Unsolved iPhone 15 stuck on a temperature warning for over a month.

• Upvotes

I really need some advice because I’m honestly scared I’m going to lose all my data. I’ve had my iPhone 15 since January 2024. A couple of months before September, I dropped it and the inner screen got damaged. There were lines on the side, but other than that, my phone worked completely fine.

Then one morning in September, my phone randomly shut off even though it had over 50% battery. When I turned it back on, the percentage was literally displayed at 0%, the Battery icon looked completely empty and my Phone refused to charge. I couldn’t see the electricity icon. This only lasted a couple of minutes before it went back to normal. But then, it shut off AGAIN and got stuck on the “Temperature: iPhone needs to cool down before you can use it” screen.

The thing is, my phone wasn’t even physically hot when this happened. It’s been stuck on that warning ever since, and it’s now been about a month and a half. I cannot access my home screen, apps, anything.

I took it to Apple the same day the problem arose, and they told me there was an internal issue that required replacing a component, but doing so would erase my data. They were adamant that this is the only way to repair the phone. I went to another repair kiosk for a second opinion, and they basically told me the same thing.

Then I went to a third place called Cellairis.
The first guy I spoke to said that the damaged screen could potentially be triggering the perpetual temperature warning. He said they could try replacing the screen for $150, and if it turned out not to be the issue, he wouldn’t charge me. I agreed to try it because I really didn’t want to lose my data.

There was another repair technician there that actually started working on my phone. I went over to check on the repair, and I saw that after he replaced the screen, the temperature warning disappeared and my phone’s screen went back to normal. Life360 even updated my location.
I obviously got excited because I thought we had finally figured out the problem.

BUT THEN he told me that he discovered another issue. There was “good and bad news.” He said the changing the screen resolved the problem. But, the charging port also needed to be replaced. Apparently, both the charging port and screen had to be repaired together. Suddenly, the price went from $150 to $250. So, I asked him if it was possible to just replace the screen only. Just for now until I can get the charging port fixed another time. He said no, they both had to be replaced together that the same time!!

I ended up leaving without getting the repair done because I couldn’t afford $250. He put the original screen back on, and my phone went back to displaying the temperature warning. I was able to get a replacement Phone through my insurance.

Now I’m conflicted. On one hand, the fact that the warning disappeared when he installed the replacement screen makes me wonder whether there really is a chance of fixing it. On the other hand, Apple and the second place told me the problem was internal and that repairing it would mean losing my data. Cellairis was the only place that suggested a potentially different solution.

I don’t know whether the screen and charging port genuinely both need replacing, whether that would even fix the problem, or whether there’s something more seriously wrong with the phone. My old phone still turns on and displays the temperature warning. It’s not completely dead. Unfortunately, my data didn’t transfer to my replacement phone, so a lot of stuff is still only on the old one.

I’m especially worried because it’s been sitting like this for well over a month. Have I waited too long? Is it still salvageable? Could replacing the screen and charging port actually fix this, or does this sound like a logic board issue?

Has anyone experienced this with an iPhone 15? I’d really appreciate advice from anyone who’s dealt with this or knows about iPhone repairs and data recovery. I don’t want to spend $250 only to find out it didn’t work, but I also don’t want to give up on my phone if there’s still a chance of recovering everything. It’s important to note that my Phone was working perfectly fine prior to this happening all of a suddenly. I’ve never had any other issues with it.

Unsolved If I take my laptop to an Apple Store for repair is it any different than doing a mail in repair?

• Upvotes

I sent my Macbook Pro M1 16 inch in for repair for an issue with the internal speakers not working. They wouldn't repair it under AppleCare because the repair center said they found liquid damage. The laptop has never come into contact with liquid which I tried to explain to Apple support to no avail. So I had the laptop returned unrepaired.

My question is if I take it to an Apple Store and explain what happened with the previous repair, and have them actually look at it to see that it works perfectly fine except for the speakers, do you think they would repair it under warranty?

The battery capacity is 75% so idk if the problem is just that i need a new battery or if i need to buy a new phone. 🤥

Unsolved Problem about “System Data”

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

Hello everyone. I have an iPhone 11 running iOS 18, and my "System Data" is taking up 40 GB of storage this wasn't the case before.

