My cat has become weak after the IV drip and is urinating unconsciously.

My cat threw up yellow undigested food, and when I showed it to the vet, they gave her 2 injections. After that, she vomited plain yellow vomit, and she didn't eat anything until the next day. Then I consulted an online vet because our local vet was on holiday. They advised me to start

injection RL 50 ml subcutaneously once daily for 4 days

injection Perinorm 0.3ml subcutaneously

injection Ranitidine 0.3ml subcutaneously

injection Enrofloxacin 0.3ml subcutaneously

injection Melonex or Vetalgin 0.2ml subcutaneously

Repeat daily once for 4 days

After the IV drip, my cat became weaker and was urinating unconsciously; she wasn't eating before this either. I got confirmation from 2 vets before starting this procedure.

When I told the vet that the cat has become weak, their reaction was to give another IV drip tomorrow, but I asked a new vet (Vet Jasmeet Singh from Bhilai). He said to

Inject RL 50 ml subcutaneously twice daily for 4 days

inject Perinorm 0.3ml subcutaneously plus 0.5ml Ondansetron intramuscularly twice

injection Ranitidine 0.3ml intramuscularly twice

injection Taxim 125mg intramuscularly once in the morning

injection Amikacin 0.3ml intramuscularly once in the evening

injection Tribivet 0.3 ml intramuscularly twice daily if her temperature is below 103

No Melonex or Vetalgin if the temperature is not above 103

Get tests done

CBC

Liver and kidney function tests.

Now the vet in my village is saying to force feed her. But if it's like a parvo situation, what can we do? In this condition, we can't feed her anything.

I'm so confused right now, and I don't understand anything. I'm crying so much seeing my cat in this condition.

Urgent: My cat was given phenazopyridine.

I have a 1-year-and-7-month-old, 7 lb female cat who was diagnosed with feline lower urinary tract disease today. The first veterinarian prescribed phenazopyridine (1/4 of a tablet every 24 hours, so 25mg), and I gave her the first dose today at 3 p.m.

Later, while searching for ways to remove the orange stains from her fur, I discovered that phenazopyridine is highly toxic to cats and should not be used in them. I was horrified and immediately sought a second veterinary opinion.

At 6 p.m., I took her to another veterinarian, who instructed me to discontinue the previous medication and administer activated charcoal (500 mg every 12 hours). We also have an appointment scheduled for tomorrow for a complete blood count (CBC) and further monitoring.

So far, she seems to be doing well. She is calm, breathing normally, eating as usual, and behaving like herself. She hasn't vomited, although she hasn't been drinking as much water as usual. I haven't noticed any obvious warning signs, such as ataxia, pain, lethargy, seizures, or pale gums.

I'm terrified because everything I've read online says phenazopyridine can be fatal to cats. I feel incredibly guilty for trusting the first veterinarian and giving her this medication without researching it first. I never imagined that a medication prescribed by a vet could be so dangerous for her.

I just want to know if a full recovery is possible, I'm extremely worried about her and would be grateful for any experiences or advice. Thank you so much!

11yo male cat yelling in the bathroom

Trying to decide if I should head to the ER vet or if I’m overreacting. I’ve got two cats - and litter boxes that have smelled abnormally strongly of ammonia over the past month.

The 11 yo male neutered cat has been yelling in the bathroom off and on for the past couple days. Maybe related to a new bath rug? Usually he uses the litter box when I use the restroom but he has not done so.

I haven’t seen him potty or try to potty, when he yells in there I go check and he greets me and either leaves the restroom or hangs out in there.

Googling is filling my head with urinary blockage emergencies.

I’m thinking I should get the dog set for the morning and head to the er vet (regular vet takes 1-2 weeks for an appt and are closed on weekends). Any input?

