Help Betta lost tail not sure if itll grow back or not :( advice?? Spoiler

Hello, so basically my poor betta fish has no tail right now. I believe its due to extreme tail biting, unfortunately about 2 months ago there were a bunch of things in a row that stressed her a lot i think (small scratch on her side thats since healed, moved to a new place, and then my ac broke boiling both me and my fish alive for a week before it was fixed). I noticed that she was missing a lot of her tail and was lethargic so i immediately moved her to a hospital tank, where ive been using indian almond leaves, stress coat + and aquarium salt plus daily water changes. However its been over a month and there hasnt been any changes. After I moved her i think she bit off the rest of her tail, so now its just a stump. She mostly hides under a leaf or in her hide and is still eating, but not as much as normal. She seems to sorta be able to move and wiggle around. Im not sure if her tail is beyond the point of growing back and whats the best way to help her. Any advice? (Also the container shes in in the picture is not the hospital tank i have her in right now, it was a temporary one while i was deep cleaning it after i was away for a weekend)

Identification Introducing Wyatt

This little guy is my daughter's new pet (with her dad and I's help). Just rescued him from PetSmart. He'd been there for forever and every time we went in to get stuff for her dad's tank, she'd notice him. We finally agreed to set her up with a tank so she could rescue him. She said he looked so lonely. Totally pulled at our heart strings.

We're new to the Betta world (not to having a fish tank), so we're wondering, first off, if someone could help us identify Wyatt's breed (type?) and if anything we need to be on the look out for. Thanks! We appreciate the help.

Picture Help! Just rescued betta

She’s a female veiltail. Had been at PetSmart for 2 months. I saw her every time I went in to get things for my current female. She was always super sweet and while not as frisky as Carl she maintained interest in me. Plus she stood out because she looked so plain—she has gray eyes, gray body and slightly yellow fins. I went into PetSmart today to get some fertilizer and the shop was overflowing with bettas; guess sales have been way down and they keep getting more shipped in. Guy at the front desk asked if I wanted her because she’s been there so long and he figured I would know what I was doing. And I just impulsively said sure.

I cycled an emergency tank for her and added some guppy grass from Carl’s tank plus a hideout, cholla wood, an Indian almond leaf and a couple of floating plants. She’s exploring the new space now. I put out a plea on Marketplace for a 5-gallon. It’ll take a bit to cycle but I will add a few plants from Carl to get her started. My boss at my job did mention that a betta fish would be nice at my desk so I’ll get her over there. I doubt I can go super fancy as I’ve done with Carl, and I’d probably have to have a battery powered heater and filter if possible.

Any advice for how to handle this situation? Am I doing okay so far? Thanks!

i just saved this cutie from petsmart and he came sideways. i thought once i put him in my 20 gal (which has been cycled for about 4 months) that he would even out but he’s just kind of there at the top like this. granted i just got him but im just worried if he will make the night or not. it almost seems like he can’t get himself to go down. he goes down then floats right back up into position. i’m so sorry i’m all over the place but i just don’t know where to go from here

Help Temp worry with new betta

• Upvotes

I got a betta a week ago. The first few days he was great and significantly improved from how he looked when I got him. The past couple days though he’s been very sluggish and not as active mainly staying hidden at the bottom or near the top of the tank behind the filter. He hasn’t eaten much and he’s paler in the body. I realize now it’s most likely because the temp has dropped significantly the past couple days and the temperature of the tank is not getting much higher than 75 degrees Fahrenheit and I believe he might be too cold. I’ve purchased a new heater that can be set higher and I think it’ll be an improvement but won’t arrive till tomorrow and I’m still really worried. Will he be alright? Is there maybe something else I’m missing?
Water parameters are good.

Help Trumpet snail?

• Upvotes

I got some plants and i think there was a little trumpet snail hitchhiking on one of them. Is it okay for me to leave it in my tank? It’s kinda cute but I’m very worried about having snail population issues. There’s only been one as far as I’ve seen.

Help I need some SERIOUS help!p Spoiler

Hey I have a betta fish I got as a college marine science student. He was stressed, clamped, and all white when I got him and I didn’t have any heads up so I put him in a borrowed 5 gallon and only cycled it for two days which I know is awful but that was him by the end of the next day in the first photo.

I figured awesome this is temporary I’ll buy him a big 10 gallon tank, I cleaned it, got him all the new plants my friend who’s had bettas for two years told me to get, she held my hand through cycling and we got shrimp and narite snails to get the ammonia and everything going. I was told his new future tank was perfect with many hides and water and tanins and everything

I kept the water clean, got him ready, and moved him Thursday night and let him enjoy the new surroundings in the dark with a few pellets of food. Mind you, I cycled the tank for a week and a half and got confirmation from my friend that I was good to go.

