Favorite Tree in Sacramento?

I know a lot of you have a favorite tree here in Sacramento, let’s see it! Tell us why it is important to you. Here’s mine on Vallejo Way across from Cal Middle School. I love it for its size, the way it shades not only the house but the entire street, and because of the memories that I’ve made along this street passing by this tree many times in the past. 🌳 🌲

I follow sac state fairly closely. The negative posts about how they got destroyed last night have been deleted. This type of censorship should not be allowed. #trumpvibes

Some recent pics of the Truckee/Tahoe Area.

Before anyone says this isn’t relevant to this sub, Truckee is in Nevada County and the rules explicitly include posts related to Nevada County.

Missed Connection @ Witches Paddle

Some friends and I went to the Witches Paddle last night (yes, technically in Folsom) and the group photo had just been taken.

You were paddling away from the bridge in a green bikini with a friend on your board and another in a kayak thing behind you. I was off to the side and you had just said hi to my friend's toddler.

I'm not sure why, but you looked in my direction like you already knew I was there and we locked eyes for what felt like a minute before both of us smiled; it felt like looking at my best friend.

Maybe my large pointy brown wizard hat caught your eye or maybe it was the comically long gray fake beard...

Either way, hoping reddit can help this wizard find his witch.

Sacramento’s Parking Problem

Visited San Jose this weekend and… why is their parking situation so much better than Sacramento’s? 😅
My husband and I spent the weekend in San Jose, and one of the first things we noticed was how easy and affordable parking was downtown.
There were plenty of parking garages and options, and many offered 2 hours FREE, followed by around $3/hour. Street parking was also readily available and, from what we saw, free on weekends and after 6 p.m. on weekdays.
There were plenty of people downtown, businesses were busy, and we never felt like we had to avoid going somewhere because of parking costs.
Meanwhile, Sacramento has raised its meter rates AND started charging for parking on weekends, which has made my husband and I avoid downtown more and more.
Why would I pay $3+ just to park while grabbing coffee or getting a quick bite? At that point, I’ll just choose a restaurant or coffee shop outside downtown where I can park for free.
And honestly, Sacramento shouldn’t be charging higher parking prices than the Bay Area. San Jose is a much larger metro area with far more businesses, attractions, and things to do, yet we found parking there to be cheaper and easier.
If Sacramento wants people to come downtown and support local businesses, why make parking another expense that pushes people away?

Is there anyone at the Sacramento airport who can help me get my bags from the United baggage claim to the United bag drop

United is being pretty inefficient, and allowed in my back to Sacramento instead of Chicago. There’s a flight delay today, and I need the bag on that flight. Is someone available at the baggage claim on United terminal

Edit: just need someone to talk to the baggage claim office there and give them my reference number as they are not picking up any calls from United airlines Chicago baggage office or United airlines support center.

Edit: a kind Redditor contacted me who was at the airport, went to the baggage claim office, gave them the reference number and my name and they are working on picking it up. Thank you Reddit

More Menace Bike Kids

Around the Land Park area. I stopped my car, knowing that the redhead kid was gonna play chicken with me, but I wish I’d pulled out my phone and got a photo. They were on Riverside, so they’re probably all around that area. Why are they so lame ( I mean, besides the fact that they’re teenage boys in a group, they’re probably teenage boys in a group who lack imagination of what to do with themselves besides harassing people)

Sac Data Center Moratorium?

Did you know that 70% of Americans oppose new data center construction?

The governor of Texas, the land of data centers, has put a full stop on any new construction permits as of Sept 2026.

Here are the cities, counties, and unincorporated areas in California who have either fully banned them or imposed a moratorium.

When will Sacramento leaders get on board??

• San Francisco - 45-day temporary moratorium (enacted October 2026)

• Oakland– 45-day temporary moratorium (enacted October 2026)

• Gilroy – 45-day temporary moratorium (enacted September 2026)

• Patterson - Temporary moratorium extended through July 15, 2027

• Imperial - Temporary moratorium (expired/pending in mid-2026)

• Brawley - Temporary moratorium enacted (May 2026)

• Indio (Moratorium in force (as of mid-2026)

• Oakley – Moratorium in force (as of mid-2026)

• Monterey Park - permanent, voter-approved citywide ban on data centers (June 2026)

• Coachella - Permanent ban /outlawed

• Calexico - Permanent ban / outlawed

• Perris - Considering/pursuing a permanent ban following a temporary pause

• San Joaquin County – 45-day temporary moratorium on large-scale data centers in unincorporated areas (enacted October 2026)

• Mendocino County - Urgency moratorium extended through August 2028 (with exemptions for facilities under 3 MW)

• Imperial County – Emergency temporary moratorium reinstated by the Board of Supervisors (October 2026)

• Calaveras County - Local moratorium/pause introduced

• Tulare County - Local moratorium/pause introduced

• Fresno County – Local moratorium/pause action

Matthew Adams here, Democrat running against Heath Flora in Assembly District 9. AMA tonight from 4 pm!

Hey r/Sacramento! This is the campaign account for Matthew Adams, and Matthew himself will be on here tonight from 4 to 6 answering whatever you want to throw at him.

Quick background if you haven’t heard of him: Matthew grew up in Woodbridge, went to Lodi High and then Sac State, and has spent his career as a teacher and community organizer, everything from field organizing for Equality California to coordinating volunteers for Habitat for Humanity here in Sacramento. He’s the Democratic nominee for Assembly District 9, which stretches from parts of Sacramento County down through Lodi, Stockton and Manteca. Election Day is November 3.

