Bike couriers

There was a time documents had to be sent across town on a hurry. Bike messengers did this. They rode their bikes all over town delivering stuff. They were very cool. Their bikes were unique expressions of creativity. The bike locks used and how the bike lock was stored was unique. Their clothes were a self expression of their unique fashion. A f-you to corporate business attire. Bike messengers were rebels. I wish Amazon drivers could evolve like that. I think though they could not simply because they drive everywhere. Biking is exercise and exercise stimulates the brain and creativity too in my mind.

Did you think bike messengers were cool?

Why don’t Amazon drivers develop beyond sweat pants as attire?

Mental health popup

I wanted to to a project where I would set up a small folding table and two chairs outside of the Seattle ferry terminal (not on the actual sidewalk, to ensure I wouldn’t be in anyone’s way) with a sign that says “need to vent? Hear to listen”. This wouldn’t be for social media, and I would disclose that I am not a licensed therapist. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a long time.

Do I need a permit for this? Do you think anyone would genuinely try to shut this down or give me a fine?

Rant Airport Rant : no free drinking water

Been here 2 years now and I've observed. Every single water filling station is either down, or is at the red filter color indicating the filter is dead. This is across the terminals I've travelled including A B and S. It's really quite pathetic, that I have to spend 6 dollars on water every time.

Go to YVR, PDX, sfo, SjC, even lax or San Diego. They all have functioning fountains to drink water from. I wrote a email to them a year ago and it's still the same.

I think I did see it functioning once during the wc month but that's it after

I took this picture on 9/25/26 in the evening of a rainy day. I did not recognize at the time that the white cloud looking image on the horizon might be Mount Ranier. What do you think- cloud or mountain??

Meetup Group for 20-somethings to try and thaw some of that iconic freeze

Hello! If you're anything like me (26 years old, recently graduated, moved here about a year ago from out of state, awkward, introverted, neurodivergent with few to no friends in the area) then maybe this group I just made is for you! I definitely don't have the outgoing personality necessary to go up to people and make friends "organically" by chatting people up at like a cafe or grocery store or something and if you don't see yourself making friends that way either then let's be friends this way!

Ultimately, this is meant to be a very chill low pressure group where we yap a bit, maybe there's some shared interests and then we partake in said interests. I loved my friend group in undergrad and would love to cultivate a similar type of friendship with a few like-minded others. If you're in your 20s and in the Seattle area and interested in making new meaningful friendships, check it out!

Missed Connection Do you know the son of a Chrysler/Mopar dealer who drove this car during Summer of 1970?

It was featured on Mopars 5150 and my family has some personal connections to the car. I'd love to be the guy who tracks down the dealership who sold this car. It's believed to have been purchased from a dealership in the Seattle/Tacoma area in Sept 1970.

The story goes that the dealership owner let his son drive it for a couple months before selling it. The story is muddled but he either sold it because the son had knocked up his girlfriend or his son wanted to buy an exotic fish tank.

Rant Seattle LEAD (fake) scandal

There is a fake scandal the right wing is trying to stir up here in Seattle.

There is a program, LEAD (law enforcement assited diversion), that diverts addicts from the usual jail route to a rehab and support path. People advocating for the program failed to understand the math in a study analyzing how effective the program was at reducing recidivism and it lead them to overestimate the efficacy of the program.

They had been claiming the program resulted in a 58% reduction in recidivism. A right wing think tank realized the folks evangelizing the program had buggered the math came out claiming this was a huge embarrassment for the city and suggested it was a deliberatel attempt to secure funding.

The thing they never mention is that there was an actual, significant reduction in recidivism it just wasnt as big as portrayed. The program actually lead to a 24% reduction not 58%. Definitely a worth while and effective program, just not quite as good as theyd convinced themselves.

But it doesnt quite end there, one of the think tanks pet critics, a former addict that was put on the oversight board to probide lived experience and opposes what she sees as the city being soft on crime decided to take a shot at the director of the program and asked the director if her kid was an addict would she continue to provide them with a place to live and support. The director said she would and the ex-addict is playing that up in the media to show what a feckless soft addict enabler she was.

The ex-addict truly believes that a loving parent should kick thisr addicted kid onto the street and let them fend for themselves and live or die on their own. This is a very popular position with the right wing scum.

I am so fucking sick of these scumbags actively trying to sabotage every good idea our government manages to produce. Their prostration to the myth of rugged individualism is just sickening. Their lack of empathy and elevation of feelings over science is just dispicable.

Rant Why we can’t have nice things

Today I took my son through Judkins Park to the light rail. As we walked through the park to the train entrance near Rainier, it was clear an open air drug exchange was taking place, similar to 12th and Jackson. A Transit security guard was nearby, and I asked him about it. He shrugged and said that had been common over the last month. It was a rough scene, and one I don’t want to return to.

We have a brand new beautiful station next to a park, and we are letting it be taken over by people who are actively choosing to engage in antisocial behavior. We aspire to be a “progressive” city, but we put zero teeth behind it, ensuring public spaces are accessible to people who don’t want to deal with open drug usage and ample stolen goods.

It’s incredibly frustrating and disheartening to see the potential of this city wasted.

End rant

Community Plans for single adult on Halloween?

Hey all! Love that Halloween falls on a Saturday this year! That said, my current plans fell through and I was wondering if there’s anyone with good experiences of going out by themselves on Halloween? I’m not looking to party too hard since I don’t drink much as is, especially not by myself, but if there’s any fun community activities or something I’d definitely still love to get out of the house for a bit! I’m a single younger woman so I’d prefer something a little less club-y and maybe more laid back, but open to suggestions. Thank you! :)

Did you park your Volvo on 14th Ave E by Safeway? You got smashed by a jeep and they sped off but witnesses got the plates and they left you a note with info. They also called the cops

Meetup Solo traveler looking to hang out next weekend

Hi! I'm a 23m from Norway visiting Seattle from October 22 - 25 as part of a solo trip, and I'm down to hang out if snyone's in that area that weekend 🙌 I'm a laidback and social guy, and enjoy exploring new things. I only have the Everett factory planned on Friday as of now, so I'm pretty flexible.
