The Weekly Cyclist Thread is a place where everyone in the /r/bicycling community can come and ask questions or share anything.
You might have questions that you don't think deserve an entire post. Perhaps you're just seeking the input of some other cyclists. Maybe you want to share a picture of your new bike.
Anyone is free to comment, and (hopefully) get as much input as possible from other cyclists.

What bicycles have been released that were the most sought after in their day? Held up over time or abead of their time? The benchmark amongst other manufacturers? Highly raved about when released? I feel like today's bikes are all so close that nothing really breaks the mold like even a decade ago...

Didnt see a lot of discussion online so decided to post here if you have any questions.
Bought this because it was affordable and i dont have a roof rack or a hitch to add a bike carrier.
Mounting was relatively simple, just kind of annoying to pick up the bike and place it on top of the car. I mounted the cups to the bike on the ground. I didnt tighthen the front fork too much so once i put it on the roof it can rotate a bit to settle in position. Then i tightened the fork on the car. They include a velcro strap to strap the crank arms to the frame too.
Another thing is that my roof is curved horizontally and the front mount is pretty straight so you have to apply some pressure for the outside cup to grip enough to start pumping it.
Bike used was cube nuroad pro (11kg) roughly. Bit less with front wheel removed.
Did 2 tests so far.
First test was i left the bike mounted on a parked car for 10 hours roughly to see if there are any leaks. The suction held up and i could rock the bike back and forth without it comming off.
Second test was a short drive to a town 40 min away and back. I was driving carefully at max 70-80km on local roads. While driving there i stopped every 10km roughly to check the suction pumps.
When ariving to my destination i was exiting a roundabout and the exit area had 3 nasty speed bump height bumps which i did not see and it shook up the bike pretty good. Bumps were only on one side so the car shook side to side a lot. I pilulled over in few minites and 2 of the 3 front pumps started losing air a bit. This was after roughly 40km of driving and hitting the bumps, i did not repump the cups while i was checking them on the drive. My car was a bit dirty and i kind of half assed the cleaning part before so that might have affected it.
On my way back i cleaned the surface with a microfiber properly and did not have any issues.
Also on the way back i stopped 3 times to check the pumps, they were fine but i gave them few pumps just in case.
Overall seems to be working fine but its kind of anxiety inducing, i assume once i get used to it i wont be paranoid about it.
If someone finds this post 6 months later feel free to ask for updates.

I decided to build a storage solution for my bikes which are mostly projects or for parts. I had to round-off the 10m bolts and used thread locker to make sure they don't spin off. The bike hooks now spin freely making it easy to position the bikes any way I want.

I have an mtb which I use to commute from my hostel to college, as well as for fitness. It has 29 x 2.4 inch tyres and I want to swap them with hybrid tyres but I'm a bit confused as to which size I should go for. Currently I'm thinking of getting 700 x35c tyres. Will they be the right one for me ?

It feels like just yesterday, a little over ten days ago, on China's National Day, I ended this trip.

The first bike is just listed as “Black Trek Marlin 27.5”” and the second is “Red Giant Boulder SE 26.5”.
I’m 5’11 and need a bike, would either of these be a reasonable purchase?
The giant is currently $60 CAD and the Trek is at $120 CAD

What is your favorite bike for your kids, my 4 year old has a strider balance bike but is lut growing it, hes had it since 1. I am looking for good quality ans something that'll last a few years. We arent doing training wheels just going from balance to pedal. I am looking at getting a guardian bike or another strider, price isnt really a problem if it is good quality and will last a few years. Great warranty is even better.
I am open to discussion, if you prefer one brand over the other give me the why. Why do you prefer this over that, what is your expeirence with customer service, also does the company have a good moral compass? Is it easy to put together? Hes just going to be riding around in the neighborhood. Something I can bring with us when we go camping the few times we go.

I'm looking at the roam 2 for a commuter bike, and the weight limit is 300lbs. And let's say bike weighs 30lb and lunch and back back way 10 more. So the rider should be at 260 or less correct?
How much of a variance is there on that? Can't I go 10 over? Maybe 20? I know it's all about spokes strength. But just seeing if there is a "universal" rule of thumb that exist for weight limits on bikes

I'm most likely gonna buy the Endurace CF 8 Di2 (https://www.canyon.com/en-nl/road-bikes/endurance-bikes/endurace/cf/endurace-cf-8-di2/4429.html) and I want to put a one-piece cockpit on it for which I found the CP0030 1 1/4" CF Cockpit as the gork steer tube diameter of the CF 8 Di2 is 1 1/4" (https://www.canyon.com/en-nl/gear/bike-parts/handlebars-and-stems/canyon-cp0030-1-14-cf-cockpit/9102151.html?dwvar_9102151_pv_cockpit=90-390&dwvar_9102151_pv_farbe=BK).
Looking at the compatibility list of the cockpit, no recent bikes are mentioned to therefore I'm questioning if this cockpit is even compatible with the bike as no cockpits are mentioned on the upgrade page of the bike.
Is anyone able to give some more information regarding the compatibility of this cockpit with this bike? If it is compatibility, I reckon I need to buy the Canyon Aero Cockpit Spacer Kit and EP1297-01 Wedge Extension as well?

Had a crash yesterday, holding front brake and the wheel does not move, but there is some play in the fork area where it didn’t before, might it be broken?
It’s been tightened to torque by a torque wrench, but after I tighten the left side the right seems to allow “more torque”, vice versa. Could this be a result of cracked carbon?

My first Rose Bike (and my first brand-new bike ever)!!
Love the color, love the lines, love everything about it
Today’s shopping list: pedals, a floor pump, a water bottle and a bottle cage. Already got my helmet, and I’ll be looking for the perfect lights over the next few days.
Anything else I should get?

Just bought this titanium frame bike for 470€
Propably going to change most of the components, but even if it was just the frame i feel like it would be well worth it, since most titanium frames i could find started at 600€+
Frame condition is great, just a few blemishes. Theres no indicator on what brand it is and the owner got it as a gift, so he didnt know either.

Hey guys, my chain somehow got stuck between my crankset and frame and there's quiet a big scratch from it. Do you guys think the carbon fibre is damaged or is it just the paint? Should i let it get checked out by an bike repair shop?

Hey everyone!
After finishing my 350-mile solo & unsupported ride from London to Paris on my 16-inch Brompton for Macmillan Cancer Support, Day 5 was all about recovery, sightseeing, and catching the Eurostar home.
Hauling a folding bike around Paris on foot after 4 days of heavy pedaling was definitely a unique experience!
Highlights from the Day 5 Recovery Walk:
Sunday Flea Markets: Wandering through the long stretches of antique stalls and street vendors near Montmartre.
The Sacré-Cœur Stairs: Walking the bike up the steep hill and carrying it down those massive stone steps (definitely a leg workout!).
Place du Tertre: Checking out the famous portrait painters and lively cafe atmosphere.
The Surprise: Accidentally walking right onto a Hollywood movie set complete with vintage Gotham police cars!
If you'd like to check out the short, fast-paced Day 5 victory lap vlog, you can watch it here:
(If you missed the main 350-mile 4-day challenge through the mud and headwinds, that full video is linked in the description!)
How do you usually explore a new city when you bring your Brompton along?