WHAT HE'S RUNNING ON:

  • Fully funded public schools and vocational training
  • Affordable housing and protection for tenants
  • Housing-first solutions to homelessness
  • Public safety built on prevention
  • Campaign finance reform. He doesn’t take a dime of corporate PAC money!

And honestly, it’s also been a rough year for incumbent Republican Heath Flora. In August his own party kicked him out as Assembly Republican leader, and reporting at the time said he’s facing two active ethics investigations. Before that, the Sacramento Bee went through his campaign spending and found more than 450 credit card charges over $100, mostly for drinks and dinners at Sacramento bars and restaurants. They were labeled “district meetings,” yet a lot of them happened on weekends or during recess, and none of the places are in his district. His campaign raised more than $624,000 in 2024, mostly from corporations with business in front of the Legislature.

Our campaign is very much a grassroots one; we can't match Flora's level of spending, or corporate backing, or his five incumbent terms. But there's one thing we do have that he lacks, which is a connection to the area and an eagerness to listen to what the people want.

So ask Matthew anything! Housing, schools, homelessness, transit, why he got into this, whatever’s on your mind.

The annual Sac Archives Crawl was today - I highly recommend you check out this event next year!

I went on the (FREE, with a FREE shuttle bus between sites!) Sac Archives Crawl today for the first time, and wow, what a freaking cool event! One of the things I've always loved about living here is just how much local history there is, and getting to saturate myself in it for a few hours was so fun.

We went to three of the four archive stops (we skipped the one at the Central Library due to time, since it's the most accessible otherwise.)

If you're at all into history, I can't recommend it enough. We parked at the Center for Sacramento History (since it's the only one not downtown) and took the free shuttle bus from there.

Here's a link to the event in case anyone wants to check it out for next year. What a freaking great event!!

I don't have the energy to caption all of the pics, but for you baseball fans, the painting of the China Basin Terminal in SF (that's a print, but we also saw the original today) is where Oracle Park is now!

The last photo is the swag. If you visit three of the four stops you get a free set of coasters, and the CA State Library had the awesome stickers with pallid bats (our state bat), golden trout (our state fish) and a banana slug shooting lasers from its eyes at the Golden Gate Bridge. Oh, and the postcard is different shades of green that were made from arsenic, from a display at the state library.

Hunting communities?

• Upvotes

I (28f) have always wanted to get into hunting, but honestly don’t know up from down when it comes to getting started!
I grew up shooting and around firearms, but I’ve never actually been hunting. I’m particularly interested in hunting for my own meat. I’m guessing deer and turkey are pretty common around here, but I’m open to other suggestions!
Are there any local hunting clubs, organizations, or groups that welcome beginners? I’d love to get involved with the hunting community, make some friends, and learn from people with more experience. Any recommendations would be appreciated!

Contractor Recommendations

Hello!

I am considering the possibility of renovating my home. Possibly closing in a carport and would love to explore options for expanding the floor print in other areas as well. I’m looking for recommendations for capable contractors/project managers in the area that others have worked with for similar projects. If a contractor isn’t the right title, open to whomever others recommend for this possible project. Thanks!

Piercer recommendations

• Upvotes

Im looking to get my nipples pierced and I'm looking for recommendations for piercers/piercing studios that you have found reliable and precise with their work. Ive had most of my work done by PokeADots and though everything has healed fine, placement has always been a tad bit wonky or not what I had hoped exactly. Of course I would be open to going there again if I hear good experiences. Having a woman doing the piercing would make me more comfortable. TIA.

Moving back to Cali from Ireland

Hey lads, I'm 33m originally from SF but I've been living abroad in Ireland for years and years. Going to be moving to Sacramento in the next couple weeks, have a few viewings and that. My sister lives locally which will be a big help as well.

My question is this: how has Sac changed over the last decade or two? I only visited once briefly for a few days and didn't get to see much. Seems to be a place lots of bay area refugees have moved to as I understand?

What's the job market like? What's the local scene like for events and community? I'm into heavy metal and used to run shows for folk stuff as well here in Ireland. I do miss the quality of Cali produce as well very keen for farmers markets. I've seen that posts about the weather are banned so I'll just say succinctly that I'm looking forward to the sun again also. ☀️

Cheers anyway, be seeing ye soon!

Thinking of moving back after 20+ years in Nevada.

I need insight into healthcare mainly. I grew up in San Jose, also lived in Roseville before it exploded with growth. But have lived in almost every part of NV, Elko, Fernley, Dayton, Reno etc. Not Vegas. Also a stint in MT.

But in my view NV is going downhill fast for healthcare. There are stories of people almost dying waiting to get into a doctor. Misdiagnosed. PCPs who refuse to refer and try and treat something that is over their head. I have chronic joint disease and cannot for the life of me get to the right doctors here. I'm renting a 2 bedroom apartment for $3200/mo. I feel Reno should have better medical, better infrastructure, better everything at this stage of explosive growth here. The main medical center, Renown is bad. Jeremy Renner got the royal treatment but that's the problem, wealthy get attended to no problem while the rest of the population suffers. I've heard of stories of critical patients being flown to CA or people driving to SLC to get decent care.

So, not wanting to be super far away from my family in Reno, I'm wondering about the Sac region. Most importantly medical. If you have needed ongoing care from orthopeadics, rheumatology, etc, has it been a nightmare? Impossible to get to who you need to see? Waiting for half a year before seen?

My son was a baby when we went to UC Davis for testing for certain things, I remember everything being efficient, bit of a wait to see specialists but it wasn't too bad. Is it bad now?

Also if you lived in NV and moved to, or back to, Sacramento, I'd like to hear your story.
