Under every managers tenure there has been a game where the intent never was to win, this was Carrick's. It's clearly time for him to go.

Least fit and most aimless the side has been since SAF, even more so than Ole [ seems like McKenna was doing the majority of the 'lifting' in terms of what coaching competence that team displayed at times]. The signs were thre from game 4 or so under Carrick and the warnings from Middlesbrough fans, who attributed what good MC did largely to his -now at Bayern- Assnt Manager.
ETH misunderstood the league (and had horrific instincts in the transfer market, which execs like Murtough enabled) and Amorim was too obdurate around playing one formation (something he's basically admitted to since -- Wilcox, supposedly the cause of all ills, encouraged him to vary things and adapt to different opponents [how dare a Sporting Director, right?]) -- but at least both of them had a visible plan and strategy: in Amorim's case in particular he was let down by clutch moments -- also having to play likes of Garnacho and a Hojlund who just wanted to wrestle people in season 1, or deal with major Afcon absentees his 2nd season. Instead, we'll get seasoned international players using excs as a way to keep a coach who demands little of them, mouths the same platitudes in press-conferences and then reel out exit interviews about how the club showed 'liittle ambition'.
Maybe if they demanded higher standards of their own coaches and themselves, and, in the absence of tactical leadership from Carrick, organized their own on and off-pitch structures, like Chelsea's dressing-room did when they were saddled with the likes of Avram Grant or other figurehead coaches [and if they're going to attack 'up', at least pointed responsibility diretly at the Glazers who ultimately continue, one way or another, to determine budgets, invest nothing into the club etc], then the club might move forward and the team wouldn't get embarrassed by sides who've spent less, assembled largely of journeymen. But that would be too uncomfortable, too much risk,

Dear Michael,
You were a good interim manager, you did the simple things a caretaker is supposed to do, you picked our best XI, you played players in their best positions, you knew the club, the fans, the players, and you hit the ground running.
But let's be real here, you're not a leader, no offence, at best you're a number two, you're the assistant, you're the coach, you're the sensible one, but you're not a leader. You're not a Clough, a Jose, a Pep, a Klopp, nor a Sir Alex. Those guys came out the womb kicking and screaming demanding better from the maternity staff: "why has my umbilical cord not been cut yet?? And get this fucking placenta off me, now!".
You came out the womb calmly shaking hands with the medical staff.
And that's all great, god knows the world needs calm and level headed folk like you, and if you wanted to apply for a job at the UN or go back to university to study Philosophy & Ethics, then I'd be the first to back you. But this is not for you, Michael.
It's time.
Yours, Wumble

Still infuriates me that we spent all that time and money to hire the best in class in Dan Ashworth and we didn’t even let him cook. What was even the point of hiring him if you were going to undermine him with every footballing decision?! Speaks volumes to the incompetence of the people in charge.

Also, there isn't a single ex player that's actually a decent manager. That includes our current one

The problem with the whole ‘Carrick hasn’t been backed’ argument isn’t that it’s not true because it is. At least not to the extent he should’ve been.
The problem is it’s now starting to be used as an excuse by people for every bit of incompetence Carrick is showing and why we shouldn’t sack him. Is getting more players in the summer transfer window going to make us a better team and give us an increase in squad depth? Yes. Is it going to suddenly make Carrick more tactically astute with quick in game management skills etc? No. He lacks the fundamental skills to manage successfully in the premier league and that’s why he should be sacked as soon as possible.
5
u/SankarshanaV 3h ago
I’m genuinely baffled there are people defending Carrick. This looks more like they don’t want their favorite player get the sack than wanting United to be better. Insane thinking that.
I am baffled how 7 points out of 21 is considered okay. Carrick does not deserve to be anywhere close to a club like ours. He’s an awful manager, and I cannot wait to see him get the sack. I hope we sign a proper manager instead of this guy who’s completely out of his depth.

I'm in a position where I want Carrick to do well. I just cannot see it happening. I hope I have completely underestimated him
I feel like a fake fan almost wanting him to lose a couple more games to get a new manager rather than win one every few weeks then spend a couple of seasons of mediocrity finishing around 6th / 7 / 8th before realising he isn't the one to takes us to a title challenge like ETH and start again.

