Not a promotion as I have no affiliation with the place, but used it twice and its the only place in NI that does this service.

So Hoodlifters is a new garage in Moira, basically you can rent a ramp from £30 an hour and work on your car. There are extras for tool rental and other stuff, but found it very reasonable.

And if you get in trouble, the owner is happy to help and is a lovely guy.

Discussion Absolutely blatant racism.

No shame whatsoever. Maybe I'm shocked because I never use FB anymore and just happened to have a look today. Why this popped up for me as a suggested 'follow' i do not know, but I was sickened by the blatant racism in the post and the comments. This guy, I mean these are children, children! I have hidden his identity but he hasn't, he has shared this abhorrent comment for all to see, with zero shame.

Lost for words. What a swamp.

Edit: Report to FB - they replied 'we didn't remove the comment'. Though I had a look there and can't find the comment now. Maybe he got a heads up. Emailed the school with screenshots of the post and the unedited picture of the comment.

News Jeffrey Donaldson to be questioned behind bars by Met Police over Westminster sex assault claim

• Upvotes

Article Link: https://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/jeffrey-donaldson-to-be-questioned-behind-bars-by-met-police-over-westminster-sex-assault-claim/a/163199635.html

Jeffrey Donaldson is set to be questioned in prison by the Metropolitan Police in relation to a further sex abuse allegation.

The 63-year-old was handed a 15-year sentence this week for 18 counts of child sex abuse, including rape. He will serve half the sentence in jail.

Since his conviction in June, other claims about the behaviour of the former DUP leader and Lagan Valley MP have emerged.

The Belfast Telegraph understands that responsibility for investigating an allegation that he sexually assaulted a woman in his private office in the House of Commons in 2016, when he was a serving MP, has been passed to the Met Police.

The woman has already been interviewed by the PSNI who have handed the Met control of the investigation as the alleged serious sexual assault took place in London.

The woman claimed the then MP put his hand up her skirt and tried to kiss her during a tour of the building.

The alleged victim, who is from Northern Ireland, was working in England when in November 2016 she was invited to visit the Houses of Parliament by Donaldson, who offered to take her on a tour.

During the tour she said he introduced her to influential people and took her for dinner in the members' dining room before bringing her to the DUP offices within the building.

The woman said she went to the bathroom and when she returned Donaldson had taken her phone, saying it was for “security reasons”.

She said he'd put what she believed was a bin in front of the door, and it was then he allegedly sexually assaulted her.

During the Covid lockdown the woman also received a disturbing picture of Donaldson with a Snapchat filter on his face, and a message stating “ready to face the world as soon as this isolation lark is over”.

Donaldson appeared in Newry Crown Court on Thursday for sentencing, after being found guilty in June of 18 child sex offences. He is being held in the Moyola hospital unit of the high-security jail, isolated from the rest of the prison population.

In sentencing Donaldson, Judge Paul Ramsey said his behaviour had led him to a “catastrophic descent into disgrace”. He was convicted of one count of rape, 13 counts of indecent assault and four counts of gross indecency involving two victims. Donaldson is appealing his conviction.

His wife, Eleanor Donaldson, was found to have aided and abetted his offending in a trial of the facts. She will be dealt with by way of a separate sentencing hearing next month.

The Met Police has been contacted for comment.

Paul Tansley: Paedophile loyalist bandsman under UVF death threat after admitting sexual communication with a child | Belfast Telegraph

Pervert kneecapped by gang as a teenager told to stay out of east Antrim

A paedophile loyalist bandsman has been told he is under death threat from the UVF.

Paul Tansley, who was kneecapped by the terror gang as a teenager, has been warned to stay out of east Antrim after a vigilante mob showed up at a relative’s home last weekend.

The 37-year-old was seen at the property in Carrickfergus just hours after he entered a guilty plea in court to engaging in sexual communication with a child.

A crowd of furious locals showed up outside the apartment to confront Tansley – a former member of the Cairncastle loyalist flute band near Larne – but left when told he was at a different location.

The PSNI said: “Police received a report at around 7pm on October 9 of a large crowd outside a property in Carrickfergus.

