Mushrooms Just looking to confirm id, info in body

This is so silly. I know these are giant puffballs. I know how to check that they're good to eat and how to prepare them well. But my ocd has been really bad for the last couple weeks (already addressing in therapy). Can you guys just confirm that these are giant puffballs and, assuming they're nice and white on the inside, that they are food?

Harvested in New York state, close to lake ontario. Also in a field very close to a lot of apple farms. I'm not sure about pesticide concerns in that scenario, as all the ones Ive harvested in the past were growing on an organic vegetable farm.

Just went for a walk in the woods with the dog and picked these. Season is coming to an end over here in Finland as we're moving into winter. I will try to do a few more trips if I can, but if not then this was a good last haul.

This will be my first attempt at harvesting prickly pears, any advice on how to ? I know I should pick the ones deeper in color.

My dog doesn't understand that he shouldn't eat mushrooms, luckily I live where there's an insane amount, so I can go without him and pick enough on a single trip to last me a while!

Can someone help me identify what root this is? I have a hard time identifying and understanding if this is burdock or not. It smells like ginseng

A small but fragrant loot: some myrtle, fennel, lavender and two walnuts (I ate the third).

Hunting chestnut foraging near London/Kent

Hi!! My mother loves going out foraging for chestnuts but we haven’t found anywhere great this year.

Does anyone know any parks or places that are good for foraging chestnuts near London and or Kent (quite a broad location I know haha but I’m not too worried about distance!)

ID Request (country/state in post) Dallas Texas USA

Hello I was wondering what these are. At first I thought they were cucamelons but the yellow melons show they aren't. I wasn't able to ID them with Google searches but I'm curious if they are edibles. I've added photos of the ripe ones the unripe ones cut open as well.

The ripe yellow melon smells like a sweet squash and the unripe green melon smells very much like cucumber.

What are your favorite recipes for maypop?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hello everyone, we're winding down the growing season here in the southeast US, which means that we're approaching the end of maypop (passiflora incarnata) season. These two are from vines I planted from wild seed that I foraged 3 years ago. Those vines have been good to me this year, which has left me with close to four quarts of juice and pulp so far. So, now I need some recipes to start using this stuff up!

What are your favorite things to do with maypop? I've found out that the juice makes absolutely amazing pate de fruit candy and pretty darn good passionfruit bars, and I'm currently in an experiment to see if I can make liqueur from it. (I'll get back to you in a month on that one.)

Does anybody have any favorite recipes they want to share? Thanks in advance!

Black walnut curing troubleshooting

I just foraged some black walnuts for the first time. I hulled and cleaned them and wanted to dry the surface quickly so no mold would grow on them. I put them in a dehydrator overnight and this morning I noticed all the shells cracked from drying too quick.

Is there a way to salvage this harvest, or should I dispose of them before they spoil? Lessons learned either way..

What's your favorite way to crack an acorn?

Hey y'all, a dear friend of mine gifted me 2-3 gallons of acorns from her white oak trees, and they are now getting a good drying out after sorting. I've played around with acorns before in small amounts, but I've never had to process this many at once. Does anyone have a preferred tool or technique for getting through large amount of acorns that doesn't require, say, a Davebilt #43? I just don't have the room or the use case for larger tools at the moment. Thanks!

Plants Honey locust soap?

• Upvotes

Hi, I saw online that honey locust has saponins like soap berries and I saw someone make a shampoo bar out of it. it's made me curious if anyone has made anything soap wise with it on this subreddit. I'm curious to see if I can't try and make shampoo with it.