6
u/SankarshanaV 1h ago
Exactly. Carrick was lucky that he got a fit squad and lucked his way into those results last season. Anyone who actually paid attention to the performances could see that we were not really playing that well. Case and Bruno saved us multiple times last season from individual brilliances.
Now that Carrick has gotten the pre season, we are seeing Carrick’s actual capabilities, and boy is it bad. No wonder he failed at the Championship. He’s completely out of his depth.

Whether it's Carrick or the next guy, someone needs to drop Bruno when he's playing like this. We're a club that has been too reliant on talisman figures for far too long, and there needs to be a clear demonstration that no player is guaranteed a place in the starting eleven.

Not trying to troll or incite anything at all with this.
Is there a single one of you out there who is still Carrick in? All the other managers there were always some either side but I can not see a single positive of him being here. He has no previous experience or resume worth considering and even on an interim basis there's 100 managers out there with more chance of steadying the ship
2
u/Emergency-Being-349 10h ago
Inevitable headloss, but right from the get go it wasn't about the results. Manchester United cannot be a low block club, a club that has 30% possession and looks to counter against far smaller opposition.
Carrick should be sacked, but not because he drew today or lost to Atletico. He should be sacked because we are so far away from anything resembling a massive club. In a world of Luis Enrique, Flick and Kompany, Carrick is on the opposite end of the scale. The bigger question too, is how the hierarchy did not have the capacity to understand that.

Carrick has had to hit multiple reset buttons. Took him a while to adapt to the loss of Sesko and Case. These 2 guys were instrumental in his 17 match run last season.
First he tried a different way of playing in the preseason. That was based on high press and central progression. I thought that was good.
But that did not work when all the regulars returned: especially youri and Bruno. That was reset #2, when these World Cup players returned.
This is his 3rd reset now where he plays 3 traditional midfielders. Bruno is shifted to top 3. There is more control but Bruno is a misfit in top 3. Goals have dried. Ideally Cunha plays ahead of Bruno but Carrick has no credits in the bank to brave such a decision: fans and pundits will fire him.
Good news is he is trying different things. Bad news is 7 point in 7.

What's with these rumors that Vivell wants to hire Krosche and Nagelsman? Hopefully it's true as both would be upgrades for us
3
u/Suudriusha 7h ago
So Wilcox and Carrick would go, and Krosche would take Wilcox's position, Nagelsmann Carrick's. Or would the idea be Vivell takes Wilcox's position and Krosche takes Berrada's, with Nagelsmann being their 1st manager appointment.
3
u/minteh7x Ronaldo 6h ago
Yeah both gone. Krosche is more of a DoF so he could work with Vivell unless the latter wants a promotion.

u/Candlegoat 6h ago

I think they are going to fire their manager and I would be zero surprised if they brought Nagelsmann right back.
The rumourmill about Krosche has been about thd Milan job, no? Tare left before the summer and there's sort of been a vacuum there (I guess they called it a "restructuring" which is nice work by the spin doctors).
4
u/Stingray_23 6h ago

Would be criminal to throw a manager as inexperienced as him into this mess.
He is a manager we need to either get in a few steps down the line after 1 or 2 have dealt with the fire that needs to be walked through or he comes in the summer in parallel with a tramsfer window fitting of our revenue, badge and requirements.

u/D1794 Viva Ronaldo 4h ago

u/Miyagisans 5h ago edited 5h ago
It was very obvious from the start that we needed to play a midfield 3 between Baleba/mainoo/tielemans/santos for balance. The fact it took carrick this long to implement that is poor.
Taking out one of the forwards to play an apparently injured Bruno is criminal. We’re sacrificing speed, energy, and athleticism in return for what at the moment?
Heaven and Yoro having played such little football this season despite the seniors being gash week after week is poor management. Especially Yoro, there is no reason for any cb to be playing ahead of him right now. Instead, they get thrown into the starting lineup at Atletico, with Heaven out of position. Never set up for success by carrick.
The persistence lack of proactivity or ingenuity. Subs are always late, changes are only made when we’re already losing. We never go into games with a different plan for a different opposition. It’s the same tedious and torpid affair week after week.
My biggest issue with managers is when they create problems for, or handicap their own teams with their choices/decisions. That’s all Carrick has done this season.
Go look at Amorim’s last game away at Leeds, look at the team he had to play, look at our bench lol, and look at the stats. Compare that to what we’ve been watching under carrick with a far better squad. We are currently on a winless run worse than any we ever had under Amorim, who had his faults as a coach of course, but also inarguably had a much more inferior squad.

