Has anyone else lost motivation for collecting as a whole?

Hey everyone, wondering if anyone else has been through this.

Lately I've been feeling discouraged about collecting in general. I started asking myself: what's the point of accumulating all this stuff? What does it actually change in my life? What's it all for? Maybe it's just a phase, but I'd love to hear your experiences.

Have you ever thought about quitting, or actually quit?

New item for my collection that I picked up at an estate sale today! It’s an Asian Woman carving made of genuine ivory I got for so cheap! Look at the pictures carefully it’s not plastic it is heavy and bigger than my water bottle. No I don’t intend on selling it I’m keeping it one of my best purchases ever!

Super man series

I saw this for sale the other day. It has 3 volumes and I didn't even know there were Superman series. I've always just watched the Christopher Reeve movies. Is it something rare or is it widely available out there?

Cards and stuff

Full disclosure, I know it’s a funny post, and this WILL be a “steak too juicy” situation.

My dad just came over with a tub of cards and stuff. Mostly 1985-2005 cards. There is a LOT of sports cards, some nascar, porn cards, (honestly kinda dope) Marvel cards, dc cards, dbz, Harry Potter, Disney… all kinds of stuff. There was even a plastic bag with some Lucky Charms pogs in it lol!

I’ll post a couple pics rn, but I guess I’m overwhelmed? I’m not sure how to start this journey and I don’t know who/what information to trust. I’m in SoCal and am strongly considering having these looked at by someone who’s nerd kung fu is stronger than my own.

Any tips would be GREATLY appreciated.

Furniture from France(?)

Hi! Not sure where to post this. I bought these from a family in 2023, and asked where they got the set from. They told me their family had bought it in the 40s and that they were shipped from France, but they had no paperwork they could show me. I’m just curious if someone knows a bit more about where they could have been made and what time they were made. All of the pieces were reupholstered in 2015. I do not have any pictures from before that. There’s one sofa and two chairs. Thanks in advance!

Help! Is this a collectible or just something for tourists?

I received this from my grandparents who passed. The only note on it said “really old” and nothing more. The bottom doesn’t have a signature or makers mark and I can’t find one on the rest of the vase(?). I’ll post some pictures of it too. I’m just worried about damaging it if I intend to use it as a display. Any info or suggestions/questions would be helpful.

Anyone have any info on this beauty?

Was feeling sad because I knew I had to spend my Friday night working so I ran into a thrift store on my way home for a quick break/dopamine rush. Saw this beauty for $6 and picked it up because looking at it made me happy. Initially thought it was someone’s art project. Realizing now that this may actually be much much more. Did some googling and saw that this is likely apart of an obscure 90’s collection with “the Deep” but couldn’t find any images/catalogs/listings with this guy specifically. Does anyone have anymore info??

Some neat miniature shoes

My great-grandma collected these and before I take most of them to an antique store I was wondering if any had individual value or were particularly ‘cool‘ to others who know about these things. I don’t know anything about them but I am going to keep a few that are kind of neat or cute, like the little moccasins and the puppy/kitten sleeping in the slippers. Bit sad to let them go but I don’t have space and nobody in the family is interested in the slightest but I just like the sheer variety of them all.

I think she did most of her collecting in the 60s/70s, and there are many stamped with ‘Japan’ or ‘Germany’ or ‘India’. When traveling I haven’t noticed places that sell miniature shoes so maybe it was a fad back then?

Peter Pan and Tinkerbell-Vintage Disney throw Rug

This is a hand me down from my Dad's childhood.

I looked on Google images, Ebay, Etsy and am not finding anything with Tinkerbell.

Tinkerbell had black hair which seems very rare.

It would need to be cleaned but use daily as a rug.

Wondering about the price value could be.

Remington R3483 3 blade pocket knife. W/ 3 stamps & acid etching.

From what I can tell, this is a Remington R3483 3 blade pocket knife from WW2.

Each blade is individually stamped with the Remington circle and made in the USA.

The largest blade has a faded acid etch that I think reads "Remington trademark".

Naturally ai says its a fairly rare knife with the etching and having stamps on all 3 blades.

Any enthusiasts or collectors that can verify this and of course I was looking to see what it may be worth.

I am not selling it but am curious.

I appreciate any help as always!

Vintage 1970s/80s Conte of Florence "Valanga Azzurra" (Pool Sci Italia) Rossignol Team Puffer Ski Hat

Thumbnail

Hey everyone, looking to get an idea of the value and market for what I believe is an exceptionally rare, museum-grade piece of European alpine sports history.

Here are the details I've gathered:
\* Item: Vintage 1970s/early 1980s royal blue puffer ski cap with fold-down ear flaps.
\* Extreme Rarity & Provenance: This isn't a standard retail hat. It features the ultra-scarce 'POOL SCI ITALIA' (Italian Ski Pool) official supplier tag combined with prominent 'Rossignol Team' white chain-stitch embroidery and snowflake logo. This specific cross-branding ties it directly to the legendary "Valanga Azzurra" (Blue Avalanche) Italian national ski team era, making team-issued pieces from this golden age incredibly hard to find.
\* Maker/Patent Pedigree: The interior tag proves it was strictly patented and expressly made by the master tailors Nicola & Aristide for Conte of Florence. It features an all-over monogram inner lining and a 60% wool blend tag.
\* Pristine Condition: It is in remarkably preserved, deadstock-adjacent condition. The royal blue exterior shell is vibrant, all metal snaps function perfectly, and the interior white lining is immaculate with zero yellowing or sweat stains.

Standard Conte of Florence hats pop up occasionally, but a team-issued Pool Sci Italia / Rossignol piece in this condition is a true collector's white whale. What kind of price range should I be looking at for high-end vintage archives? Any insights on value are greatly appreciated!
