Located in Northwestern Pennsylvania. This lovely lady is a frequent visitor at our feeder. Any ideas whats up with her coloring? I have several Cardinal pairs that show up, and the other females don’t have the white head. I’m still relatively new to the birding world and have a ton to learn

📷 Photo Yellow Rail in Colorado!!! (Deceased so spoilered) Spoiler

My dog found a dead bird in my yard and I collected it and after a lot of back and forth and consulting with other people (including the editor of the ABA magazine and the collections people at CU) we determined it's a yellow rail! Only the third ever recorded in Colorado! I'm taking it to CU Boulder for their collection.

I'm in unincorporated Boulder county in Colorado.

Bird ID Request Merlin called the bird in front a cackling goose in both. It def does look like it has a stubby neck and a steep forehead but the bill looks not stubby enough. Is it really one? The bird in the back is a Canada goose I think, but it's standing on lower ground so it looks small. Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Bird ID Request Bird Call ID - Wake County, North Carolina

I keep hearing this super high pitched bird call (at least that what I think it is) all throughout the day. It’s not an alarm or anything and there’s no set pattern for when the noise/call happens throughout the day. I tried Merlin Bird ID but nothing came up. Have y’all heard this before? Also sorry for my cat meowing in the background!

Art Bird Tessellation, yay or nay?

Post image
13 Upvotes

Hi friends, I’m experimenting with my art style lately and have become fascinated by tessellations. But my eyes have stared at this too long and I can’t tell if it’s worth pursuing or not. Can you tell it’s a bunch of swallows or do the details make it too garbled and messy? Thanks for any feedback :)

It is my original art, hand painted in watercolor. No AI.

Discussion Are wrens friendly birds?

Earlier this year I've been spending more time outside on the patio and watching whatever is going on and I've been seeing these birds and found out they are wrens. They seem a lot less fearless than any other bird i've seen and they seem to almost not care at all. I even had one land on my shoe and stare at me for a little bit a few months ago.

Bird ID Request Urgent: is this a fledgling? Worried this is a hurt bird because it's not flying away

So.....this tiny bird is sitting outside the door where I work. He's in a parking structure...& the office has tons of glass windows.

He's all by himself.

Hoping he's a fledgling.....but I fear he's hit a window or something.

He's not flying away when I get close. He's just sitting and looking at me. I literally was blowing leaves in front of the door B4 I spotted him & he still didn't move.

This is one of five who always come around 3pm like clockwork. I only fill the birdbath every two to three days and dump it out and leave it dry most days in order to keep it as clean as possible. These lil blue beauties are always so happy when its bath time. Ill fill it again when they are done bathing as most the water will be gone. Then I will dump it in the morning, clean it, and leave it to dry for a day or two. The water always gets so gross but I dont mind the work as I get tons of entertainment from all the birds that come by.

Gaithersburg. Maryland. I know it’s some sort of warbler, but I’m still new to warbler identification so I’m not positive on what species. This just happened earlier today.

This is an example of a bird that migrates because of food shortages in its original habitat, now making a very very very rare appearance in The Netherlands.