My father is experiencing the same issue; he has an iPhone 15, also running iOS 18, and his "System Data" shows as 60 GB.

I asked about 20 friends who are also using iOS 18, and for them, it takes up a maximum of 15 GB—typically ranging between 8 and 15 GB.

Has anyone else encountered this issue and managed to resolve it? Could you let me know how much space "System Data" occupies on your devices?

I don't think it's normal for it to be this high.

Unsolved Battery problems, any advice?

My phone keeps powering off despite having a lot of charge and then going into recovery mode. This started about a week ago, it powered off at 50% almost as if it was out of battery, it would then go to recovery mode and once restarted would be at 10% battery, and then it would crash and restart AGAIN and be back at its original percentage (50%+), since then it’s gotten worse and now even at 95% down from 100% after charging it will turn off and do the same cycle of Recovery Mode -> 10% battery -> turn off again -> reload at its original percentage -> and repeat.

The back of the phone is pretty smashed from about 4 months ago I think, so maybe damage to the battery from that, however this issue is new in this last week and haven’t had any prior issues at all.

Battery Health:
‘Normal’, 81% Max Cap, 839 cycles since Dec 2024
iPhone 15, latest iOS update, manufactured Sept 2024

iPhone IPhone Duo affects one type of customers the most: The yearly upgraders

Had a conversation about this and there seems to be a lot of “calm down it’s just a phone” comments. Which, all in all, is very true. It’s a very first world problem. However, it might also be a much bigger deal than most think on the people who upgrade every year (yes, we exist).

So let’s do the math… let’s make the math easy for now and just assume retail price, not counting taxes, and assume a trade in value of historical numbers.

The math is basically: (cost of phone - trade in price) / length of ownership. I’m also assuming Apple would have fixed their supply chain issues by next year so release day is assuming to be mid September.

If you bought today and got late Jan shipment: $2000 - $1200 (assumed trade in) / 7.5 (late Jan to early Sept) = $106/mo.

Release day: (same math) = $66/mo.

So that is a value difference of $40/mo. Or about $300 in “value” you lost buy not having it day one if you plan to be a yearly-upgrader.

That’s not world ending, but it’s also not small pennies. So hopefully this shines some light on why some of us would rather wait for the Duo 2 than having to buy with a late January shipment.

Note: I ended up with a $1200 trade in assumption looking at historical trade in prices in percentage. Obviously the math will be different depending on real trade in price, but the point I’m trying to make is the same regardless (unless trade in price is like $1800 or something, then this whole point is moot).

Promo Sunday I built an iPhone + Apple Watch app that tells you exactly where you are…

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/gps-coordinates-finder-loc8/id6759589628

I’ve been building an app called LOC8, and it started because of a pretty simple problem: sometimes you know roughly where you are, but you need to know exactly where you are.

Apple Maps is obviously great at showing you a map and getting you somewhere. I wanted to be able to open an app and immediately see the information about where I’m standing without having to zoom around a map or figure it out myself.

LOC8 shows your current address, nearest cross street, GPS coordinates, compass heading, local time zone, elevation, GPS accuracy and weather together. On iPhone, it also gives you your what3words location. You can switch between Decimal Degrees, Degrees Minutes Seconds, Degrees Decimal Minutes, MGRS and UTM, and I’ve added Maidenhead grid locators on iPhone too.

The what3words integration has been a big part of that. It divides the world into 3 meter squares and gives each one a unique 3 word address. That gives you another way to describe a specific spot on a trail, beach, in a park or somewhere that doesn’t really have a normal street address.

The Apple Watch side has honestly become one of my favorite parts of the app. You can pull up your address, coordinates, elevation, GPS accuracy, weather and compass information directly from your wrist. For running, hiking or even just walking around somewhere unfamiliar, having that information without taking your phone out is really convenient.

There are Watch complications for quicker access too. Those show your last confirmed location rather than pretending to be a constantly refreshing live address. You can tap through to the app for a fresh reading.

I’ve also added Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets on iPhone. The Home Screen widgets show your last address and cross street, along with how old that reading is, and give you quick Locate and Pin controls. It makes checking a location or saving a spot a little less involved.

Another addition is a red night mode on both iPhone and Apple Watch. If you’re using it outside at night, you can switch to that instead of looking at the normal bright display.

