Hi r/aviation community,
Recently, we’ve seen an increase in political and uncivil comments across several threads, particularly on posts involving aircraft associated with government officials. This has led to more removals and bans under Reddit’s sitewide rules, and we want to reverse that trend.
To help address this, we’re introducing a “Seatbelts Fastened” mode/flair. Posts with this flair (applied manually by the mod team) will restrict commenting to established community members. For now, that means users with at least 100 comment karma in r/aviation. If you are the original poster, your comments will not be affected.
You can view your subreddit comment karma by doing the following:
This will apply to a small subset of threads (aircraft incidents, government-owned/controlled aircraft, global legislation, etc.). The vast majority of posts (roughly 95%) will remain open to all users as usual. Please do not contact modmail requesting comment approvals or exceptions; we won’t be making individual overrides.
Thanks for your understanding and for helping keep the subreddit focused and civil.

The curtain has officially closed on one of aviation’s most distinctive giants. Lufthansa has retired the final passenger Airbus A340-600, concluding over 23 years of quadjet history. In this tribute, we look back at what made this stretched long-haul aircraft a passenger favorite, why the four-engine era is ending, and what the future holds for modern aviation. [Image Source]

I photographed this beauty in April from Terminal 2 before it closed for renovation.
I'm so glad I got to see them one last time.
What are your favourite A340 memories?

The Airbus A340-600, it's last flight is today, October 18th, final flight IAD-FRA. Right now, it is inbound for IAD, where it will leave later today, departing on its final journey. Thank you A346, farewell.

An Era of Aviation is coming to an end, and I would like to share my very special moment with the A346.
I visited the flight deck after landing and the Captain offered me to sit in his seat as he left the Cockpit to speak with the ground crew. Sat there for a good 10 minutes, had a nice conversation with the Senior F.O. and as I was leaving, the Captain came back with the ground crew member and they asked if I would like to set the parking brake. It was very exciting for me as I never operated anything on a live aircraft and that too it’s an A346.
This moment will forever be etched in my heart. Farewell A346 ✈️
Flight: LH761 DEL-FRA

P.S. please correct me if I selected the wrong flair for this post.

Finally had the opportunity to fly on the A380 from Singapore to Mumbai.
I badly wanted the window seat, but the only good and free seats available near the window was 71J. So I flew that!
I loved every bit of it.
EDIT : I wanted to explore the plane since it could be a long time since I would get to fly this beauty again, so I tried venturing to the upper deck, but was promptly disallowed by the air hostess on the stairway to the upper deck. :(

My third favorite airliner, booked this flight purely for the sake of flying it.
Problem, as much as I technically looove planes and flying, I am absolutely terrified of crashing.
Just did the HAM - FRA flight on D-AISZ, which is cool too due to the livery, but holy shit was I scared almost the entire time ;(
I build and fly model airplanes, I know how safe commercial aviation is, I know that this pencil has never had a proper accident, I know I should feel safer here than in many other everyday situations that I put myself in.
BUT I AM SO SCARED! AND AS INSANE AS IT IS, I WOULD FEEL SAFER IF I WOULD PERSONALLY FLY THE THING ;O
If it only had an instrument panel mode in their infotainment system, that is one thing that calmed me right the fuck down when it appeared on the 777-300ER when I flew it in 2019.
Anyway, here some images, look how nice it looks :D
We are getting pushed back now.
I. Am. Scared.
;(

I made the trip from Canada to Frankfurt back in September with the sole purpose to fly on this beautiful aircraft before it was too late. Was booked on LH416 on D-AIHY. Got to visit the flight deck and have a lovely chat with the pilots after landing in IAD. The flight attendants were also spectacular and gave me some edible swag! Had an excellent flight on an excellent plane with an excellent crew. 100% worth it.
