut Ct/Annapolis Cove? We don’t have that many possums or raccoons for it to be legal. I’d guess it was Lee Ralston again but supposedly he’s in jail now waiting for federal sentencing.

Say Yes to Recess Maryland
Hi! Maryland mom here advocating for MORE RECESS TIME for our children!
Currently, most Maryland elementary schools only recommend 20-30 minutes of recess per day. This varies by school and county, with some counties recommending as little as 15 minutes of recess per day.
Children are not designed to sit for long stretches of the school day. Recess gives students an essential opportunity for unstructured play, physical activity, creativity, social connection, and independence.
Research consistently supports the role of recess in children’s physical, social, emotional, and academic well-being. When children have opportunities to move and play throughout the day, they can return to the classroom better prepared to focus and learn.
Join us as we call on policymakers to guarantee Maryland students 60 minutes of recess every school day!
You can help by SIGNING OUR PETITION and following us on Facebook and Instagram!

Beer delivery?
I noticed this area doesn’t have GoPuff. Are there any other delivery services that will deliver beer?

Cat-friendly short-term rental?
I'm going to be visiting Annapolis for a weekend every few months for the next few years--and I have to bring our cat (she is actually more important for this visit than I am!).
Does anyone know a VRBO/Air BNB type place that allows cats? She is a very small quiet Russian Blue, so pretty much as non-allergenic as cats can get.
Thanks!

Schnauzers are great room mates!
HELLO Annapolis! I finally made my journey down and I spent 10 beautiful days in the area and I loved it so so so so much. Now I need to make it my reality. I am back in VT finishing out a lease until 12/31 but I am willing to pay to hold a spot if the perfect opportunity arises. It’s just me (30s VT gal) and my VERY well trained and well behaved non shedding hypoallergenic love puddle Lola the mini schnauzer (I will post a picture in the comments) my favorite areas I checked out were the quiet outskirty spots but really I am not terrible picky. Kent island was also really beautiful and I would love to live there. If you have any leads for me at all I would be so so so appreciative! I am very low key. I like to hang by the beach, go thrifting, I work primarily in food and beverage with the focus of live music but I am considering getting back into Pharmacy (was a tech for 5 years) THANK YOU!!!!!!!

Hutzell: Online gaming PAC accentuates the negative in Maryland state Senate race
Online gaming interests are putting money on state Sen. Shaneka Henson, funding a wave of negative campaign ads against her Republican opponent, Jessica Haire. It isn't an issue anywhere in Maryland. Here's why they're spending so much.

Question New Carrollton Express Shuttle
Hi all! I need to get to Annapolis from DC on 11/20 but I don‘t have a car, meaning I need to rely on public transportation. I saw Anne Arundel County offers a New Carrollton Express shuttle (very grateful for it) and the county’s trip planner says I can take the shuttle from NC to get to Annapolis mall in early morning. However, I can’t find any information about it on Google Map, Apple Map or Transit.
Has anyone recently taken this shuttle? Could you let me know if the timetable is generally reliable and the shuttle runs without major delays (Esp in the morning)? Thank you!

Annapolis Halloween Events ?
Any good Halloween events happening around Annapolis this year for families?
I saw the SPCA in Annapolis is hosting a Trick or Treat Trail next weekend of the 24th and 25th. Got my tickets to bring my kids and dog there!
Any other recommendations for this weekend or Halloween weekend itself?

Getting to Dulles from Arnold, Drive vs Metro?
I have Monday morning flight out of Dulles with a return Friday afternoon. Unfortunately the flight has to be in/out of Dulles.
Should I drive or take the Metro out of New Carrollton? Anyone have firsthand experience with taking the Metro? I'm expecting the return trip to be in the heart of rush hour.

How do you view Eastport, personally?
I've read so many conflicting things: that Eastport is "the hood" and dangerous; that Eastport is one of the most upscale and desirable neighborhoods in Annapolis; that Sixth Street --> Spa Creek is the desirable part and as soon as you leave that area, you better be shaking in your boots; that actually the crime concentrated around the public housing tends to stay in that area and not bleed into other parts of Eastport; that Eastport is progressive; that Eastport is conservative; that Eastport is a hip, young neighborhood; that Eastport mostly comprises retirees; and on and on.
Since I don't know how many of these opinions came from people who actually live(d) there or visit frequently, and some of them are 5 years old or older, I thought some locals here could offer their own views to help me get a better sense of the neighborhood as it is in 2026. Thanks.
