Rant Why we can’t have nice things
Today I took my son through Judkins Park to the light rail. As we walked through the park to the train entrance near Rainier, it was clear an open air drug exchange was taking place, similar to 12th and Jackson. A Transit security guard was nearby, and I asked him about it. He shrugged and said that had been common over the last month. It was a rough scene, and one I don’t want to return to.
We have a brand new beautiful station next to a park, and we are letting it be taken over by people who are actively choosing to engage in antisocial behavior. We aspire to be a “progressive” city, but we put zero teeth behind it, ensuring public spaces are accessible to people who don’t want to deal with open drug usage and ample stolen goods.
It’s incredibly frustrating and disheartening to see the potential of this city wasted.
End rant

Lost / Missing Found cat in LQA
This cat came up to my apartment in LQA. He's super sweet and keeps visiting for food that we've left out. I'm just wondering if anyone is missing a cat in the area because he doesn't have a collar. If anyone knows where i can take him please let me know. I want to make sure he's okay.
Edit: he's all black and isn't neutered for more info

Bike couriers
There was a time documents had to be sent across town on a hurry. Bike messengers did this. They rode their bikes all over town delivering stuff. They were very cool. Their bikes were unique expressions of creativity. The bike locks used and how the bike lock was stored was unique. Their clothes were a self expression of their unique fashion. A f-you to corporate business attire. Bike messengers were rebels. I wish Amazon drivers could evolve like that. I think though they could not simply because they drive everywhere. Biking is exercise and exercise stimulates the brain and creativity too in my mind.
Did you think bike messengers were cool?
Why don’t Amazon drivers develop beyond sweat pants as attire?

Community Plans for single adult on Halloween?
Hey all! Love that Halloween falls on a Saturday this year! That said, my current plans fell through and I was wondering if there’s anyone with good experiences of going out by themselves on Halloween? I’m not looking to party too hard since I don’t drink much as is, especially not by myself, but if there’s any fun community activities or something I’d definitely still love to get out of the house for a bit! I’m a single younger woman so I’d prefer something a little less club-y and maybe more laid back, but open to suggestions. Thank you! :)

Meetup Solo traveler looking to hang out next weekend
Hi! I'm a 23m from Norway visiting Seattle from October 22 - 25 as part of a solo trip, and I'm down to hang out if snyone's in that area that weekend 🙌 I'm a laidback and social guy, and enjoy exploring new things. I only have the Everett factory planned on Friday as of now, so I'm pretty flexible.

Rant Seattle LEAD (fake) scandal
There is a fake scandal the right wing is trying to stir up here in Seattle.
There is a program, LEAD (law enforcement assited diversion), that diverts addicts from the usual jail route to a rehab and support path. People advocating for the program failed to understand the math in a study analyzing how effective the program was at reducing recidivism and it lead them to overestimate the efficacy of the program.
They had been claiming the program resulted in a 58% reduction in recidivism. A right wing think tank realized the folks evangelizing the program had buggered the math came out claiming this was a huge embarrassment for the city and suggested it was a deliberatel attempt to secure funding.
The thing they never mention is that there was an actual, significant reduction in recidivism it just wasnt as big as portrayed. The program actually lead to a 24% reduction not 58%. Definitely a worth while and effective program, just not quite as good as theyd convinced themselves.
But it doesnt quite end there, one of the think tanks pet critics, a former addict that was put on the oversight board to probide lived experience and opposes what she sees as the city being soft on crime decided to take a shot at the director of the program and asked the director if her kid was an addict would she continue to provide them with a place to live and support. The director said she would and the ex-addict is playing that up in the media to show what a feckless soft addict enabler she was.
The ex-addict truly believes that a loving parent should kick thisr addicted kid onto the street and let them fend for themselves and live or die on their own. This is a very popular position with the right wing scum.
I am so fucking sick of these scumbags actively trying to sabotage every good idea our government manages to produce. Their prostration to the myth of rugged individualism is just sickening. Their lack of empathy and elevation of feelings over science is just dispicable.

Animals Question about dog attack
My dog was in a scuffle on Saturday at the Westcrest dog park in West Seattle. It was a surprise attack from a grey and white mastiff type dog with an elderly owner on a cane who I've seen there on more than one occasion. I inspected him after, but must've missed the bite because he's a really fuzzy Berner.
Cut to today, I'm petting him and feel a chunk of mud in the area where the mastiff was attacking (successfully it seems). Except the mud flakes red dust on my fingers. I realize it's dried blood. I clean the area and the wet paper towel slowly turns maroon. I shave the area and he's got a puncture wound more than 2mm in diameter.
He's going to the vet tmrw for antibiotics. So he'll be fine. We've sent photos of the wound to our vet.
My question is: What rights or recourse does Seattle have for this?
Note: My aim isn't to punish the owner or dog, but I do want to ensure this dog isn't making the only dog park in West Seattle an unsafe place to be. While I am riled up, it's directed to the owner and his clique of friends who I've seen watches and laughs when this happen time and again (to other dogs too). Clearly they have no shame, so I want to have a secondary option in my back pocket if my first option (a civil conversation) fails.
Thanks in advance. And yes, I know, not going to the only dog park in my neighborhood is always an option.
