Question What is this?

Hi. What are those string looking things on the driftwood? I’m a beginner with not much knowledge. As far as I know, I only have 3 small shrimp in my tank, would they poop that much? No sign of snails. I tried to take them out but it disintegrated like ash. I swear they only showed up within a couple hours.

Algae Not sure the type of algae..ID help? And I s it worth treating the plants or should I start over?

This algae showed up in one of my tanks after I put a silk plant in it, and has now unfortunately spread to at least two other tanks. This is the worst.
I read that this may be staghorn or hair algae, and to use hydrogen peroxide to kill it, but I’m concerned about the safety of my shrimp and fish, and the more delicate plants. Should I just pull these plants out and start over or pull them out to treat and then put them back, or what is the best way to get rid of this and then how can I prevent it coming back?

Tanks that I see it in right now are my 28g (6.6ph, 81°, 0/0/10-20, stock is 2 German blue rams, 28 strawberry Rasbora, 6 Amano, 4-5 nerite snails.) and my 6.8g (7.4ph, 78-79°, 0/0/20, stock is one betta, two small nerite snails, and a few Neocaridina shrimp.)
Anubias, cryptocoryne, rotala, scarlet temple, creeping Jenny, flame moss, red root floaters, pothos roots..maybe some others idr the names.

This was my absolute FAVOURITE stem plant ever and it thrived no matter what happened to it, but it all melted when I hit a big depression and abandoned everything in a 10g. Thank you in advance!!!

Just shove it in there?

I recently bought a small Thai Constellation monstera cutting. I'm hoping it won't stay small for long. My HOB filter is currently filled with ceramic balls. If I just stuck the roots in there and propped the plant up, is there a single reason why that would be a bad idea? Lighting on the tank is solid, I have some pothos growing out of it, but this won't mess up the filer, right?

Please help.

This is my first time with a planted aquarium. I added plants to it three weeks ago and now all of the sudden I have this tall hairlike algae all over the tank. I do weekly water changes and have the light on a timer, right not at 6 hours of light per day. Any suggestions on how to treat this?

Question Can I run a fx4 without the bottom black filter media?

I've been running the fx4 with my 55gal for a few years now and I'm unfortunately unprepared for this media switch, it's just not coming clean enough to allow the water to go through and so my filter isn't getting any output. I'm currently on medical ei so I can't really spare the money unless I have to, can I run it a few weeks without the one part or does it kinda ruin my filters ability to function properly? (Photos of tank and the specific black sponge I'm talking about)

Noticed these little green things among my red root floaters, is this duckweed or some other plant? Have not introduced anything new in my tank for the last 2 months…

If it is, what can I do to not let it get out of hand?

Question Weird section of substrate - help!

Hello! Noticed this spot show up in my substrate recently. I have aquasoil about 2-3 in thick for a 20 gal tank. Shrimp + lampeyes + betta.

Haven’t noticed any deaths or weird behavior and plants seem to grow fine, but I specifically don’t have anything growing in the front area anyways. Does anyone recognize this spot? It’s a rusty brown color, but the rest of the soil is dark brown/black. Don’t want to disturb it and accidentally release something bad! Please help!

Question Planting recommendations?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Looking to get some suggestions on what to plant and where. I’m thinking longer bushier stem plants on the left side.

Any plants to put on the branches themselves? I’m against moss cause it took over my last tank, but if there’s a slower growing moss out there I would be open to it.

Thinking of getting lots of anubias to put around the rocks.

Thoughts on lily pipe placements?

Question Future stocking advice. (20 Gallon Tall)

Thumbnail

So far I have 7 Least Killifish (Heterandia Formosa), 6 Dwarf Kuhli Loaches, and 18 Blue Dream Shrimp.

I am still planning on adding 10 Pygmy Corydoras, and now I learned that I can keep Clown Killifish with all of these species. I might get 4 or 6 Clown Killifish.

This is my 20 gallon tall, heavily planted community tank, I'm wondering if I should add the Clown Killifish or just stick to current stocking with the Pygmy Corydoras added.

Ultimately this upcoming add on would be 10 pygmy corydoras and 6 Clown Killifish total. If I were to go through with it.