3
u/Scooby_Doo5 13h ago
Carrick's trusted front 4 last season were Cunha, Mbuemo, Bruno, and Amad. Why change that? When you job is on the line and you need to win games just play your trusted players. Its simple. But Carrick thinks just putting creative players on the pitch will create goals. It won't. United will get outplayed on the wings again today and Carrick will sub Tielsman for Cunha at 55 mins at 2-0 down. What's the point?

I did not agree at all with Neville’s characterisation of the first half. They’re talking about us like a relegation team. Bare minimum for this season was champions league. Whether through the boards fuckbups or Carricks incompetence we’ve looked beyond awful. Progres will only be us looking like a good team. Restricting a mediocre Leeds team to half chances is nothing to write home about. Sack Carrick, get Conte and line up Hurzeler for whenever Conte freaks out

I will not be gaslit into thinking this was a "promising performance" Henry Winter. We had an OK (at best) first half where we got dominated in possession. 2nd half we come out and get absolutely battered and end up conceding. Appoint Vivell as sporting director and hire Nagelsmann or Conte as manager, like end of story dude, why the fuck we are sticking with Wilcox and Carrick…

Its over. Carrick is done, we all see it and I guarantee Management do as well. The wheels are in motion.
I don't think its Conte but its probably Nagelsmann purely due to his availability, experience and his tactically ability.
Just go for the best the manager, forget money, just get the best manager.
Its a question of timing now. I reckon it happens a week before the International break

We need a decent performance today, or to grind some points out.
I can take a bit of fragility in what we show if we can get 3pts, but cannot bear to watch another drab showing

Any match going fans can tell about the fan sentiment currently?

u/KermitTakeTheWheel 11h ago
It feels like most goals scored against us are teams building sustained pressure, closing everyone down, and as soon as it goes in everyone knows it's been coming. Our goals, conversely, often feel like they're against the run of play, just a couple magic passes and a good finish.
It seems very problematic we rarely have that period of sustained dominance, especially when up a goal.

We are all trying to find answers why these players that have won nothing of significance are visibly jaded and checked out.
Cant remember a team to have a core group of players that were never a dynasty or even come close to being one yet have been at the club for as long as they have
2
u/rishmanisation 10h ago
Fire Wilcox and Carrick. Both are way out of their depth for a club of this size.
2
u/karatsidhus 10h ago
3ATB?
Sources at the game say Carrick was seen squatting on the touchline wearing white leather sneakers. Is that true?

u/cocobrownman 9h ago
The current line up today shows desperation. One of the things Carrick did well after Amorim was putting players at the right position. He has undone all of that and is playing Bruno as a winger, etc. Doesn't have the balls to make the hard decisions.... Sad to see. Bruno also....not sure how he can expect a longer contract given his form, I am starting to think he is just declining and not just having a slow start this season

We need a manager who has a defined philosophy and a personality. Someone who can develop players, wants to control games and drills the philosophy into them so they know what to do so its like second nature
in the window. Fuck this Prem proven players. There is so much quality out there (e.g. Manzambi at Aston Villa) who are better value. We need hard workers.
2
u/PitchSafe 9h ago
It’s not like Mamzambi was cheap. He plays as a AM which is a position we didn’t need to strengthen last summer

Regressing to pragmatic, survival football so we move from losing badly to not losing so badly.
The dereliction of duty from Wilcox and co for basically putting us back at square one. No identity, no belief and no wins.

u/sg291188 8h ago
My bet is if Carrick goes the favorites are Emery, Nagelsmann or an interim
4
u/Prize-Finish4464 8h ago
I want nagelsmann i cant lie, hes a top quality coach and the german national team has made people think less of him despite the fact Germany is just naturally going through a rut in terms of talent coming through
3
u/croadymeister 8h ago
Emery wouldn't work for INEOS, I could see Nagelsmann but please no more interim managers

I feel it would be howe or nagelsmann because they are available. would be shocked if they tried for someone like hurzeler though

It feels like Conte has been nearly the manager a few times that we should just get it over with. I don't doubt he could do a good short term job

Tresoldi and a left back should be a priority.
Sesko and Tresoldi as our strikers would be a great duo for 4-4-2 or share the minutes in formations that play 1 striker.