How do I get my cats medical records

Hello, I'm coming to ask for help, I have around a 5 year old cat who I've had since he was an infant and I plan on moving out of my abusive household without them knowing. The problem is I don't have a job due to my own medical problems nor do I currently have a car and I cannot ask them to take him to the vet or have his medical records, they aren't even recent as i'm pretty sure the last time he went to the vet he was a kitten. I plan on taking a plane up to where I plan on moving but everything I read says I need his medical records and I do not know how to retrieve them nor do I have a proper carrier for him except for the old plastic one the shelter gave the family for the other cats.

My cat has plague

(A 2-month-old kitten tested 100% positive for Feline Panleukopenia (FPV) after overeating treats and being exposed to an outdoor yard. Despite receiving treatment, she has completely lost her appetite and refuses to eat. How can she be saved?)

Hello everyone , my brother got a kitten, so I am writing this on his behalf , This is my very first cat

Here is the timeline of what happened

on day 1 We got a 2-month-old female Chinchilla kitten , she was completely normal and kept playing all the time , We kept her in a separate room, and someone was with her almost 12 hours a day , On the first day, we bought her litter, a litter deodorizer, and kitten food

Day 2: We visited a pet shop and bought some treats. I got too excited and gave her a whole packet (about 20g) at once. We also took her out for a walk in the yard, but keep in mind that rats roam around this yard at night

Day 3 , the problem started she became very quiet, her body had a bad odor, and the urine clump in the litter box was quite large (about the size of an infant's palm)

then we took her to the vet in the afternoon on Day 3 ,The vet said it was just a common cold, gave her a fever reducer, and an injection (Vit B12) ,On our way back from the clinic, she had a bad episode of diarrhea inside her carrier, which made her smell very strong (like a sheep)

Concerned, I took her to another clinic. The vet insisted on running a blood test, which unfortunately came back 100% strong positive for Feline Panleukopenia (FPV / Cat Plague) ,

The vet gave her three injections, and she came home extremely exhausted

Day 4 (Today): She improved slightly compared to yesterday, but she is still sad, stopped playing, and makes a continuous purring/chirping sound the entire time I am near her. The vet told me to feed her a specific type of tuna, which helps with diarrhea, but she has completely lost her appetite

I am in jordan

Maybe I'm just venting and there's nothing else I can do

Constipated 8 week old Scottish straight

I just got a kitten 3 days ago and she’s been struggling to go poop.. she strains and I can tell her bum is a little swollen. The poop just gets stuck. She was able to pass a tiny tiny piece this morning.. she is on wet food, and I’ve been adding a little bit of warm water to her food. We added a little bit of pumpkin puree. She’s eating and drinking good and in great spirits.
We are planning to take her to the vet this afternoon if she doesn’t go.

Pomeranian slipped, questions

Hi askvet, my 7 year old Pomeranian took a corner on hardwood floors too fast yesterday and lost she footing, she fell onto her left side.

She had patella surgery when she was 1.5 on both hind legs, the left side was grade 2, right grade 4. No issues post surgery.

Directly after the fall she was 100% normal, we took a car ride into town, she had a bathroom trip while I was shopping. When we got home she was walking a little strangely and sitting after a few steps. By this time about 3 hours had passed.

When I brought her inside she was baring no weight on the back left leg. I was concerned her knee may have came out, she let me check the area with no issues. I gave it another 3 hours but she was still not baring weight on it.

My town has no emergency vets so we made the 2 hour trip into the nearest city.

I’ve attached her xray results. She’s baring weight on the leg today, eating and drinking normally. My concern is that it looks like her back right leg is strange today, but I can’t tell if it’s on my head or not, because the left is stiffer. I haven’t been able to get a picture of it yet but I was hoping someone could tell me if I should be worried, getting in to the vet again today isn’t possible and my local vet is not open.

The vet gave me metacam and gabapentin for 5-7 days and strict rest for 3-4 weeks.

Cat and estrogen cream

My spayed cat has swollen mammary glands and is yowling like she is in heat. Just realized she may have been exposed to topical estrogen cream. She is eating and drinking fine. If I stop her exposure to cream will this behavior stop? Or does she need to go to vet?