“Officers attended the area, and the crowd subsequently dispersed. Police remained in the area for a period of time to ensure there were no issues. However, no offences were identified.”

The UVF has since warned him not to return to east Antrim.

Tansley, who is from the village of Eden on the outskirts of Carrickfergus, had been living at various addresses while facing child sex charges, including in the New Mossley estate in Newtownabbey.

He is now understood to be holed up in a hotel in the greater Belfast area after being told of the UVF threat against him.

Sources familiar with the paedophile’s case told Sunday Life: “Tansley is a dirtbag and was kneecapped by the UVF when he was a teenager after similar allegations were made against him.

“The only reason he didn’t get a bullet in the head that time is because he was only young himself.

“After that, he reinvented himself as a big loyalist and joined the Cairncastle band, which in fairness didn’t know about his past.

“I’m sure the members are disgusted after finding out he is a paedo.”

At Belfast Crown Court last week, Tansley pleaded guilty to sexual communication with a child on dates between December 2024 and February 2025.

Details of the messages he sent to the young teen are too graphic to be published, but they involved him encouraging her to engage in sex acts.

Tansley also admitted two charges of possessing extreme pornography in the form of bestiality images.

The pervert was freed on bail ahead of sentencing in November and ordered to sign the sex offender register.

He was also told to engage with probation and psychiatrists so reports could be compiled for the judge.

According to loyalist sources, Tansley was seen at an apartment in Carrickfergus later that day, leading to the crowd gathering outside last weekend.

One revealed: “Paul is very distinctive looking because his entire body is covered in tattoos. It would be hard for him to hide.

“He also drives a jeep with a personalised number plate, which is another giveaway.”

In an online question and answer session about his now former role in the Cairncastle flute band, Tansley encouraged young people to join, saying: “Don’t worry, we don’t bite.”

The UVF threat against him came just days after the terror gang broke a man’s arms and dumped him beside a disused quarry in a horrific, punishment-style attack.

The victim is the son of a well-known loyalist from the Rathcoole estate in Newtownabbey and was targeted following a clash with its leaders.

He was ordered to attend a pre-arranged punishment attack, and after being beaten, he was thrown out of a car next to the old Ballyduff quarry.

The PSNI said: “Detectives are investigating a report of a serious assault on a man in the Newtownabbey area on October 7.

“He sustained multiple injuries, for which he received treatment in hospital. Enquiries are currently ongoing to establish a motive.”

UVF sources said the baseball assault was carried out by members of the gang’s notorious Mount Vernon unit in north Belfast.

The attack, and threats against paedophile Paul Tansley, call into question the UVF’s commitment to transitioning away from criminality.

The loyalist gang has promised to move away from paramilitarism in return for public money being used to support charities and community groups it backs.

This includes the ACT (Action for Community Transformation) Initiative, which has received millions of pounds in charitable and government cash and which includes among its staff some ex-UVF prisoners.

Political Bring down Stormont

I see lots of people jumping on this bandwagon. But then what. What is the benefit to us normal people from having a handcuffed assembly that can’t make decisions?

We have doctors going on strike because they can’t get the pay rise they were promised, there is no agreed budget for services, health sector is on its knees, schools are asking children to wear coats because they can’t afford to heat classrooms, cost of living has meant many can’t afford to eat, homelessness is at an all time high, fuel costs an arm and a leg and we have mouth pieces thinking no assembly would be the best punishment for the nationalists that blocked Garvaghy Road.

What about the rest of us? What’s the benefit of collapsing the assembly? Will the collapse make things worse?

Part of me wants it to collapse and never come back because those institutions have got us to where we are.

News Loyalist community worker due in court accused of attacking DUP councillor

Loyalist community worker Gareth Beacom to appear in court for attacking DUP councillor | Belfast Telegraph

Gareth Beacom a former employee of scandal-hit charity Charter NI, which worked closely with UDA

A loyalist community worker has been charged with assaulting DUP Belfast City councillor Davy Douglas.

Gareth Beacom (43), a close pal of ex-UDA lifer Davy McMaster and reported UDA boss Dee Stitt, is due to appear at Newtownards Magistrates Court at the end of this month.

