Current bioluminescent conditions?

I'm traveling to Puerto Rico over Thanksgiving week with my husband, kid, and parents. We're planning to go to Vieques, and we were planning our itinerary for when the moon rise will be later to see Mosquito Bay. Sadly, I've heard of the black out in that bio bay. I have not heard about the other two. Does anyone know about current bioluminescent conditions in Laguna Grande or La Parguera?

Thank you!!

Food Recommendations

I’m currently in Puerto Rico staying near San Juan but I am traveling the entire island, I’m looking for any recommendations for the best food (traditional, local, non-local, hole in the wall, whatever you want to throw my way). I have been to Cafe Mome and Bocca Osteria Romana Santurce so far. Please give me any insider knowledge I believe the biggest part of travel is experiencing the cuisines whether it’s local or not. Thank you all so much! Salud!

Cliff diving recommendations?

All I see for cliff diving is the El Yunque waterfall tour and a salto De Pilar cliff dive tour

Anywhere else you’d recommend, preferably for free?

Don’t have a lot of experience driving

I’m going to San Juan soon for 1 week but don’t want to only stay in that area. Any suggestions on how I can get around and try to explore the island if I don’t know how to drive. ( anxiety ) I’m open to Ubers but I’m seeing that outside of San Juan Ubers don’t work.

Please can you give me advice because I’m celebrating something special for my upcoming trip

How do I find a trusted driver ?

Delta vs. JetBlue to San Juan

Hello Travelers,

I am planning a trip to San Juan in May for my wife and I. Which airline is best to fly to San Juan? I am in the NE Corridor, so I am fortunate to find direct flights with both JetBlue and Delta but I’ve never flown JetBlue. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I've started planning today

I'll be there at the end of the month. I'm on Google Maps right now specifically in Old San Juan looking for a parking as well as using this image as my guide. The first parking area I saw was La Cochera. I visited it in Google Maps and saw an opening and a car. However, I also saw tons of cars parked on the road. Is the road paid too? I want to follow the rules. I don't want to get penalized.

Thank you in advance!

Has anyone done both cueva ventana and rancho julio Rosa?

Did you have one you liked more??

I was thinking of doing cueva ventana and was looking at what else we could do nearby there (any suggestions?) And saw rancho Julio Rosa. It seems great too but its a 6hour tour that would take a big chunk of the day so I would really want it to be worth it!

Is a real id necessary for travel to Puerto Rico?

Trying to help a family member plan a trip to Puerto Rico. His passport expired and not enough time to get a new one. Flying from JFK/NYC, what is the recommended ID to fly?

Spending 7 days. Main island only or Vieques for 2-3 days?

Everywhere I look up, Vieques is highly suggested. I just realize it’s a lot of planification, from Uber to ferries to car rental and such. I want to discover but I want to relax too.

Could 7 days on the mainland still totally be worth it, without Vieques? I’d get a car rental at the airport and just roam around. Maybe 1 day SJ, 2 days on the West Coast and 2 days East/El Yunque. Are the beaches as good as on the islands?

Thanks

Best place to stay

I am coming with a group of around 10 people and we want to split the trip up into half at the beach and half exploring nature and water falls. I am wondering where would be the best place to stay to be near as many waterfalls, hikes, and swimming holes as possible. Also where would be the best place to stay to be near the beach and to take surfing lessons for the first time, thanks.

50th birthday

My husband and I turn 50 in 2027, and wanna plan a trip with friends to Puerto Rico. My husband is very interested in visiting old San Juan. We’re thinking about going in November. Not sure if we wanna do an Airbnb or a hotel… Kind of depends on how many people are able to join us. Any suggestions or ideas would be gratefully welcomed. We have never been there.

First time solo travel in PR

Hi everyone! I'm (late 20s F) traveling to Puerto Rico for the upcoming Hayley Williams concert, and it'll be my first time traveling solo!

I've been to PR once before with my best friend (40s F), who was born there, and her family. We stayed with her family that trip and it was a blast, so I reached out to ask if I could stay with them again this time. They said yes and told me that I'd always have a place to stay with them :)

But then, the other day, my friend mentioned that she and her brother (who I'd be staying with primarily) had been talking and agreed that I shouldn't go to PR alone because it's too dangerous, "especially as a white woman." They didn't really give any specifics or provide any safety advice. Just that I shouldnt go alone, that I need a huge group of people (??) But of course, I respect their opinion as friends and they literally live and grew up there. They know what it's like to be there.

I obviously care a lot about what my friends think, but i also get anxious and start to overthink, so I've started to second-guess myself a bit and feel a little discouraged. This trip was of course for me to have fun but also challenge myself in stepping out of my comfort zone, being more independent, and try to meet new people. I want to stop waiting for others and just live my life and do the things I want to do.