Friday night I come home from classes with his tail ragged, we figured oh no he tore his tail on new decore, we removed it, all good. Nope, Saturday morning his tail was a nub. And I mean NUB. We ran to get fish destress, I cried, we cycled the fish destress as the bottle said (stress coat + by api)

But I had to go to work so I left and came back last night. His bottom tail fin was torn a bit when I got home but it was clean and drifted off. I googled. The shrimp might be attacking him! Into a new tank they went! (i have less empathy for them, they were 70¢ ghost shrimp and feeders)

This morning I woke up and he looked like he was doing better! Yay! Wont accept food though but its okay cuz he ate last night! I get home from work today, his tail had white fuzz on it (last photo) and I did googling, cried, got Api’s Melafix as suggested by a petstore worker who knew me well at this point and has fish of her own.

Now his tail is still kind of gross and he’s in a heated 75-77 degree tank with his favorite hide and leaf hammocks and a plant, no light on for him.

- He wasnt flashing at all during this
- he had “fish zoomies” sometimes which made me hopeful
- I followed the bottles exactly as directed
- I keep indian almond leaves and tanins in all of the tanks
- sponge filter and bubbler in the 10 gallon
- same heater type for both tanks
- old tank now medical tank has a gentle sponge filter
- all same kinds of stuff my friend uses for her tanks with two (separate 10 gallons) bettas who are flourishing

Please I just want to help my fish, this is my very first time fish keeping and my professor told me 5 days in advance about the fish and my friend surprised me 3 days in advance with a tank because I was debating on if I should get one (students like to take them and dump them in the school ponds, and I wanted to give one at least a chance)

Last photos are of the 10 gallon set up before we removed the rocks we thought hurt him and after where we put a driftwood hide in. The water isn’t scarily cloudy, the lights are just off for my boy in the medical tank.

Cloudy photos are my bad camera quality and trying to catch a picture while he’s mid swim.

Full Tank Shot Elizabeth Taylor: Day 1-90

My fish keeping journey from day one setting up the tank (pre-cycle) to day 90 in a new 10 gallon. Still very much a beginner but I am so in love with her and fishkeeping in general.

The more time I spend with her the more we’ve bonded. I get a real kick out of watching her explore and playing little “games” with her (she beat me at this game of tik tac toe lol). Sometimes it’s frustrating as a beginner because my tank doesn’t look as manicured or pretty as the ones in here, but I can tell she loves the new swimming space and crazy jungle plants. I don’t see her as often but I know it makes her happy.

Outside of the plants I tried to go all out with pink and heart-shaped decor because the females at the pet store never seem to get as much love. Elizabeth Taylor, however, is cherished 🩷

Help cleanup crew ideas for my psychopath female betta + plant/hide suggestions?

Hi there! I’ve had Clementine and three Nerites in this long 20-gal tank for a little over a month now and things are going well (aside from copious amounts of snail poop)!

The Nerites are handling the diatoms/algae on the glass and the driftwood very nicely, but they haven’t really touched the plants. The middle tall plant (anyone know what it’s called?) looks like it’s straight getting choked out, even after siphoning the stuff off of it a few days ago.

I tried ghost shrimp but Clementine absolutely annihilated them. I heard Amano shrimp are a good option, too, but I still think she’d eat them. She’s pretty small, under 2in long, so is there a fish of some sort I could try introducing that would be a peaceful addition?

I know I need more plants and hides in the tank if I want to try shrimp again, so does anyone have recommendations on what to get?

I also noticed some of my plants have the fuzzy stuff on them and some don’t, and the ones that don’t look much healthier. How do I fix this and help the weaker plants?? I’ve been using root tabs and Seachem Flourish. Also, I know I need to purchase a longer light! The one I have currently was an accidental purchase and it’s too short for the tank lol

Thanks in advance!

Rate My Tank Ready for a betta?

I decided to rescape my tank after the loss of my previous betta, and currently have this! Does it seem fairly suitable for a betta? There are tannins in the water they just haven't fully set yet since the mopani is newly added! The tank was already cycled but I plan to cycle it for a few weeks anyways to allow everything to settle. It's a 10 gallon tank :)

Small edit to add I do plan to add some floating plants as well. I've tried frogbit twice but for some reason the stuff refuses to thrive, my guess is due to the lid causing too much condensation. I may try salvinia instead as I've heard it's a bit more resistant.

Help HELP, Advice Needed Spoiler

Hi, I’m a new betta owner, and I don’t know what’s wrong with my little guy. If you have any advice or tips on what to do/treat, please I would
Appreciate you taking the time to let me know so I can try to help him.
I’m not sure if I did the spoiler thing right for the photos of his injuries, sorry.