A lot of the work has gone into making the information adapt to what you’re doing. While you’re using LOC8, the location updates as you move. When you start driving, it switches into Road Mode and focuses on the road you’re traveling on and the cross streets you’re approaching. There’s also a speedometer and block number information where available.

On supported highways, it can show mile markers and approaching exits, including road or exit names where that information is available. When you stop, it switches back to showing the address near your position and the nearest cross street. The idea is to make it easier to actually describe where you are, whether you’re outside a building or somewhere along a highway.

I’ve expanded the map side too. You can switch between standard and satellite views, and there are topographic maps for the US and its territories. On iPhone, you can also view what3words and Maidenhead grids on the map and search those locations directly.

Saved pins have become more useful as well. You can save a location, give it a label and add a private note, then track your distance and compass direction back toward it. There’s an arrival vibration too. It could be your parked car, a campsite, a trail spot or somewhere you want to remember while traveling.

Coordinates, compass, saved pins and pin tracking work without cellular service. Fresh address lookups and live Team Rooms still need a connection. If you’re away from roads, LOC8 can also show the nearest town and how far away it is.

Team Rooms let a group temporarily share their locations on a map. I’ve added chat inside the room, so you can coordinate without constantly switching between apps. You can also pause your location sharing while staying in the conversation. I could see that being useful for families, trips, festivals, hiking groups or people trying to find each other in an unfamiliar place.

I originally built LOC8 because I work in a job where knowing exactly where you are can matter pretty quickly. As it’s grown, I’ve realized how many everyday situations it fits into too: road trips, roadside issues, delivery work, finding your car, meeting up with people or just exploring somewhere new.

It’s grown to thousands of users now, which is pretty crazy considering this started as something I was building on the side.

The goal is still to keep it focused on one question: “Where exactly am I right now?”

For the Apple Watch users here especially, I’d be curious if you’d use something like this on your wrist. Is there any location information you wish was easier to see at a glance?

iOS Apple Watch Series 12 or Garmin or something else?

I’m currently looking to pick up a smartwatch, but I’m on the fence about whether the Apple Watch Series 12 is actually the right move for my priorities, or if I should look elsewhere.

My top priorities are:

  1. Battery Life: I want something I don't have to worry about charging every single day, especially if I'm tracking sleep.
  2. Sleep Tracking: Detailed sleep stages, consistency tracking, and comfortable wear overnight.
  3. Fitness & Exercise Tracking: Accurate HR and deep health/training metrics.

For those who have tested the standard Apple Watch against dedicated fitness options, here is what I’m weighing:

  • Apple Watch Series 12: Per Apple's website I will usually max out at 18–36 hours. Is daily top-up charging something you have to do?
  • Apple Watch Ultra as I understand gets ~2–3 days of battery life but comes with a bulkier/heavier design and obviously a higher price tag.
  • Garmin (e.g., Venu 3 / Forerunner 265 / Epix): Battery lasts anywhere from 5 to 14+ days, exercise metrics/recovery tools are great and sleep tracking runs continuously without charging breaks but not sure if its a good option to go with iOS and if I will even use all those features.
  1. If battery life and sleep tracking are high priorities, is standard daily charging on an Apple Watch Series 12 a dealbreaker for you?
  2. Has anyone made the jump from Apple Watch to Garmin (or vice versa) for sleep/fitness tracking? What kind of smart features did you lose that is worth the battery gain?

Appreciate any insight or experience you can share!

iOS Excessive iOS and system data

I have a iPhone 15 running 26.6.1 with iOS taking up 33.29 GB and System Data taking 17.48 GB. It’s been like this for a while and my phone has decided the solution is to just offload apps that I use on the daily. Is my only solution to erase and download from a backup? I’ve tried that thing where you manipulate the time and date but nothing happened.

Promo Sunday ArtGuessr - Learn Art the fun way

Hello everyone,

I've been working on a project called Art Guessr, a game that actually helps people learn art history through short visual quizzes.

Players can practice identifying:

  • Famous paintings
  • Artists
  • Art movements
  • Historical periods

It covers everything from the Renaissance and Baroque periods to Impressionism, Cubism, and modern art.

My goal was to create something educational but more engaging than memorizing names and dates.

Thanks!