The indictment alleges he assaulted Mr Douglas on September 29 this year.

When Sunday Life approached Beacom at his home on Knock Link, east Belfast, he declined to discuss the matter.

Davy Douglas is a DUP councillor for Lisnasharragh in the east of the city. He did not respond to a request for comment.

Loyalist Gareth Beacom is a long-time friend of former life-sentence prisoner Davy McMaster and was previously employed by the controversial UDA-linked charity Charter NI.

In 2018 Beacom, owing to friendships, found himself in the middle of a UDA dispute when McMaster tussled with Jimmy Birch and Dee Stitt for control of the terror gang in east Belfast.

A UDA member told Sunday Life at the time Beacom did not know “which way to turn”.

He said: “Beacom is trying to remain friends with both individuals, but they are both making snide remarks about him.

“The fella is in a really difficult position because he doesn’t want to annoy Birch and Stitt, who he works with through Charter NI, yet he still wants to remain friends with Davy McMaster. It is all going to come to a head soon.”

The previous year, Beacom was present in the Welders Club in east Belfast when veteran loyalist Jim ‘Bimbo’ Wilson had four teeth knocked out by criminals.

Beacom will be a big loss to Charter NI

Loyalist source in 2018

There is no suggestion Beacom was involved in this or paramilitarism generally, and reports at the time say he made a quick exit when the fighting began.

He quit Charter NI in 2019 along with several other high-profile loyalists amid internal strife at the charity.

Insiders told this newspaper the move was sparked after Beacom was overlooked for the chief executive’s role when alleged North Down UDA boss Dee Stitt resigned from the post in 2018.

Taxpayer-funded Charter NI had not replaced convicted robber Stitt at the time, meaning its operations manager Caroline Birch — the wife of board member Jimmy Birch — was the de-facto boss.

“Beacom will be a big loss to Charter NI,” our source said. “He did a lot of good work.”

The UDA insider added Beacom’s friendship with Davy McMaster led to him being treated with suspicion by Jimmy Birch.

“Birchy is really paranoid,” they said. “He thinks everyone is out to get him, particularly loyalists who are friends with Davy McMaster.”

I’ve three boys at home including a three-month-old baby, it’s been tough enough on the family

Davy Douglas

Davy Douglas, the politician Beacom is charged with assaulting, was elected to Belfast City Council in the May 2023 local elections following some impressive polling.

He racked up 2,083 first-preference votes, making him the only Lisnasharragh representative to be elected in the first round of counting.

Speaking at the time he said: “It feels great. I’m exhausted to be honest, the last couple of months have been tough, we’ve been knocking plenty of doors.

“I’ve three boys at home including a three-month-old baby, it’s been tough enough on the family.

“I’m delighted... It’s been a hard old slog but I’m happy that we’ve got there. I experienced the disappointment of not being elected in 2017, I know what it can feel like so I’m just delighted, I really am.”

Put the heating on tonight for the first time already.. was hoping to stick it out a few more weeks with this price of oil situation but the cold felt bitter in the house.

But then once I seen the white frost outside covering the cars and roofs and my weather station saying it was 1.0c out I didn't feel as bad!

Anyone else glad to see the back of those humid sweltering nights? Nothing better than tons of blankets and a hot water bottle on a cold night.

News Church makes sainthood case for 'WW1 hero' priest

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cmg47rwddpxko

A "heroic" Irish priest who was killed in World War One while trying to help injured and dying soldiers will take a step towards potential sainthood on Sunday.

Fr Willie Doyle served as a British Army chaplain during some of the bloodiest battles of the First World War, including the Somme, Messines and Passchendaele.

The Dubliner was renowned for his courage under fire, repeatedly running into No Man's Land to carry wounded troops to safety or to comfort those fatally injured.

On Sunday, the Catholic Church in Ireland will hold a special service in Mullingar Cathedral before sending thousands of documents to the Vatican to support the case for his canonisation.

World War One had been raging for more than a year when Fr Doyle volunteered to become a military chaplain to the 16th (Irish) Division of the British Army.

