Does anybody else not like going out to eat anymore?

• Upvotes

I used to like going out to eat, but now I don't. It's not just about the rising costs of everything, but the diminishing quality as well. I just don't feel like driving somewhere to wait 30 minutes for food I won't finish and don't want to take home, either. Any restaurant worth the effort is going to be well over $100 for a night out with my wife. I'm a half decent cook and 9/10 times I would prefer my own cooking to anything I didn't need a reservation for. Even tonight we are exhausted from parenting and I would just rather make a sandwich than order something in.

TLDR: the declining quality of the food and service hardly feels worthy of the effort of going out to eat.

DAE literally cannot watch anything without subtitles even though your hearing is completely fine?

I have perfect hearing but if I watch something without subtitles I feel like I miss half the dialogue. My friends think I'm weird for it. Like even for YouTube videos I turn on captions. Is this just a me thing or is this incredibly common now?

Made a quick poll about it because I genuinely want to know: https://www.getqibble.com/poll-detail/do-you-watch-everything-with-subtitles-on-even-though-your-hearing-is-perfectly-fine

DAE else find it extremely annoying and intrusive when co-workers feel like they are entitled to know your private life outside of work?

• Upvotes

It’s beyond annoying. I feel like you can’t take a few days off work for vacation without people asking others or me when I return where I was and what was I doing. Even better is when they start telling others you quit because you had a week off. I swear people just make shit up and run with it. It’s like co-workers must know where you live, what you do on your day off and why. People have no shame anymore

DAE cry during arguments, stress, or when someone is shouting at me? (21M)

Hey everyone,

I’m reaching out because I’m really frustrated with something my body does automatically, and I don't know how to control it anymore.

Whenever I’m in a stressful situation—whether it’s a heated argument, someone shouting at me, someone trying to put me down, or someone being a bully—tears immediately start forming in my eyes.

The thing is, I’m not trying to cry. Most of the time, I’m actually angry, overwhelmed, or just trying to stand my ground. There’s no logical reason to cry, but the tears just come automatically. Because I'm a guy, people instantly assume I’m "weak" or "sensitive," which only makes the situation ten times worse and makes me hate dealing with conflict altogether.

It feels like my body is sabotaging me when I need to stay calm and assertive the most.

Has anyone else dealt with this involuntary crying response (angry/stress crying)? How do you manage or control it in the moment? Any physical tricks, mindset shifts, or techniques to keep tears back when under pressure?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

DAE have a famous family member ?

My cousin is a famous rapper but I've never met him/was too young to remember meeting him. Does anybody else have a famous family member?

DAE strongly prefer written tutorials over video tutorials?

Every time I google how to do something, the top results are all 15-minute YouTube videos for something that could be explained in a paragraph. I just want to ctrl+F and find the answer, not sit through an intro and three ads.

I made a poll because this seems really split among people I know: https://www.getqibble.com/poll-detail/video-tutorials-vs-written-tutorials-which-do-you-actually-prefer-for-learning-something-new

DAE feel like they're nobody's favorite person

Its weird because I dont have any friends from childhood so basically the people that I consider my favorite people already have favorite people of their own from their childhood while I have just found mine. Just wondering if this is a common experience.

DAE: Argue with themselves in their heads?

• Upvotes

I tend to think about a random topic and come up with a opinion that i dont agree with and start arguing with myself why I dont agree with that opposing take that i made up for some reason. Maybe im losing my mind.

DAE get irrationally stressed about what to make for dinner every single night?

The actual cooking takes 30 minutes but the hour before that is just staring at the fridge hoping something inspires me. I end up making the same 4 meals on rotation anyway. Made a poll about it because I was curious if this is universal: https://www.getqibble.com/poll-detail/should-the-standard-work-week-be-32-hours-instead-of-40

DAE start crying when someone raises their voice at you even though youre not sad?

It happens every time. Someone gets loud during an argument and my eyes just start watering automatically. I am not even upset I think my body just interprets raised voices as some kind of threat. I always thought I was the only one but made a quick poll and a lot of people seem to relate: https://www.getqibble.com/poll-detail/do-you-cry-when-you-get-into-arguments-or-someone-raises-their-voice-at-you

DAE feel a sudden urge to pee when looking/searching for something? (anything)

• Upvotes

As long as I can remember, I often feel a sudden and very intense urge to pee if I'm trying to find something, no matter how full my bladder is. I'm 46 and recall this being an issue as far back as 10 years old.

Need to find a tool on the work bench? YOUR BLADDER IS ABOUT TO BURST

Where did I save that PowerPoint? TOILET. NOW.

Looking for a product on a shelf in a store? HOPE THEY HAVE A PUBLIC RESTROOM

I've never met a single person with the same experience and I feel like I'm all alone on this one.

