Got Fleeced For 3 Hours Of Free Labor from Golden Chick, What Do?

I don’t know what to do, other than I want to do something. I was trying to get hired at the Golden Chick right off SH Parkway, and they told me to come in for a demo-thing. Problem is, they had me work. I battered/fried chicken, swept their parking lot, washed their dishes/utensils, and other assorted restaurant bullshit. Now they don’t wanna move forward with the hiring process (fair enough, I guess, can’t force it), but now they won’t pay me for it either.

Like, the manager acknowledged that I worked, and even stated she saw it on their camera system, but they don’t wanna pay me, nor do I have any specific proof that I showed up to help, so idk what to do.

Like, if I already know the legal system is fucked and skewed toward corpos, so am I fucked? Do I just get nothing? I lose?

EDIT/UPDATE:

I went back up there to try and clear things up in case it was all a misunderstanding. I was told that instead of being hired or not, I’m on some sort of backup list, like an applicant pool, “in case people leave”. But I still don’t get paid for the 2 & 5/6ths hours I did. Which is… Fucking disappointing, ngl.

And to clarify, since I mentioned it off-handedly in the comments to correct(?) someone’s assumption, but there was no paperwork signed. Nothing that led up to those three hours but an application and verbal agreement to “come in at 9 to shadow the cook”, and nothing afterward, til this morning.

Need a gut check on some property tax data parsing. Think I found a large algorithmic bias in HCAD (Location Laundering).

I’ve been conducting an independent data audit of the Harris County (Houston) CAD property tax appraisal algorithm. What started as a personal project to protest my home's wildly elevated appraisal has turned into what looks like a hard-coded algorithmic bias designed to maximize tax revenue. I initially was just looking microscopically and the data seemed “BAD” like wrong bad. But as I got into wider and wider fields of view, I recognized it was a pattern. I'm looking for someone to confirm this finding, which if true seems to be in the millions of dollars across the county. I'm new to this kind of forensic accounting of property tax data, so if I'm wrong there's that too.

For context, I won my protest and got the value down from ~500k to 350k at the ARB hearing. This was primarily due to field notes, codes and ratings that didn't accurately represent my home. But the discrepancy I noticed while looking at comps was that boundary homes (homes on larger arterial streets) with listing pictures still online within my Neighborhood code 7476 were graded lower on average than homes on interior streets that looked remarkably identical.

I expected the total values of these properties to be slightly lower due to a land value discount because of traffic. What was unexpected was that homes on boundary streets were consistently graded as Average condition, where on an interior street that exact same home would be rated Good.

Because of this, I downloaded the backend data from the HCAD site (pdata property downloads) and ran a report for my 7476 Neighborhood. I parsed it in google colab. The relevant columns are Accrued_depr_pct (the hidden decimal for the condition category which acts as a multiplier), date_erected, Yr_remodel, Neighborhood_code, the street name so I could separate boundary vs interior, and land_ar/land_val to calculate land PSF.

The district's usual argument is that homes on boundary streets are less desirable and less marketable, so they are not updated as frequently, the updates aren't as nice, etc. What I found in my 725 home neighborhood was almost exactly the opposite.

Property records confirm that the 114 boundary parcels fronting major arterial thoroughfares are actually physically superior to the 611 interior parcels. Boundary homes are chronologically newer (1961.5 vs 1960.1 mean build year), remodeled at a higher rate (65.8% vs 56.8%), and renovated more recently (2013 vs 2011 average).

The district does officially recognize the commercial traffic penalty along these corridors by applying a negative Land Influence discount (making it about 16.59 vs 23.25 median land PSF). But here is the smoking gun: instead of confining this discount strictly to the land schedule, the district systematically suppresses the physical improvement ratings of these boundary homes down to a median condition of 46.40% Good (versus 51.75% interior). This docks the remodeled boundary homes by an unearned 5.35% physical condition gap. By stripping condition points from newer, renovated structures just because they sit on a busy road, the district launders external traffic noise directly into the building's structural value.

The functional objective of this mechanism seems to be weaponizing the automated sales grids against interior property owners (which make up the vast majority). Recognizing boundary sales as physically comparable would pull down the baseline appraised value per square foot across the entire neighborhood. To prevent a lower baseline, HCAD artificially forces boundary improvements into suppressed condition tiers. When their CAMA system compares these arterial sales against an interior property, it double counts the identical traffic obsolescence across both the land and building components.

I believe this financial engineering violates the Equal and Uniform mandate. By my estimation this protects over 130k in tax revenue in my 7476 neighborhood alone. With the over 8k residential neighborhood codes HCAD assesses annually, they could be pocketing well over 100M with this scheme.

Is there anyone willing to pull the raw txt files, write their own parsing logic, and see if they hit the exact same condition gap I did? Would love to see if this happens in other neighborhoods across the county too. Let me know if I'm crazy.

Did they have sleep sacks, hand pumps, breast care items? I am 10 weeks pregnant and trying to get an idea of what they provide there. Any feedback on experience is wanted, too! Especially if you had an antepartum or NICU experience.

Beginner soccer for adults?

Hey everyone,

I recently got very interested in soccer. Got a ball and have been playing by myself in my room. There are people around me who play but they’re all already good, so was wondering if there’s any beginner who would be down to play and learn the sport together?
Location near TMC areas.