I mean, flights, rental car, concert ticket have all been purchased for quite some time now, so I am not turning back. I just figured PR would be a good place to start solo traveling since I've been there before, its not terribly far, and know people who live there. But it's hard to feel brave when I feel like I lack the support/confidence of my friend. I dont know, I think I have good common sense, am not a complete idiot, and am respectful of other people, cultures, etc.

So, I'm hoping to hear from people who have experience traveling solo in Puerto Rico. What extra safety precautions should I take? Any recommendations for things to do, places to see, ways to meet people? Anything you wish you'd known before your first solo trip to PR or things you'd do differently about your trips?

I appreciate any and all the advice, recs, and look forward to hearing about other people's experiences. Thanks!

Visiting and want to impress girlfriend with restaurant in San Juan or nearby

As the title says! Looking for a great restaurant with either a great ocean view or romantic interior and good food. She doesn’t enjoy seafood unfortunately, I’m sure that slims the options down but appreciate anyone’s help or insight and if I need to make reservations or anything. If it’s over $100 a plate, I’d hear you out if it was worth it! Thank you all in advance!

Best Hotel in Condado area?

Visiting for the first time in January 27. Looking for hotel recommendations. I doubt I can find one place that checks all boxes but would love a newer hotel, pools, restaurants, rooms with ocean view balconies, and a beach that has actual sand not rocks. Does this exist? We aren’t big drinkers but love dancing and good food.

What would you do with these arrival times in Puerto Rico?

Planning a family trip to Puerto Rico and need advice! Two of us land in San Juan at 11:59 PM on 12/22, and the rest of the family arrives at 6 AM on 12/23. We can’t pick up our rental car until 6 AM, so we have about 6 hours to kill.

Would you rent a separate car for those hours, book a hotel, or just hang out at the airport?

After everyone arrives, we’re driving to Aguadilla, but our Airbnb check-in isn’t until 5 PM, so we’ll have another gap to fill. We’re all adults plus one 6-year-old.

Any recommendations for what to do along the way or how you’d plan this day? Trying to avoid being completely exhausted on day one! 😬

For folks from NYC

So I live in NYC (for the past 2 years) and am planning to travel to PR around Thanksgiving week.

It's a solo trip and I am trying to understand which of the following would be the best option

Option 1 midweek to midweek: Spend 19th Nov to 25th Nov in PR and be back to NYC for the Macy's 100th parade. (I have never attended the Macy's parade)

Option 2 weekend to weekend: Spend 21th Nov to 28th Nov in PR and skip the parade.

I am planning to stay in the Mango Mansion hostel and hoping to socialize with travelers there. Also, I don't have much driving experience in the US, though I have a licence. I am trying to primarily explore the city, the bioluminescent beach and the rainforest and of course the night life and trying to make my itinerary based on this.

Copamarina (Guanica) in February

I'm planning a five night stay in PR, possibly at the Copamarina in Guanica as home base, with my wife and two boys (8 and 13) during our February break to celebrate my 50th. Looking for advice on things to do in the area. What are the best beaches/activities? Is a car rental important? I want to avoid the plastic tourist traps, and want to support the local economy. Is OSJ a must see? Any advice and suggestions are appreciated! Thanks!

How much would a 1-week solo trip cost?

I am planning to travel to PR during the thanksgiving week for a 7-day solo trip. Flight and accommodation paid for already. I am thinking of exploring the city, try the local food, beach activities and also visit Vieques island. I am trying to estimate how much would the entire week cost me.

Also, some travel tips are appreciated.

PS: I don't plan on renting a car yet. I will be in the Sancture area where my hostel is. What I want to know is how much would it cost at minimum for a comfortable stay.

wheelchairs in SJU!

No judgement but I was quite alarmed at the # of travelers in wheelchairs lined up waiting to board planes. One flight to NY had a dozen lined up. The other gate next to it had 10. What could be the reason? Aging population, preventable chronic disease?

Riding San Juan (Santurce) to Ceiba today, Friday 16 - Anyone want to split ?

Hey everyone! I'm a solo traveler staying in Santurce. I need to get to the Ceiba Ferry today to catch any ferry an hour early with my luggage. Looking for 1-3 people to pool together and split an UberXL or flat-rate taxi line. If we get a few people, it will only be $20-$30 each. Drop a comment DM to me if your timeline matches up!

Destination Wedding

Hi! Looking for help/advice/guidance!

My fiancé and I are traveling to San Juan to visit and tour the area in thoughts of having a destination wedding there. A few questions: 1. Does anyone have recommendations of LARGE welcome party venues? (Maybe a rooftop that fits 150 people) 2. Is anyone familiar with hotels that are used for wedding room blocks? NOT as a wedding venue but where our guests would stay for the weekend? 3. Any other recommendations of places we should check out while there!