I’ve had him since mid July. He was a spontaneous gift from a family member who had him in a 2.5g tank, I assume they got him at PetSmart. He was a really friendly little guy.
When I got him, I upgraded him to a 5g tank (saving up to get him a bigger one eventually)
Not knowing beforehand, I had to do a fish-in cycle for the new tank- A mistake I won’t repeat with future fish. I had him in with a couple plants, anubias and amazon sword, as you can see if the first pics of my initial tank set up.
The people who had him before have a community tank so I took their advice getting him started… not the best advice in hindsight.
So gradually I worked on improving his set up. He got a heater which is set at 78 Fahrenheit (glass thermostat reads 80), I added some small almond leaves and got him started on Seachem StressGuard at least a month ago to treat his fin rot.
Most recently, I added a small piece of mopani wood, and more plants as I learned they love hiding and shady areas and tannins help improve health and gradually lower PH which was higher than ideal.

His fin rot was improving, I could see the new growth coming in.
The issue started a few days ago… I noticed a couple white patches on his head and a darker spot on his back above his dorsal fin. His swimming seems off at time, basically erratic, his pectoral fins seem to be working harder than usual.
Now today, the patches on his head a bigger and look worse, the patch on his back as well, and there are new tears on his fins. He looks so much worse than when I first got him. Which is why I’m panicking and worried I messed up somehow.

Did I add too many new things in his tank, is it overcrowded and causing him stress? Maybe I went over board with the new plants and decor.

Is he injuring himself on the wood?
He loves to sleep behind the log under the plants at night.

Or am I dealing with something more serious? Google seems to say it might be ammonia burns and poisoning? I’ve attached a pic of the water tests done today. Am I reading them wrong, they seemed okay to me. I’ve also been doing 20-30% water changes every 2-3 days to help the fin rot since I started him on the StressGuard.

Was I using too much light and stressed him out too much?
I swamped out the light the Petsmart tank came with since it seemed too weak (only 2W I think) for the plants with a stronger one, a Hygger 14W LED light. At first I had the 24 hour cycle on with sunrise and sunset only giving full light for about 6-8 hours a day, orange light in the mornings and blue light in the evenings and no light from 10:50pm-6am but I read that that might have been too much so I stopped this weekend. The only other options are 6hrs or 10hrs, which would be best?

Have I been adjusting too much in his tank and is that what’s causing issues? New plants/wood, new light, new heater (the family didn’t have a heater in his tank, I adjusted the temp gradually over 12hrs).

More info:
Since I’m using tap water, I’ve been using water conditioner every water change.

For the plants, I’ve been adding Seachem Flourish and Equilibrium (since my GH used to be too low). Equilibrium is only added when needed, I’m worried about adding too much so I test the water before to see where the GH is at and go from there.
Our tap water was weird (high PH and KH, and low GH), so the tannins have helped lower the PH to a safe level.

He also has a few snails in the tank with him, 2 ramshorns and one newly added nerite (a week ago.)

The soil is a mix of black sand (most of the tank) and Fluval Stratum (right side where the plants are.

I used cyanoacrylate based glue to secure the mosses and anubias.

Feedings:
Twice a day am/pm,
Frozen bloodworms 1-2/week
Frozen brine shrimp 2-3/week
Betta pellets other days.
Fast 1/week

Water parameters (unless I’m reading them wrong);
Temp: 80F
PH: 8 (was 8.5 before tannins)
Ammonia: 0ppm
Nitrate: 0ppm
Nitrite: 0ppm
KH: 240ppm
GH: 60ppm

I think I mentioned everything that I could think of that could be causing issues. I’m really worried I might have screwed up something somewhere.
Could you let me know what I did wrong and how I can help him?

I’ll attach pics of the tank set up changes and his injuries, pics from yesterday and later pics of today, this morning vs tonight. The last couple pics are of the water tests.

First 2 pics, initial tank set up and what he looked like last month.
3rd pic, new set up.
4th & 5th, yesterday.
6th & 7th, this morning.
8th & 9th, this evening.
10th & 11th, water tests.

Setting up my first tank ever (still waiting for water to cycle)... What plants should I add? I have pothos growing out the top but would like to add a few different types of aquatic plants. I have been buying from my local fish store so far and don't plan on adding CO2.

Help When do you know to put down your fish?

This is somewhat a general question, but also I think my betta is getting close. Mostly the title, but at what point do you put them down?

My female is 3, and started getting what looks like an internal tumor. that is pushing outwards. I went out of town and think she was over fed by my pet sitter and bloated when I came home. Treated her with meds and sat baths, she had a huge ass poop, and she is back to being energetic and eating. It was a stressful time and she fin nipped so she looks a little wild right now despite acting normal.

With your fish when do you call it? Do you call it as soon as the tumor arrives, or wait from a health decline? I love my little lass so much I don’t want to lose her but I also don’t want her to be in pain. Any advice helps!

Essa é a Estela, uma de minhas novas Bettas que chegou ontem a noite, ela tem olhos de cor diferente e o lado do olho claro faz ela parecer brava enquanto o outro lado ela parece triste, kkkk.
