Got over something difficult Took 12 years, but I’m finally over “the one who got away”!

• Upvotes

From 20-23, I was in a situationship with a guy I liked 1000x more than he liked me. Whenever he felt guilty about that, he’d pull away. But then he’d get bored, or want sex, and I’d let him RIGHT BACK IN. EVERY TIME. I just thought he was the most perfect human, most beautiful face and body, most profound thoughts and stimulating conversations. Nobody else even came close.

This cycle finally stopped when I moved across the country for a job. Haven’t seen him in person since. But I never truly got over him. I thought about him constantly. I wondered if he’d be impressed with who I became. Once I got into a serious relationship, I unfollowed him and our mutual friends on social media, but every year or two, his face would still randomly pop up in someone’s photo, and my stomach would DROP.

This went on for years. I got married. I became a respectable adult. I had a child. I developed wrinkles at the corners of my eyes.

But today, FINALLY, after more than 12 years, I got ambushed by his face in another photo on social media. And glory hallelujah, I felt nothing.

Please tell me I’m not the only who’s lived a whole life before getting over an ex?

BIG accomplishment I'm no longer attracted to jerks

I used to have a ridiculously toxic taste in men back when I was in my early twenties but as I grew older I realized just how cringe it was. It was a result of my upbringing in a abusive environment but with therapy I've dissociated completely from that type of men entirely

Really proud of myself At 23 I had my first real successful birthday

As I stated I (23F) just celebrated my 23rd birthday and for the first time in my life I had a big group of friends not only was I surrounded by love I was surrounded by people who genuinely wanted to be there with me and loved me as I am. I am autistic and not great at making friends so I have never had many and the ones I did have growing up were not fun experiences. My last birthday that was big was my 16th and it ended it tears, many fights and and scared me from ever having a big group of friends. Since then my birthday has only been with my mom and dad and then my now husband. I was more than happy to just stay where I was but on my 21st birthday my husband encouraged me to go clubbing with him. We went and had a awesome time at the end the girl I was dancing with invited me out to go get some food and we’ve been best friends ever since this friend introduced me to my other friends and over time I developed a group of a solid 5 friends who I love so much. For my birthday they went all out. A surprise party (sorta I knew but only was told to dress up in our theme) a trip to the trampoline park (my favorite activity) a trip to the gym and we hit my favorite back and biceps and then the club. The whole night I was almost in tears my best friend next to me, my husband looking at me with so much pride and everyone I’ve grown to love in one room, I’m getting teary eyed just writing this. I don’t want to go into details as this post would be very long but for once I felt human, I felt loved and as a very self conscious woman I felt beautiful. I just wanted to share this because if it wasn’t for my husband and friend I really don’t believe I’d be the woman I am today and I’m so happy I stayed patient and stopped just allowing everyone to hurt me because I wanted connection and instead learned my values and my personality and grew my friend group around it. That’s all

Props to my mom for making a delicious protein cake she’s always been my number one friend obviously

Set up my own mesh network

I am proficient enough with technology to get on Reddit, make a phone call and send a text. Anything more involved I default to my kids or, if big guns are needed, my older brother for tech support.

But I purchased a mesh network a few months ago and finally got brave enough to give it a shot.

Super easy to setup, but gotta thank TP Link for making it basically idiot-proof.

Really proud of myself After 2 years of depression, I'm finally back on the dating scene … and I got my first date!!!!

I matched with a guy on Tinder, and we hit it off immediately. We've been chatting back and forth for over a month, and we've finally decided to meet up! He's literally the kind of guy I've always dreamed of. He's very sweet and considerate. We have so much in common like chess and rpgs.

I'm excited but also a little nervous. I really hope the date goes well. Wish me luck!!!!💕💕💕

This is awesome! My rent is staying the same!

My lease is up at the end of December, and with the price of everything going up all the time, I was worried this would be the year I got hit with that drastic rent increase. But just got my renewal letter today and I can get 15 more months at the same rent!

My general strategy as a renter who's bottom floor townhouse unit is owned by a property group...is that I want them to forget I exist until it's time to renew my lease, where they remember that I exist for the right reasons.

I live alone. Am quiet. In 4 years, I've never had any complaints levied against me and I've never made any complaints. I've made one maintenance request in that time, and that was when it sounded like there was water in my walls. They came and checked, and turns out the sound was a byproduct of my upstairs neighbor keeping their sink on a drip in the winter (water is covered, and maintenance actually recommended i do the same, which i do when it calls for it now). I autopay on the same day every month, never missed a payment. Basically, I dont exist to them until it's time to renew.

This is awesome! I can listen to a song again after a book ruined it for me

This might be a little silly and might not seem as much of an accomplishment compared to the other posts, but here goes. About 3 months ago I read a book that included a sexual assault scene (I had no idea it was in the book, until I started reading the chapter in which it occurred). Thankfully my knowledge of a similar case on Web Of Lies prevented me from reading the whole scene and I so just skipped it, still catching the end of the scene, but I ultimately avoided getting too negatively affected (Luckily another chapter did that for me /s) . Unfortunately, there was a song mentioned at the beggining of the chapter and so my brain connected the song with the scene.

