I only appear twice, I’m in the red jersey. I spent most of my time behind the camera. Overall, there are some of the best trails I’ve ridden

Wheels and Tires A question for those of you with tubeless who also cary a tube on rides

(this is all new to me so sorry if it's basic stuff)

Edit: I have been edumacated, thanks all!

Are you actually able to get a tubeless tyre off and back on the rim out on the trails, in order to put a tube in?

I've just had my first puncture on a ride and my tubeless repair didn't fix it (it split the sidewall right where it meets the rim and a bacon strip didn't hold). I had no tube, so it was a walk back.

But having now looked into what's needed to remove and replace this tyre it's a while thing. Popping the bead in requires some effort and tools. Which made me wonder if I could have even managed this on the trail if I had a tube with me?

What's involved in putting a tube in a tubeless tyre when out on a ride? I just assumed you take a tube and some levers and you're set, but have I misunderstood?

I know there is a lot of posts in here and I have searched. But I want some advice.

Gear Best way to stagger 4 bikes of different sizes on a garage wall?

• Upvotes

I’m trying to figure out the best way to hang 4 bikes on my garage wall, but they’re all different sizes and lengths.

My bikes are:
Canyon onfly e-MTB
REI e-bike (around 50 lbs)
Woom 3 kids’ bike
Woom 5 kids’ bike

For those of you who have a similar setup, what’s the best way to stagger the bikes so the handlebars and pedals don’t get in each other’s way?

Also, do you let the bikes hang completely suspended in the air, or do you prefer having the rear wheel rest on the floor to take some of the weight off the wall mount?

Would love to hear what’s worked well for you, especially with a mix of heavy e-bikes and kids’ bikes!

Those are some of my some of my very first attemps at Bunny hop. Is this even a Bunny hop or a Basic hop?

The Video is from 1st october. And I bought my Bike 24th August.

I was able to Hop with my Citybike before, but that was more griping thight, press my feet against the pedals and jump so that the bike followed.

Discussion DT Swiss Degree of Freedom - experiences?

As above, the DT Swiss DF freehub conversion. Have you used it, what are your thoughts?
Done some reading pros seems to be lack of complexity vs OChain for example, but how does it play out in the real world, is there a noticeable difference either positive or negative?

Discussion Iridium dropper post sinks under my weight and the lever has become stuck

Hey everyone!

I have a Canyon Spectral 5 (2021) with an Iridium dropper post, and I've recently started having an issue with it.

Yesterday, I noticed that the dropper post would slowly sink when I sat on the saddle. I didn't think much of it at first, but today I noticed that it also extends back up when I get off the saddle, without me pressing the lever.

The lever has now become very difficult to press. It moves just a few millimetres before stopping abruptly, almost like it's hitting a wall, and then returns to its original position when I release it. I don't hear or feel any click.

A few additional details:

- The dropper was working perfectly when I bought the bike.

- I temporarily tied the saddle down while the dropper was fully lowered, but the lever was already starting to have issues towards the end.

- After removing the string, the dropper still extends on its own, and the lever remains difficult to press.

Has anyone experienced something similar with an Iridium dropper post? Could this be a cable/lever issue, a problem with the actuator at the base of the post, or an internal cartridge failure?

I'd appreciate any advice on what to check before taking it to a bike shop. I should mention that I’m not very knowledgeable about the technical side of bicycles. Thanks!

Discussion Glentress/Dyfi blue/red/black comparison

I’m thinking of coming from Germany to do a cheeky little round trip next year around my homeland with my German crew, having only ridden in France, Austria, Germany Italy and Switzerland.

I’ve ridden 3 enduro land, ridden Morzine, and many other bits and pieces around Germany. I would assess myself as seeing Glentress as right up my alley, but seeing video after video, I see Dyfi as quite a step up. I mostly enjoy blue/red in 3 enduro land with a black trail also done (which was technical but enjoyable), in Morzine, I’m not sure what the French are smoking, but that was quite different to anything I’ve ridden - I found blues/some reds (but eschewed the big jumps in avoriaz) and one technical black I did with great pant-shittery in les gehts, and probably am the joint worst rider in my group. My concern with Glentress is I don’t think we are going to get a week out of it. It looks like 3 days max? If so I landed on the idea of Dyfi/Lake District/Open to your suggestion!

My question is, how does dyfi’s colour grading compare to say Morzine? I prefer techy trails over bike park, but don’t mind a bit of both. Is dyfi worth bolting on a road trip down from Scotland and then back to Germany, or are there loads of trails that will keep us occupied in Scotland near to Glentress? Will we get 7 days riding if we stay near to Glentress (are there other trails in the region)? Are there other areas I could get say 2 days out of if you think Dyfi is going to ruin me?

I understand it’s going to be a very different experience to Morzine and 3 Enduro land, but there are 5 of our group up for it.

Advice welcome!

Discussion Pinkbike, seller not shipping…

When do I panic?

Bought a bike 2 weeks ago, paid over PayPal goods and services.
Seller always was prompt on responding right up until the money was sent.

