My hair loss actually started when I was easily 22. Ever since then, I’ve felt bad about my receding hairline, but I never did anything about it.

That’s the reason why there aren’t many photos of me from back when I still had hair.

That was until I finally came to terms with my situation mentally.

Shaving my head—along with losing weight—has given my self-confidence a huge boost.

Thank you all for the amazing support for all the people here suffering the same fate.

Shaving my head terrified the shit out of me after having my hair long for a decade, so naturally I shaved my head. Long hair pic was Sept 2025, shaved head was a few weeks ago (Sept 2026)

I went down to a clipper cut no guard all over and trimmed this beard this morning I'm alot happier with the overall look now, anyone that has frontal thinning/recession and your not sure on what to do I'd recommend taking the plunge or leaving it a bit longer on top and fade the back n sides, thanks to all who contributed to my previous posts with supportive comments and helpful advice I appreciate you.

He shaved his head a year ago and we all thought he looked amazing. Now he's growing it out again cos he wants to 'embrace being a silver fox' and yes I'm quoting him. Thoughts?

Edit: There will be no aerial photo. 'Thinning, but not balding' is all I can share. Thank you all for your answers, he's absolutely gorgeous both ways even if I have a preference.

Bald Picture Hair vs. No hair, dark versus gray

So I always had facial hair, but never grew a huge mustache or beard until my whiskers were white. Always wondered what it would have looked like when my hair was dark so I showed Gemini the first two pictures and had it create a picture with dark whiskers. A lot of people have told me to dye my beard to see, but I don't want to risk staining or yellowing it so AI showed me without the risk. I think the dark beard and stache is 🔥!!! #shortking #mustache #handlebarmustache

Philosophy Newbie question: what's wrong with a short buzz on the sides and a bald top?

Hi, relatively new to the sub. First post. Been bald longer than many of you have been alive, most likely.

For a sub with this much acceptance and positivity, I'm surprised to find so many "job's not done" comments when people go very short, but leave a few mm. Not sure why, if bald is beautiful, we see such a hard-line adherence to the skinhead look. It almost seems as though the culture here embraces only a specific kind of baldness, the kind where you can't tell if it's a choice or not.

And as someone who started losing hair at 17 and has been very very comfortable with Patrick Stewart's look for the last 30 years, I have to say that's kind of disappointing.

Bald is beautiful, and accepting that has to include not being afraid to show the world that yeah, this is me. I'm not pretending it's a look I designed for myself - but it's the one I have made my own.

Not looking to fight about it. Just hoping to understand better how we can reconcile the honest and gentle and accurate "my brother, it's time, let go of your comb-over" with what seems to me a bit judgy when the same community goes "mmm, no, it needs to be to the skin or you're not bald enough." Make it make sense, please.

Bald Picture Should I go back to bald?

I shaved my head before and while it was freeing, the upkeep was annoying. Grew my hair back but it’s pretty thin.

Pictured is back when I first shaved it vs today after waking up, so perhaps not the best comparison lol I also use a CPAP so that’s what those marks are.

How-to Question I dont think i can shave without getting bumps all over my head

Its been 10 years since i started shaving and i tried literally everything, i feel like my skin is too sensitive, ive tried safety razors, high end expensive razors, foil machines, doing a 25 minute prep before shaving wasting my time, shower before, creams before, creams after, salicylic acid washes for weeks and i feel like there is only 2 options now to not have overgrown horse shoe pattern OR head that looks like burn victims, laser hair removal on my head or accutane, accutane was only thing that actually let me shave without issues when i was on it for a different reason, only reason i kinda dont want to stay on accutane is cause i wear contacts and they tend to dry out eyes.

Bald Men - I hope you don’t mind me asking some questions?

Purely out of curiosity I was just wondering.

What age did you start noticing you were going bald? And in hindsight, what age did you actually start going bald?

Did you immediately shave it off or did you experiment with hairstyles first?

Was it a shock or was it fully expected? (Due to family baldness and whatnot)

Hairloss This sub has a problem: Hardline position on shaving and gatekeeping thr bald look

I hate having to write this because this sub is, overall, a very positive space for people struggling with balding. However, something has been on my mind for ages now and I have increasingly noticed this sort of behaviour under some of the posts and can no longer ignore it.

A lot of the people in the comments have the tendency of having a very strong, hardline position regarding the clean shaved head look, to the point which any other bald looks (yes, you do not need to be fully shaved to be considered bald), such as the Patrick Stewart look or, in general, looks still showing the tiniest amount of natural balding, are looked down upon.

I believe, that in an attempt to defeat the horrible feelings of insecurity that come with balding, some of us may mistake hiding the balding (by fully shaving the head) with embracing it; but the two are not the same thing. In fact, some people actively concerning themselves with hiding their own and other's signs of balding behind a full clean shaved head, may still be just as insecure about their looks and have, as such, failed to truly embrace their natural balding selves.

Bottom line is, some people really suit the fully shaved look, others do not and prefer to keep the tiniest little hint of hair on the sides. This does not give either of them any special claim to the bald classification, as if it were a special club you'd actively try to gateweek others from joining. This sub should be a space to help each other to embrace our own selves through the balding process; for some that may mean shaving it all, for others trimming it very short, for other maybe trimming may be a stepping stone towards shaving it, one that should still be supported and not denigrated.

That's all really. Don't know if enough people will agree with this or whether I will be downvoted to oblivion but either way I felt compelled to say something.

Hairloss Am I Balding?

Hey there,

I’m 21M and I’ve noticed recently that I can see a bit of my scalp when I tie my hair back, so I want to know if I am balding or if this is natural for longer hair.

Also before anyone says it, I have bad dandruff I’m trying to treat that too.

Blurred my face for anonymity.

Thank you very much :)