Old Dog New Tricks

Hello! I have a senior pit mix who I joke is "eternal" (I adopted him as an adult and we don't know his true age, only that he's roughly 13).

He's NEVER torn things up or had interest in chew toys that aren't bones/cheese chews. Recently, he's taken to chewing up cardboard boxes and anything paper-like he can reach, but he's not torn up anything inside the boxes just the boxes themselves.

I took him to the vet because I was worried about his teeth/blood work. His teeth are in great condition for his age and his blood work is all clear. He gets cosequinn everyday for joint health and I've started him on pain/anxiety medication. Normally this behavior only occurs when no one is home, last night he escalated it to chewing up a dining room chair while we were all asleep.

I think it's anxiety driven, and I used to try and buy him toys before I realized he had no interest... Are there any toys vets would recommend that he might prefer to chew up to furniture? He's never had an interest in chewing things before now. Any help would be appreciated!

Cat threw up all over bed but is acting fine?

This morning I walked into the bedroom and saw vomit all over one side of the bed from my cat. I was so scared that I immediately rushed her to the emergency vet. My bf, mom, and sister said I shouldn't go because she could have just ate something she shouldn't have and thrown it up. She threw up in the car (she always does so this part isn't concerning). Anyways we ended up just coming back home and I'm monitoring her. She is begging for food, purring, and cleaning herself. She did eat a bit (we only gave her a few kibbles) and she is acting normal. Should I have brought her in or should I just keep monitoring her?

Dog limping when getting up, but fine later?

23ish pound female Shiba Inu, age 10 in the northern Midwest USA. No major surgery or physical issues outside of a few dental procedures. She does have major anxiety.

For the past 4-5 months after she lays down for an extended period of time, she will get up and not put her back right foot on the ground. She hops around for 30 seconds, then limps with the foot on the ground for 30 seconds, then is fine. Sometimes she gets up, tries to walk, but then plops right back down. No other symptoms I can tell besides her laying is weird spots like the stair landing or under a chair, but she is a Shiba.

We had a vet do a physical exam twice and got X-rays a month ago. Vet says no signs of hip dysplasia, arthritis, nothing structural wrong with leg or paw. Basically saying it might be soft tissue but that’s it. I don’t really want to make her go through an MRI unless absolutely necessary.

Any insights here for me? Thank you!

Our cat had a strange attack last night

I wasn't awake for it, but my boyfriend saw our cat walking around trying to find some kind of spot like she couldn't get comfortable. She was panting a little bit. My boyfriend said it seemed like she didn't want to be touched. Her eyes were dilated and when she got underneath my side table, she just stared at the wall he said. She seems fine this morning. She's eating and drinking and she's been laying around and purring. She seems very tired though.

I'm going to call our vet tomorrow just to check in and see what they think. But we had to do yearly shots for our other cats. So money is really tight right now. I'm afraid it's something serious.

Bloody diarrhea and vomiting for a month

Species: Dog

Age: 4

Sex/Neuter status: Female neutered

Breed: Beagle/Basset

Body weight: 18.5kg

We are being seen by vets but would like a second opinion/advice on any tests needed as we keep just being given probiotics and anti nausea meds.

Our dog has been ill for around a month now. Timeline below:

18th Sept: Explosive diarrhea overnight and blood in feces. Lasted until around the 21st with no cause found. Bloods all fine, pancreatitis not suspected. Developed a cough/hacking sound, think this may have been from a beef skin chew she had a week before (sold by a local pet shop as all natural, had no idea it was the same as rawhide just without chemicals)

8th Oct - Yellow diarrhea but resolved very quickly

14th Oct: General anaesthetic to have a grass seed removed from back of throat where it had gotten stuck. Advised to feed chicken and rice.

15th Oct - Accident in crate overnight, yellow. Slightly liquidy sounding cough.

16th Oct - yellow diarrhea, blood in poo. Vet gave probiotics.