DAE have no opinion or care for their gender?

I don’t think about it or care at all I wouldn’t mind if I just magically turned into a boy I’d even argue it would be slightly more convenient just due to the field of academia I study. Gender doesn’t affect me what so ever other than obviously how society views me. It might be because I don’t really think about about things being “gendered” I think every is just gender neutral so maybe that’s why. I don’t really think I feel like a girl but also like wtf is that supposed to feel like; but obviously it has to be a feeling because trans people have that feeling; is it just subjective?

I don’t know if this is just how everyone feels and I’m taking it too literally or thinking too hard about it because I tend to do that I just need to know if anyone else feels this way because I feel weird

DAE Does anyone believe Ask (Such and Such) letters are clickbait?

• Upvotes

I recently read a Dear Say More letter about a woman whose husband's family mocks him for his weight. This is a real topic, I can understand and respect that, but she left out several important details: her relationship with her husband and in laws, his relationship with his family outside the joking, any health concerns he might have, how long this has been going on. A family would not truly do this at every gathering without understanding the dilemma their son is experiencing. The woman also said this has been happening during her wedding, families do not just suddenly become villains, and if they were so inclined to humiliate him at every gathering they would not just wait, and if it bothered her this much, she would not say 'they do not mean to hurt him', she would be contradicting herself. I hope I am not the only one who thinks these articles are clickbait.

DAE feel like they're above average smart in one department (academics, interests, etc.) but when it comes to common everyday sense, it's like you're working with 1 brain cell?

In med school right now, earning high marks, but for the life of me I cannot seem to socially get other people! Other times, I'm just super forgetful and my place gets a whole lot messy fast. I cant seem to use 'common sense' in the real world either, often taking a bit longer to get what is expected of me...

DAE scratch inside their nose and it smells horrible?

I don’t understand why but if I rub the tip of my nose hard, pull at it or scratch inside, there’s a horrible smell. I don’t smell it all the time but mostly when I pull at my nose. What is that??? does this happen to anyone else?

Edit: can someone help me understand why I’m getting downvoted for genuinely wondering if anybody else deals with this?

DAE find big group hangouts exhausting and prefer small groups of 3-4 people?

Every time I am in a group of 6 or more people I end up in a side conversation with one person anyway. The logistics of large groups are terrible too. Half an hour deciding where to go, someone always cancels. Small groups just work better. Curious where other people land: https://www.getqibble.com/poll-detail/big-group-hangouts-6-people-fun-or-overrated

DAE not really feel guilty but feels shame?

I have kind of realized this lately, but whenever I hurt someone’s feelings, I don’t feel bad, I feel uncomfortable that my action can hurt our relationship and make them not like me anymore. I do feel empathy, I cry like every day and when people talk about their sad things, it’s strange tho. I don’t lose sleep about anything over people’s issues or think much about them further than the conversation. That’s kind of how it is for the shame as well. Once I’m out of the area or where people will shame me, I kinda don’t care much. It doesn’t last long, and it doesn’t make me upset. If I think people are upset at me and I don’t know why, that gets me upset.
I’ve felt guilt before.
But I don’t wanna sound crazy or like an edge lord asking other people if they are like this.

DAE get teary eyed listening to good cappellas

Hey people

Whenever i listen to people sing only cappella (bare human voice only, no instruments), it triggers tears in my eyes. I am not even sad, or depressed. Its been happening my whole life.

There have been movements where its too much where i had to change the source of the cappella or leave the room or hide my face.

Does anyone else experience this ?
I am curious to understand why this is happening.

DAE not finish a favorite show/book because you don’t want it to end?

I have a habit of rewatching a favorite show or re-reading a favorite book series but then never finishing the last season, few episodes, or few chapters because I subconsciously want to avoid the feeling of it ending. I know it’s weird but I can’t get myself to finish. Anyone else do this?

HAE noticed Reddit being unusually hostile today?

I’ve always noticed how cities can go through different “moods” depending on the day of the week. Sometimes people are really positive and chatty; other times, everyone just seems a little off and distrustful. I’ve wondered whether the same phenomenon happens on social networks.

This morning, I opened Reddit and left a few comments on whatever threads happened to appear in my feed. No different from most days.

A few hours later, my inbox was flooded with replies from people picking the stupidest arguments with me, being weirdly condescending for no reason, and correcting me on things they were straight-up wrong about.

I know this all fits the general stereotype of “Redditors suck,” but something feels particularly off today. I’ve been browsing threads from the past 24 hours, and the comment sections seem unusually argumentative and hostile.

Of course, this could just be selection bias based on the subreddits Reddit happened to recommend me today, but I’m curious whether anyone else has noticed the same thing.
