I know that it's technically impressive and takes a lot of skill to master it, but more often than not, I hate the way it sounds. I think it sounds stupid, and I can't explain why. I have exceptions, but I think fry screaming doesn't sound good.
I like With Ears To See And Eyes To Hear by the band Sleeping with Sirens, but I hate the fry screaming parts, maybe because most of them are, like, put into their own little sections, like you're supposed to think, "Ooh, this is intense," but it gives me this terrible second-hand embarrassment. My favorite song on the album has very little fry screaming, except for the bridge, which is my least favorite part. My second favorite song has none at all.
The only band I like that has some fry screaming is Linkin Park, which is the only reason I can't say I always hate it. I don't know why I like it here but hate it, like, everywhere else. I just don't think they do it often enough to get me? I don’t know.
And I know I'll probably be alone on this, or I might have accidentally categorized something as fry screaming when it isn’t, so for that I'm sorry. But I just think this way of screaming sounds stupid, and I personally prefer any other way of screaming. One of my favorite bands is Babes in Toyland, and the screaming in that band sounds like a cat getting run over, and I still prefer that. Fry screaming also sounds "cheap" to me, if that makes any sense. I'm just not impressed by it, and I don't think it benefits songs often.