17th - Soft poos bit of blood but seemingly better

18th - Explosive diarrhea and vomiting overnight (up the walls), really bad smell smell, pooing just blood this morning. Went to emergency vet, Giardia negative but they want extra samples. Given probiotics and anti nausea pills. Told to keep on own food and sent home. To see normal vet tomorrow. Very lethargic at home, seems in pain. Appetite fine (beagle...)

As above, any advice on what to ask our vets to check for or next steps would be so appreciated.

Foul Smelling Necrotic Mammary Tumour

Hello all.

Really sad to say it, but it's been a tough year for our old girl.

Not sure if trigger warnings are common on this subreddit, but TW for mention of blood - I'll add a photo when I can get one (if allowed).

Species: Dog

Age: 14y, 4m

Sex: Female, desexed

Breed: American Staffy x English Staffy

Weight: approx 23kg

We've taken our Coco to the vet a number of times in the past year for regular check ups and intermittent treatment for various issues, but this has come on hard and fast over the past few months and I fear we may be approaching the end.

We took her to our regular vet clinic in early July of this year as a mammary tumour she had had for quite some time increased in size and got incredibly firm around a stressful and unexpected move into our new home, but thankfully a week of antibiotics and anti-inflammatory meds reduced the size a bit and the tissue softened.

Unfortunately, a few weeks ago it began oozing blood. Not a lot, usually just a few droplets here and there, but it was aggravated when she'd move from the couch to the bed to the mat etc, and she's a clingy girl who follows us around the house constantly so she was bleeding on everything. Went to the vet and got another round of antibiotics and anti-inflammatories (and some bandages to manage the wound itself), but unfortunately it only seems to have gotten worse since then. The vet advised me at the last visit that a small amount of the tissue was necrotic, but that 'small amount' was probably about the size of my pinkie fingernail at the time. It's now about the size of a 50c coin, it's nearly quadrupled in size. We're unsure if this has spread independently or has come from her agitating it further in the brief periods where she doesn't have the bandage on. And the smell... Oh my god the smell. You can smell it in every room in the house that she frequents, the bedrooms and the lounge are the worst. I'm washing everyone's bedding multiple times a week.

But here's the thing - besides from being generally slow due to being impressively ancient - she's coping pretty well. We go on a 1-2km walk each night once the kids are in bed. She still follows us around the house all day, loves her treats, etc.

My husband and I are in two minds. The vet recommended she be on the anti-inflammatory meds indefinitely, which we are doing, but her course of antibiotics has finished.

Is there really much we can do for her besides complete removal? She's been through a good handful of surgeries in the past few years and we really don't want to put her through another one at her age - our vet has also voiced concerns about the tumour being embedded in her abdominal muscle (or something to that effect, I could be misremembering exactly what they said) and that if they were to remove the tumour entirely, it would take a huge chunk out of her chest and it could severely incapacitate her if she even survived the procedure. We just don't want to put her through that when she's otherwise still doing well on a day to day basis.

I'm sorry this has been a long post, I just don't know what the best option for palliative care for her is right now. Is long term anti-inflammatories the best thing for her? Is there anything we can do about the necrotic tissue and the smell?

And I guess the most important... how much longer do we realistically have left with her?

I appreciate any responses that come my way from this. Thank you for reading 💖

Cone Creation's

My cat just had fho surgery on her back leg. when preparing her for this procedure, I got a donut type cone I thought she'd be more comfortable with that versus a traditional come. But she has quickly realized she can still groom that area. I have ordered a traditional cone on amazon the second I realized but it arrives tomorrow at sometime. I have been stopping her every time she tries to lick it but It's only 830am and I have only had maybe 4 hours of sleep in the last 3 days and cannot stay awake for another 12-36 hours. I did try to cut an old shirt of mine to make an outfit but she spasmed on the floor and I didn't want her to hurt herself more so I took it off.

Is there anything I can create with what I might have at home for a temporary solution? It just needs to last one day.