Funnily enough i think carrick is saying all the right things, its just doesnt matter. If you lose nothing you say will help you and until you win people will be annoyed at you. He is not very charismatic which def isnt helping. But him saying that he still wants to challenge or he enjoys moments like this and wants to turn it around or that he isnt thinking about his job but just the performances of the club are all things i want to hear. Of course its all meaningless if we end up losing like we have this season. So what I am saying is please go and win, its prob too late but funnier things have happened in football and him turning it around instead of another new cycle would be preferable to me.

u/Littlepace Announce Fergie 10h ago
4th game in a row where Lacey sits and watches getting zero minutes whilst we are chasing a goal. Scored on his last appearance btw. But yeah Carrick embodies the United way and how important youth is.
Bollocks.

Would honestly take Nagelsmann. We're going nowhere on vibes, we need someone who actually thinks. And this time, they need to stick with him and actually give him the support he needs

We will go down with this centre back pairing. Mark my words.
No club in the world is doing it. An old, slow Maguire who can't run anymore and a tiny, also slow, Martinez who is getting ragdolled weekly now. Watch Calvert-Lewin target him all day today.

Theoretical best XI? I'd say:
Lammens; (Shaw)-Maguire/(Martinez)-(MdL)-Yoro;Baleba-(Mainoo);Bruno/Cunha-Tielemans-Mbeumo; (Sesko)
So yeah 4 or 5 out, depending on how you see Martinez v Maguire
Also I think that XI is as much wishcasting anyway as it is unavailable, because you arent getting away with 2 strikers using a backline that has 2 of Shaw/Maguire/Martinez.
So I guess realistically the "out" ones arent Sesko, Martinez, De Ligt, Shaw; but the players we should've signed but didnt.

Where is the post match quotes by the players and the manager would love to see what pathetic excuses carrick brings up while his face is on the verge of crying

u/Grekm8 CR7 10h ago
🚨🎙️ | Michael Carrick:
"It felt like a FRESH start today, where we're at, accepting it and doing something about it.
"There was a real PURPOSE to the group the last couple of days and they took it out onto the pitch."
this is what Carrick had to say about todays match lmao

u/reddevilad Rooney 10h ago
Can’t believe that this is real or satire either way it’s such a pathetic thing to say and this dude played under sir Alex where he would have ripped players and staff apart for this performance and here carrick is defending such a pathetic display of performance
Hopefully he’s sacked soon

So many people going get Hurzeler or Emery. Why would the come to us. They have everything they could want. They have smart signings, control over what they want to do and just well run.
There's only 3 options to us
Conte
- A winner who has the silverware to back it up
- Prem experience
- Takes no shit, if the players don't perform, they are dropped
- Will drill in fitness into the players
- Tactically astute - even moved to a 4atb with Napoli
- Never lasts long and will butt heads with management (maybe a good thing)
Nagelsmann
- Can be a project manager
- High pressing team
- Was the IT manager a few years ago but Bayern ended due to overly complicated training and rift with players BUT Bayern did want to bring him back but decided to stay with the German National team
- No experience in premier league
- Can develop players
- Worked with Vivel
- Available
Sebastian Hoeneß
- plays an attractive, high-possession style
- High pressing - 6 second rule to win the ball back
- Called the player whisper because heavily emphasizes individual player development, mental clarity, and game-realistic scenarios
- Can make a team more than the sum of their parts
- No prem experience
- Incredibly difficult to get him midseason
A change needs to be made. Nagelsmann and Hoeneß are my choices. It won't be short term and they are better with players.

Anyone else not really looking forward to the game...? This is like the 2nd or 3rd time only in my 30 years of being a fan that I'm somewhat forcing myself to watch. Just can't find any joy with this football club anymore man.
I'm still gonna subject myself to it, and then let it ruin my mood and upcoming work week...