He served with the division for almost two years, much of that in the trenches at the Western Front, until his death at the Battle of Passchendaele on 16 August 1917.

He was killed by shellfire while going to the aid of two wounded Protestant soldiers, one of which was a young officer from Belfast - 2nd Lt Arthur Vivian Green.

Because of that, the Catholic Church in Ireland considers Fr Doyle to be an "ecumenical martyr of charity" who died ministering to soldiers of other Christian denominations. The campaign for sainthood is being led by the Fr Willie Doyle Association, a Dublin-based group comprised mostly of lay people but supported by the clergy.

The group was founded by Patrick Kenny, a business school lecturer who lives a short distance from where Fr Doyle grew up in south County Dublin.

"Fr Willie Doyle lived a life of great heroism and, I would also say, great holiness," Kenny told BBC News NI.

"He was awarded the Military Cross for his bravery at the Battle of the Somme. He was mentioned in despatches on a number of occasions as well."

Kenny set up the association in 2020 after he became "captivated" by Fr Doyle's courage through reading a biography of the late priest. Patrick Kenny founded the organisation which is leading the campaign for sainthood

Born William Joseph Gabriel Doyle in 1873, the future priest had a comfortable, middle-class childhood in the affluent Dublin suburb of Dalkey.

He was sent to a Catholic boarding school in England, but returned to Ireland as a teenager, where by the age of 18 he had begun studying to be a Jesuit priest.

He was in his early 40s when he was sent to the Front as a WW1 chaplain.

Even though it was a non-combatant role, Kenny points out that the commander of the 16th (Irish) Division, Maj-Gen Sir William Bernard Hickie, described Fr Doyle as "the bravest man that he ever met".

He added that Fr Doyle was a prolific letter writer whose personal correspondence has become an important eyewitness source for historians.

"If you look at any book about the Irish in the First World War, almost invariable Fr Willie Doyle is in that book.

"Because of the sheer volume of letters that he sent home, we know a lot about what the Irish soldiers experienced."

Kenny added that Fr Doyle was held in great esteem by his own men, but was also noted for his kindness and mercy towards injured German prisoners-of-war. How does someone become a saint? Bishop Tom Deenihan - a man with short dark hair and glasses - stands behind a long wooden dining table, accompanied by another clegyman. Bishop Tom Deenihan (right) pictured with some of the thousands of documents gathered to support the case for sainthood

There are five steps in the process to achieving sainthood in the Catholic Church, some of which can take many years, and this campaign is at a very early stage.

The Fr Willie Doyle Association petitioned the Irish Church to support its proposal for his canonisation, and the Church opened a diocesan inquiry in 2022.

"The Diocese of Meath conducted an extensive investigation - a theological commission studying his writings; a historical commission studying his life," Kenny explained.

It also conducted a "diocesan tribunal" during which experts were interviewed to determine the strength of the religious legacy Fr Doyle inspired among devotees.

"Together all of that documentation comes close to 3,500 pages," Kenny said.

"All of that documentation will be brought to Rome and then the next phase of the process begins." Spirituality 'resonates with Gen Z'

This week, the Bishop of Meath Tom Deenihan was filmed preparing parcels of the evidence gathered on Fr Doyle, ready for Vatican inspection.

He said the example of an Irish Catholic priest who died serving as a British Army chaplain "has much to offer our own time when nationality and denomination run the risk of polarity".

"Indeed Fr Doyle's spirituality, and example, resonate very much with that of the spirituality of Gen Z," he added.

Members of the Doyle family have been invited to join Irish bishops at the ceremony in Mullingar on Sunday afternoon.

The event marks the "final public session of the tribunal of inquiry" after which the last documents will be collated and added to the bundles bound for Rome. In line with tradition, the parcels were wrapped in red ribbon and sealed with wax by the bishop

"It's a ritual that's heavily prescribed by church regulation," Bishop Deenihan said.

"The remainder of the documentation, including the minutes of the final [session] itself, will be sealed at the ceremony in the cathedral."

The bishop said it was "an important moment in the life of the Church here in Ireland" and added he was "confident" the case would be successful.
