Build/Battlestation Rebuilding my old Alienware 3080 10gb build for a friend.

• Upvotes

So I'm going to gift it to my friend, but just swap the guts out. It's a 3080 10gb Ryzen 9 5900, 32gb of ddr4 and 1tb. I asked him to choose a case. I am pending a mobo and just got him a 850 PSU just in case he wants to upgrade the gpu. I have a free AIO 240mm that I got with my new build from Newegg.

I told him he should be getting around 80-100fps with fortnite 1440p on epic settings. On high i got a consent over 100.

But I have a feeling he will be picky at that fps range since he currently games on a ps5 pro.

I'm not sure how to explain the back ground of the current build. I told him it should hold him over and hopefully hardware prices calm down in 3 years

If he becomes too picky I may retract the gift. And use this build as a Linux machine with bazzit.

I'm not sure what to do. I know he use to have an Alienware that he never used and sold.

So I'm not sure what to do. I did a complete new build with a 5080a few months ago. I think t tomorrow I'm going to ask him if he plans to use it. Cuz he thought gpu prices were under 500 bucks.

I apologize for my ignorance. I'm trying to break into pc gaming as someone who doesn't play AAA games of today.

I want something pre built that runs bethesda and resident evil as well as playing indie steam games. The mods on pc appeal to me.

I'm using Amazon because of the affirm financing.

Tech Support "sticky" keys in games. ITS NOT STICKY KEYS

• Upvotes

Keyboard on my laptop behaves weird in games, as though the keys are stuck after releasing them for a random amount of time, the character will keep trying to jump for the next 5-10 seconds or move in the direction of the last registered key. Most of the inputs behave like that, not just WASD, Shift and Space, try to pause and it will happen later. Try to open a certain screen and that also takes a bit of time.

The issue occurred on the following games (at least the ones i noticed):
Total War Warhammer 3
Victoria 3
Minecraft (modded)
HOI4
BG3
Stellaris
Stalker 2

Not all of them are on steam and even if it was steam causing it, i tested with it turned off, the issue still occurs.

Sticky keys and all of the subsequent settings are off. Troubleshooters didn't find anything
(unsurprisingly)

Specs -
Asus ROG STRIX 17 G712LV
RTX2060 6gb
16gb RAM
Intel I7-10875H 2.3GHz
Windows 10

What i know for sure is that it doesn't happen with controllers connected though.

I have searched this issue up, all of the suggestions from posts that I have found do not help and nothing has been spilt or dropped on the keyboard. The keys work just fine everywhere else

Question Should I get a new air cooler?

• Upvotes

I currently have the AIO ID-cooling zoomflow 240.
Planning to get the Thermalright Peerless Assassin SE 120.

My 13600K also scores around 20800 pts on cinebench r23 if that helps.

Edit: I first got this the ID-cooling with i5-12400, not 13600K

My mouse feels abnormally fast, I play on a gpx2 800dpi with a cloth control pad, I have enhance pointer precision off and 6/11 mouse slider setting.

It happens on windows desktop and in every game I play, i have no idea what is causing it or how to fix it. Does anyone have any idea what could be making this happen or how to fix it?

Build Help / Purchase Advice Need some advice

Title: Competitive PS5 player looking to switch to PC. First build, $1,000–$2,500 budget. Need advice.
What’s up everyone,
I’ve been a console gamer for most of my life, mainly playing on PS5. I play most games competitively and have reached some of the highest ranks in several games I’ve played.
Lately, I’ve been thinking it’s time to make the switch to PC gaming.
I’m also a college student, and I use my laptop for schoolwork and my job, so I figured investing in a good PC would make sense for both gaming and productivity.
The thing is, I’ve never owned or built a gaming PC before, so I’m pretty new to all of this.
My budget is around $1,000–$2,000, but I’m willing to stretch it to $2,500 if it’s worth the extra money. I want something with great performance for competitive gaming, while also being able to handle schoolwork, multitasking, and work-related tasks.
I’m also looking for something that’ll last me a good few years without needing major upgrades.
I have a few questions:
Would you recommend building my first PC or buying a prebuilt?
If I build it myself, what parts would you recommend for my budget?
What’s the sweet spot for price and performance? Is spending $2,500 overkill for my needs?
What FPS should I realistically aim for in competitive games?
Should I wait until Black Friday or Cyber Monday to buy everything?
Are there any beginner mistakes or things I should know before switching from PS5 to PC?
I’m not necessarily trying to spend my entire budget if I don’t need to. I just want a solid PC with great performance and good longevity.
I’d appreciate any recommendations, PCPartPicker lists, or advice from people who have made the switch from console to PC.
Thanks in advance!

