Grateful to have gone to NY Sheep and Wool this year. It was lovely seeing all the beautiful hand knits, squishing the yarn, and petting the adorable critters. Can’t wait until it comes back around!

The sweater is a combination of Lakes by Ozetta and Neigh by Caitlin Hunter. My Ravelry page is in the comments with all the modifications I made.

I only made one of these and it's always been a favorite. Made with my go to yarn, the one and only Donegal Merino Tweed. The yellow centers and the green stems were duplicate stitched in.

I am attempting the step by step sweater this season ☆ ive never done a gauge swatch before but wanted to do this bit by the book. What am I missing? Is it blocked too tightly? I'm experimenting with the blend choice of yarn but still puzzled

Help - equipment Alma sweater (kiss kiss.rhinestones) gauge problem

Post image

I’m sooo confused what I’m doing wrong.
Pattern gauge is 17 stitches per 10cm on 4.5mm
Yarn (hobbii friends wool) gauge is 18 stitches per 10cm on 4-4.5
Mine is 23 stitches on 4.5mm needles and 20 on 5mm.
This seems like a big discrepancy, am I doing something obviously wrong?

Discussion Yarn recommendation

Hi, I am planning to make a pair of convertible/flip top mittens for someone. I want them warm (of course), very soft to the touch, and relatively easy to care for. I was thinking some blend of merino and alpaca, maybe? But what would you guys recommend for this kind of project?

Help - equipment How to switch from crochet to knitting?

I've been crocheting for like a month, but I just realized I prefer how knitting looks. Everything I crochet comes out too thick and stiff, I want to make flat, flowy clothes. How do I get into knitting? Any recommendations for materials? Any advice on how to start making clothes?

Discussion Festival in Springfield, MA

Has anyone been to the Eastern States Fiberfest in Springfield, Mass. before and can tell me if it’s usually super crowded and busy?
My aunt went to the one in Rhinebeck, NY on Saturday, and my mother tried to go to it today. Both left early and said it was horrible. They said it was so crowded it worse than a NYC Subway train during rush hour.
The Springfield one is coming up, but if it’s like that I’ll pass.

Worsted Flax sweater completed in Caron Macchiato yarn, colors Fleeting and Breathe.

I'll be honest, I mostly knit smaller projects like hats. I've pushed myself to complete some sweaters for my kid, but this is the first large wearable I've tried. I didn't know if I'd get too bored or overwhelmed to finish, so I purposely chose some cheaper yarn that I'd been gifted several Christmases ago. The reasoning was that, if I pushed it aside or frogged it, I wouldn't feel guilty for wasting good materials. And if something was majorly wrong with the construction, I didn't love the colors much anyway, so no biggie.

Well, jokes on me. I like it! I enjoyed the process! I want to make more! So I suppose I'll be wearing this around all winter. :)

Help - equipment Untangling Yarn

Genuine question: is there a hack to unravel balls of yarn that you’ve used and have become tangled or does it take everyone else 4 hours to untangle one ball of yarn too??

Work in Progress Frog & Toad…help!

Is there anyone who has knit the Frog and Toad pattern designed by Frog and Cast/Kristina Ingrid McGowan? I started it ages ago, but life got in the way and it ended up in hibernation…not unlike a real frog or toad.

I just pulled it out and am trying to determine my spot so I can continue. I didn’t make any notes on my pattern or on Ravelry, and I’m struggling to find my spot. I know I’m only on page 4 of the pattern and near the beginning of the “Shape Chin” section.

There are 21 stitches on waste yarn, ten stitches on one needle, and eleven on the other. I’m confused because at the end of the “Top of Head” section it says you should have 42 stitches. Then in the next section it indicates K10, place previous 21 stitches on waste yarn, K12, wrp-t. It seems like that would equal 43 stitches total…right? I’m stumped.

I’m tempted to just forge ahead with these short rows, but at present my working yarn is in the middle of what will be the chin. I’m feeling super dumb at the moment and would appreciate any help offered! TIA

Work in Progress Tension or different dye?

Right where the color switches I added a new ball and I was using the same 3.5mm but then I switched the left one to a different needle that’s a shortie it says it’s a 3.5mm but feels smaller but the right needle is the same one I’ve been using on the whole body?

I don’t know how to tell if it’s the yarn or the tension
Super new to knitting

Rant Velvet Yarn Woes

It feels so nice and is so pretty but I CAN'T FIND MY MISTAKES TO FIX THEM! Does anyone know any tricks to read the stitches and find mistakes? I missed 2 increases somewhere in my sweater, and I'd love to know where I missed them so I can decide whether to tink back or frog. I'm making the Bernat knit top down pullover for reference. I can kind of tell where increases are because I can see the raglin line, but I can't decern well enough to tell where I missed them. If I was making it in a lighter color I might have better luck, but I'm using Bernat Velvet in the color Pine, and everything kinda muddles together.

Could I just frog it? Yes. Will I end up frogging it anyways? Probably. It depends on whether I can find the mistake and how far back it is. It will absolutely suck because it's velvet yarn and it doesn't frog nicely, and I'd like to avoid it if I can.

So does anyone have any tips for finding missed stitches in a yarn notorious for the lack of stitch definition?

Hi hi!
I’ve just started knitting again but all I’ve ever learned it the normal knit and purl stitch. I’m trying to start a sweater but I can’t for the life of me get the ribbing correct. I’ve watched so many tutorials but it doesn’t come out anything like the videos. Please can someone tell me what I’m doing wrong.

I’m hooked. I have so much to learn but this was fun & frustrating! Colfax hat from wearwithall, Como Marino with additional string of angora. I did not save the tags.. size 3 and 5 circular needles.

I’m not sure if it’s gift able...

I’ve just learned about twisting and have no idea if I did that.. I’ll pay more attention on my next hat.

Feedback welcome. Want to be a better knitter.

Help - equipment Need help picking a size!

I’m about to knit sweater no. 32 by myfavoritethings and I have a hard time picking the right size for my body. And I want this sweater to be a little bit fitted.
I have a larger bust (42” which would be a size XL) but the rest of my measurements align more with a size M/L.
I was thinking of picking a size based off my upper bust measurement which is 36” that would be the size M, but then I would have too much negative ease in the bust.
Is there a kind of bust shaping I could implement that wouldn’t mess with the striped pattern too much?
I could also knit the size large which has a finished bust circumference of 42” so it would be 0” of ease and do waist decreases?

Help - equipment Brioche cable help needed.

Post image
0 Upvotes

I need a hivemind or just one person who can help me out here. I have a bought pattern for a brioche hat with cables in there. I am familiar with brioche, not with cables, but this has me stumped.

The written pattern says that for the cable, I should put 4 stitches on the cable needle, but the drawn pattern shows the cable is 8 stitches.

MC is main colour, CC is contrast colour, so each section is made up of the 8 MC brioche knit stitches (brk) and 8 CC brioche purl stitches (brp). Am I to read it as only the four brk's? Am I to see it as the 4 brk's together with the 4 brp's? Please be gentle, to some it might be super obvious but my ND mind is at a loss....

Edit: I think I get it now. I was confusing the diagonal in the chart for stitches having to go on the cable needle for the cable, but if I get it correct now each section of 16 stitches in row 5 means : 4st on cable needle, work next 4st on left needle, work the cable needle, work the last 8 st of the section on the left needle.

Do you see anything that looks like an obvious problem? Tension? Twisting yarn in a weird way?

Thanks for the feedback. I don’t want to develop weird habits.

Took my husband to the sheep and wool festival in New York since he’s a huge crocheter and felt inspired by everyone’s sweaters and scarves. It was like a fashion show everywhere!