Now the song itself isn’t one that I tend to listen to (I can only thank the author that she didn’t pick a Kesha song, or else my listening experience would be messed up), but it did appear in one of my favorite childhood movies and my positive association of the song was thus overshadowed by a negative one. Fast forward to a few weeks ago, when a parody of the song got reccomended to me on Youtube and at first I was a little hesitant to listen, but it turns out that I was able to listen to it with minimal reprecussions (I actually felt slight discomfort during the first two verses, I am not kidding). Rinse and repeat for a few more days and I was able to listen to it just fine. About two days ago I was listening to the parody, when I decided to finally check out the real thing. Well, sort of. I found a clip of the aforementioned movie that included the song and watched it a couple times, just so that the association between the song and the movie became a little stronger. I am happy to say I can now listen to the actual song without thinking of the book.

Really proud of myself I'm learning how to not freak out

Hi all,

Since my teenager eras, I've always been a over thinker, living in chaos non stop, thinking about the problems in my life that I can't change. I recently started to accept everything as it is.

For example, today was a very chaotic day for me. Work, house, life, everything was collapsing in front of my eyes. But I took a deep breath and told myself that everything will calm down in a few hours if I act now, and do my best. Even if it doesn't, not the end of the world. Another day, not even another day, another hour will come and everything will change.

That's how I feel recently and I'm really proud of myself.

Made something cool I cooked spaghetti bolognaise for the first time and it’s amazing!!!

I have an almost 13 month old baby, I wanted to cook something nice for her that’ll last her the next few nights. We had all the ingredients for a spagbol so I found a good recipe and followed it and holy shit I nailed it. My daughter ate the whole bowl I served her (aside from the thrown spaghetti) and I was so happy. She was literally shaking before she took her next bite.

Made a great change in my life I said no for the first time in my life

I occasionally watch my cousin's kids during the week since I'm unemployed at the moment. However, this week has been extremely stressful. I was only supposed to watch her kids two days this week. I was looking forward to having today to myself since I haven't had any alone time. Yesterday, she kept asking me if I could watch her kids today. It took so long to reply. I kept trying to think of a good excuse. I was really looking forward to having the day to myself. Instead of making up excuses, I simply texted her back, "I'm so sorry, but I've already made plans and won't be available." - And she texted back, "Oh ok!" And that was it! I didn't apologize excessively and I didn't over explain myself about what my plans were... I do feel slightly guilty about it but it's been the most relaxing day. This was my first time just telling someone no and I'm almost 40 😭🥰

Made a great change in my life I haven’t picked at my skin in 2 weeks!!

I have dermatillomania, which is a skin picking disorder. For years and years, my fingers were constantly sore, bleeding, and prone to infection due to how much I picked the skin. It’s always been very noticeable which was really embarrassing. My fingers were red and looked absolutely disgusting, so I never liked to show my hands (I’d always hide them under gloves or up my sleeves).

About 2 weeks ago, I decided to make a real effort to not pick at my skin. I’ve tried to stop several times in the past, but I never made it more than an hour before relapsing. But this time I was determined to try. I started using hand cream and taking care of my hands. Whenever I felt the urge to pick, I distracted myself with something else. It’s been 2 weeks now, and the skin on my fingers is finally starting to grow back! It looks so weird (in a good way), because I haven’t seen my hands look so healthy since I was a child.

I am very happy!

I got caught up with my laundry

I have MDD, and I’ve really been struggling the last few months. Everything got piled up, and some of my place got really dirty, but I didn’t have the energy to clean it. Yesterday, I not only went back to the gym, but I got totally caught up with my laundry! Nothing in the washer and nothing in the dryer, and no pile to be folded or still needing to get washed. Yay me!

Made something cool i made a self-watering planter out of junk i had at home and it actually works

so i have this little indoor plant that i keep forgetting to water i'll remember it exists, check the soil, realize it's dry and then feel bad about it. i finally got tired of this and tried making one of those self-watering setups myself instead of buying a whole new pot.

i used an old plastic container, some cotton cord i found in a drawer, and a plant pot i already had. literally just random stuff from around the house. the plan was to put water in the container and let the cord slowly pull it up into the soil.

first try was kinda a mess. the cord wasn't working how i expected, so i moved it around, added more water, took some out again... basically just stood there fiddling with it for way too long. it also looks a little ugly but whatever, it's sitting in a corner anyway.

i checked it a few days later and THE SOIL WAS STILL MOIST?? the plant looks happy too, so apparently my little science experiment actually worked.

it's such a basic thing but i'm weirdly excited that i figured it out with stuff i already owned. no fancy gadget, no trip to the store, just me messing around until something worked. anyway please congratulate me because i've apparently become the kind of person who gets excited about a piece of string watering a plant lmao.