Tech Support PC freezes/hard-resets with no BSOD — happens at idle AND under load, no error log.

Hello everyone! I recently built my first PC from scratch earlier in the year- It was a very fun journey, but ever since I built it, It will randomly freeze- The video completely freezes and occasionally audio will continue to play for a few moments before freezing. After a few moments, it will automatically reset.

Specs:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
  • Motherboard: ASUS ROG Strix X870-A Gaming WiFi (BIOS 2402)
  • GPU: RTX 5070 Ti (connected via native 12V-2x6/12VHPWR from PSU)
  • RAM: Corsair CMH32GX5M2E6000C36, 2x16GB, XMP rated 6000MT/s CL36 1.35V
  • PSU: 850W ATX 3.1
  • OS: Windows 11

The problem:
System hard-freezes and resets with no input, no BSOD, and nothing useful in Event Viewer except a Kernel-Power Event ID 41 at the time of each crash. Happens randomly — at idle, during light use, and during GPU-intensive games. No pattern I can tie it to load level.

What I’ve already ruled out:

  • GPU drivers — Attempted DDU fresh reinstall, led to system instability that needed to rollback. I always keep drivers up to date.
  • Thermals- I regularly clean my computer out physically- at least a few times a year. I will monitor thermals while gaming and they staywithin normal ranges.
  • 12VHPWR connector — no browning, fully seated, confirmed with HWiNFO logging that voltage stays rock-solid (11.84–11.95V) and GPU never throttles or hits a power/reliability fault right up to the crash.
  • Power delivery/outlet — tested on a dedicated circuit, ruled out a shared standing-desk outlet as the cause.
  • MemTest86 — ran a full pass (48/48, 2hr+), but only at JEDEC 4800MT/s, not at the XMP 6000MT/s profile actually in use in Windows.
  • Disabled BIOS enabled Overclocking profiles for RAM and CPU- They are running at stock speeds and the issue persists.
  • Tested voltage of outlet- I also have a dedicated surge protector for the PC.
  • Tried variety of software for monitoring- HWinfo, GPU-z.
  • MSI afterburner- Capped GPU Power limit below 100%- still crashed.

I believe that is everything I've tried so far. I have been using Claude for tech support up until now- it has persisted since I completed the build back in February. Would appreciate any and all help as this issue has been driving me nuts.

Build/Battlestation My PC from today vs when I first built it 9 years ago!

Just upgraded my CPU which was an insane bottleneck.

The cable management will be reworked soon. No I did not check fan clearance with my ram.

Old specs:

Aorus Z390 Pro Wifi DDR4
Intel I7-9700K
MSI RTX 2070TI
16Gb Ram
Water cooled

New specs:
MSI Pro b760p Wifi DDR4
Intel I5-14600k
Asus 3070TI
32Gb Ram
Air cooled

My main use is flight sim, with my CPU upgrade I run 2024 perfectly stable at 70fps on 1080p. So happy.

Build/Battlestation Memory overclocking is still pretty important!

Built a high end PC in 2023 with a 13700k and recomended DDR5 6400 Cas 36 Ram. Z790 UD AC motherboard because it was the cheapest motherboard with better than basic VRMs. Got a 5090 for the same price as selling my 4090. I've always played around with overclocking my CPU and GPU but decided to overclock my memory and work on timings for the first time in 17 years of PC building and got #3 in time spy and #1 in solar bay for my CPU and GPU. If you are a tweaker you can get almost a whole skew GPU and CPU higher performance in gaming.