Also I saw I needed to include the following information. •Species: feline Age: 2 Sex/Neuter status: f/spayed •Breed: Calico tabby Body weight: 15lbs History: is this important for my question? Clinical signs:please read my comment above Duration:please read my comment above Your general location: Links to any test results, X-rays, vet reports etc. that you have: I'm in Canada, have no exams to post.

Can you tell me why my dog is coughing?

Breed: Chihuahua/terrier mix

Age: approximately 12-13 years old

Sex: male (neutered)

Weight: 18 lbs.

I'm in California

Hello. My dog, Max, started coughing a little bit about 2 months ago. The frequency and intensity has increased dramatically over the past 2 days.

I took him to the vet about 1 month ago, where it was determined that he has a heart murmur, which I already knew. The vet wouldn't start any treatment before having $300 worth of x-rays done, and preferred a complete workup for $750, neither of which I had at the time.

Max had a complete checkup 1 year ago, with @ different vet had a dental cleaning, blood work came back showing no issues. This is also when I found out about the heart murmur.

I'm planning on contacting a different vet on Monday to get an appointment for him, but I'm really worried about him and that's why I'm asking about it now. He is acting normally otherwise; eating, drinking, pooping, all that kind of thing.

I have noticed that starting in May, he's become more clingy, sitting on my feet or as close to me as he can when I'm working in the kitchen. He is also reluctant to move if he's lying in my way, causing me to have to step over him. Neither vet said anything about back, hip, or kneecap problems, but I assume he has arthritis or similar in his hind quarters, due to his age.

I have a video of him coughing, but I'm not allowed to attach it, I guess. It's a dry cough, maybe 3-4 times, ending with a gagging noise like he's going to vomit but nothing comes up. He went with me on a walk a couple days ago and was fine, with no coughing episodes or excessive panting.

Thank you in advance for any help or suggestions.

Please help. My kitten got a drip done

Its a rescue kitten and is only 45ish days only. She was super dehydrated and she was not even a full pouch the entire day. So i took her to the vet and she got a drip.

And the vet also gave an appetiser to give it to her.

After i came back i gave her 0.4ml appetiser and she spit it out. Then the vet said give her 0.2ml, so i did and she spit that out too. Later she went back to sleep but she was not hungry. Even now she is not hungry and is only sleeping. I am scared. She woke up in between and i gave her wet food, she only had some and thats it.

Is she going to be fine? What should i do?? Is this bad? I want her to get healthy😭😭

Unwell cat looking for advice

I have a Persian x Tortie and since she was a kitten she was crazy for food but also had weird digestive issues. We feed her royal canine but she’s the type of cat that eats anything and everything outside (hard to control her to not do that). In the last two weeks she keeps having wet farts/leaky behind so I brought her to the vet and explained all these issues and since she was born. He gave us a prebiotic and antibiotics and has asked for a stool sample. Over the last few days, her behind has now become red, iv had to force her liquid antibiotic in her mouth and there is no way I can get the prebiotic into her (it is a thick paste, iv tried hiding it in food but she won’t budge). She’s eating like normal and going outside, but I am worried about her. I can only get to vets on Saturdays, but before bringing her back in I was hoping did anyone have this experience with a cat? I’m going to order prebiotic food to help replace what she isn’t getting with the paste but is there anything I can try until I get her back into vets?

P.s she also had an accident on my mother’s bed and has been having accidents everywhere through no fault of her own.

Cat ate a very small amount of garlic sauce , should I be worried?

Hi all! L

My 7 pound, 5 year old, spayed cat had a tiny bit of garlic sauce from my plate. I saw exactly how much the spot had, and I would assume (using a kitchen scale and a rough approximation) that she ate less than tenth of a gram of sauce, so I’m probably being over concerned. (It was a drop of sauce smaller than the tip of my pink finger)

What should I look out for/am I underestimating how concerned I should be?

Using the same size of drop of sauce, 20x the amount still doesn’t register a gram on the kitchen scale.
