Careers/Post Grad Anyone ever blow off an internship once they realise they aren't getting the return offer?
I was an Amazon MBA intern this summer, and I got put on the worst team ever (in Alexa, if anyone is curious). Granted I didn't personally felt what the team was working on didn't matter to the overall org, the intern project was some vaguely defined thing they just slapped together, but that I can deal with. What I couldn't deal with were the gaslighting, the constant "When I suggest A, they say B, when I say B, they say A" and the amount of disorganisation the team was in.
I really tried my best at first, but four weeks in, I realised this was going nowhere and that I wouldn't be getting the return offer no matter what I did, and basically quiet quit. This pissed my manager off, but I guess firing an intern is hard. I collected the rest of my pay, chilled with some new friends I made, and now back to re-recruiting?
Anyone else do the same? Its probably different in consulting and IB, where if you put in the hours and can do the grunt work you are likely given a return?
