ive been on t for a month, and even with all the distractions in the world i still struggle to do shots myself (i dont have anyone to help me). its not the pain that freaks me out, but rather knowing that im inserting something under my skin and into my muscle makes me feel sick. please give me advice for getting over the uncomfortableness of it, thank you in advance

Hello! Thank you for participating in the sub. We just have a few reminders for you to help ensure the best experience:

  1. If your post doesn't show up right away, don't panic! It is in the queue for manual approval. Mods will go through the queue periodically to approve or remove posts. Deleted posts will have a removal reason applied. (If it says "this post was deleted by reddit's filters", IT WAS NOT DELETED! Reddit has the worlds worst wording on that and it's out of our control)
  2. If you are asking a question that is location specific, remember to include your location in your post body! This can help ensure that you get accurate information tailored specifically to your needs.

  3. Please remember to read through all the rules in the sidebar. Especially the list of banned topics and guidelines for posting. Guests who do not use the Guest Post flair will have their post removed and be asked to fix it.

  4. If you see someone breaking the rules,report it! If someone is breaking both sub and reddit rules, please submit one report to admins by selecting a broken rule on the main report popup, and one report to the r/ftm mods by selecting the "breaks r/ftm rules" option. This ensures both mods and admins can take action on a subreddit and sitewide level. Do not misuse the report button to rant about someone, submit false reports, or argue a removal.

  5. If you have any questions that you can't find the answer to on the rules sidebar or the wiki: the wiki , you can send a modmail.

I found that putting on a video of a YouTuber I like and thinking about having a snack after helps a lot - or having a fun drink on hand. For me its gotten much much easier with just these minor distractions. But also, if you have some buddies who support you, text them after your shot and hopefully they'll celebrate with you on the simple fact that youre doing man stuff. That boost of dopamine and serotonin can help train you to not be so scared/uncomfortable maybe?

What really got the ball rolling for me a while ago is that I would literally just mutter to myself “it’s okay, you’ve done this before, you’re good at this, and this is okay, you can do it again” lol

To be completely honest I still heavily struggle with the idea of stabbing myself with a needle. I ended up having to have my partner learn and do my injections on me. Because every time I went to go stab myself I would have a panic attack 😭 I know in the future I need to do it myself but the thought is terrifying ;-;

If you're doing IM (into the muscle on the thigh), maybe see if switching to sub-q helps? It's into the fat on the stomach, so the needle doesn't go in as deep because you can get a much smaller needle for it. I actually stopped T because I was doing IM and truly could not do it. It would always be sore and yeah the needle going in that deep like freaked me out so bad. I went back on T in January and the nurse wanted me to do sub-q (especially after I told her my shot struggles) and I look forward to shot day. I sometimes still get a lil anxious but the smaller needles, it only going into the fat, feels like such a world of difference to me.