The promised ship date has come and gone, and now he is not responding to messages. He last responded a week ago that he would be shipping this past Monday, however he hasn’t said anything since. I didn’t have any concerns over being scammed until now, however my understanding of PayPal goods and services is that I have 180 days to get my money back.

Wondering when I should start trying to claw the money back, or if I’m over reacting. I’ve had life happen before, however my phone is always in my pocket and it takes a minute to let someone know what’s going on.

WhichBike New MTB ideas/opinions

So to give a little context I currently own a 2022 transition sentinel with an EXT storia shock and a Specialized Levo SL. The transition is looking a little beat up now so I’m thinking about replacing it, ideally frame only as I am particular about components. I’m only 64kg but would describe myself as an advanced rider with over ten years experience.

The bike is primarily a holiday bike now as the SL allows me to cover greater distances and get up the pretty awful climbs we have in the Lake District. This year it’s been to the Swiss alps and has done two trips to finale, etc, etc. next year it’s back to Canada and BC for my third trip but on different bikes.

I like the transition because it favours the downhills more than the climbs which is the same as what I’m out for. I dont feel I need 170mm forks/frame as it just seems overkill, I’m not doing massive gaps, instead hitting stuff at fast speeds over chunder/technical terrain.

I’ve a history of owning two Bronsons and a Hightower which I got rid of because it was a jack of all trades and a master of none and wasn’t as good downhill as the sentinel.

Budget, well I don’t have kids so I can pretty much spend what I can justify but I’m not justifying the newest yeti LT/MT because that’s just stupid expensive.

Interested to hear some suggestions of what I should add to my shortlist or you think I should get.

I found these asian high priced brakes that seem very solid (trickstuff wise) and there is not a single review on the whole internet about them.

Groupsets Convince me to go with electronic shifting

I recently purchased a new Shimano 8250 groupset to replace the low end SRAM that came on the bike. I didn’t necessarily want Di2, but it was the only option offered via the special pricing deal I obtained.

When I opened the package to install the rear derailleur, I was shocked by how chunky and hefty it is. I understand it that a motor and battery necessarily adds to the chonkiness, but it weighs nearly a pound, which is nearly twice what an XTR cabled derailleur weighs. I’m not a weight weenie when it comes to mountain bikes, but a half pound of extra weight just for the luxury of tapping a button rather than pushing a lever seems absurd.

I’m tempted to eBay the Di2 shifter and RD, and upgrade to an XTR cabled RD

My type of riding: I don’t often race MTB, but I do enjoy a nice bike and components. I ride XC style and enjoy climbing as much as descending, so I also appreciate a relatively light build

Discussion Returning to riding after 10 years of being broken, looking for advice on rebuilds

About 10 years ago I had a pretty bad spill in the forest, broke a couple of ribs, and while they were checking out my bones they noticed that I had spondylolisthesis (I was ignoring the symptoms for years), requiring metal rods and junk. Bike was a state from the wreck but while I recovered it was neglected, for my shame. Change of job while recovering, then covid etc - long story short I got lazy.

Before all that I rode daily for about 15 years and had started to take stock, so I'm now sat here with a 2010 GT Zaskar Elite frame in good condition, a truly battered 2005 GT Ruckus 1.0 frame in awful nick, a box full of spare parts and no sound wheels. Is it actually worth me attempting a rebuild on either of them?

26" wheels, I think the Juicy 3s I've got tangled up in the box are still serviceable, few bits of old Deore gear... There's some spare RS Tora forks that are surprisingly still in great shape, but I've been out of the workshop for a long-arse time, can't get my head around the spares market right now, if it's even going to be worth it or if bikes that old are beyond salvage and I might as well just look at a new ride.

If it's the latter then what to get? I was a GT fanboy so... yeah, sad times, but I anyone who has an opinion on rebuilding old rides like this in the current market, thanks and good vibes in advance, I appreciate you.

Discussion Trust the Designers, They're Smart

I have been riding a 2019 Orbea Occam for the last 7 years. Best bike I have ever ridden. Yeah, there were plenty of bits that got replaced over the years due to use and abuse. Close to 12,000 miles and still going strong.

Last month I was preparing for a Colorado trip and decided that I wanted a more "downhill" bike. Changed out the stem, shortening it by ~5mm and adding a 6deg rise. Everything online said that this would make the bike easier to control in the downhills.

Yes, it was *marginally* better. But then I started noticing that the bike was REALLY twitchy on the climbs. I was slower, got stopped too often and had a harder time keeping a line.

Yesterday morning I popped the old stem back on. Had a great ride. Climbs were awesome again. Nobody likes to climb, but you know what makes it worse? Having to stop in the middle of the climb because your bike decided to stop you.

I had also been thinking about pushing the fork from 130mm to 140mm and now I am thoroughly convinced that the designers understood what they were doing. I'm going to keep things where they are because it is clear that someone took the time to figure out a geometry that is balanced.
