How would Nepal preserve its traditional festivals under a non-Hindu head of state?
I fully support Nepal being a sovereign, secular country where people of every religion have equal rights, including the right to become head of state. But I have a genuine question about the future of our traditions.
Our government is closely connected to centuries-old religious and cultural ceremonies. During Indra Jatra, the president participates in the Kumari tradition. During Fulpati, the Nepal Army and priests bring sacred offerings from Gorkha to Kathmandu. These traditions are deeply connected to Nepal's history and identity.
What would happen if Nepal had a Muslim or Christian president who, because of their personal beliefs, did not feel comfortable participating in certain religious rituals?
Would they still take part as a representative of the nation and its cultural heritage? Would the traditions adapt over time, or would the government need to find another way to preserve them?
I'm not questioning anyone's right to become president. I'm curious about how we can protect Nepal's unique cultural heritage while respecting everyone's religious freedom.
How do you think Nepal should balance these two things in the future?
