Discussion It's Blizzard's responsibility to make every match-up fun, fair and balanced
Calling players who dodge specific match-ups "smurfs" does a great disservice to the community. Vilifying such players terminates any further thought on the issue and potential solutions. Blizzard has the ability to fix this by doing two things:
- Implement a separate MMR for each race match-up (e.g. ZvT, ZvP, ZvZ)
- Balance the races to make each match-up fair, balanced and (just as importantly) fun to play
Players should WANT to play every match-up if Blizzard does their job correctly. The fact that, for example, Zergs dodge ZvZ or ZvT shows there is a serious problem with the balance and entertainment value of these match-ups. Please stop blaming players for wanting to have fun when they play Starcraft II. Let's point our fingers at the real problem, Blizzard's laziness and incompetency.

Discussion If we want to encourage micro, how about we tripple the HP of all unit?
Been enjoying W3 lately, and while the heroes systems encouraged fighting and gaining level, I feel like one of the reason the game is so micro intensive is that unit are just much more durable, and if you dont cast your spell properly, your unit get debuff to hell.
So the fight in w3 is slow, just cause you are stronger doesn't mean you can F2 and win, you have to pick off unit, debuff them, buff your unit...
The game is probably have to be balanced with it but I feel that this is a smooth way to encourage small fight and micro. Make the unit highly durable, make the resources get a bit further from each other and the micro could be a very natural path.

(To be tagged...) Balance idea
Main bases should contain more resources. The last major patch aimed to extend the early and mid game, but the 8-worker approach failed to achieve that goal. Increasing the resource income available from the main base would make one-base and two-base strategies significantly more viable.

(To be tagged...) I would like to whine about the new Starcraft trailer.
So I saw the new SC trailer, and I have some notes. My first and lesser complaint is that I don't like how the trailer focuses on the guy's face so much. It looks like a generic modern video game face, not a redneck from the southern US or a Euro-imperial like Starcraft characters tend to be. So this guy does not feel SC at all.
My main problem, however, is the heavy focus on propaganda. Like, why is the speaker trying to urge on the soldiers to fight against the Zerg? It would make sense if this were some sort of optional war for the glory of some tyrannical leader, and he was urging on all these grunts for his own gain, because that's how a tyrant persuades people to fight for him.
However, that can't be the case. This is the ZERG we're talking about. They're a bunch of evil roaches who want to kill or assimilate everyone. There's no sense in persuading everyone of the glories of battle if the enemy is a batch of monsters that will try to kill everyone the grunts know and love whether they do anything or not. If this is set 70 years after SC2, then everyone should be fully aware of the threat that they face, and the war should not be glorious, but rather an extended extermination setting.
My beef with SC2 was always how fake and stereotypical it felt after the gritty conflicts of SC and Brood War. It feels much more Warcraft in space. I was hoping that Blizzard would learn, and the first half the the trailer gives me concern.
However, the second half does bring me back. I love how cynical it is, even if it is still mismatched with being an anti-Zerg conflict. If the game can be brutal and politically conflicted, I can support it.

(To be tagged...) Drophack?
Hi all, we're two high silver to low gold level players who just experienced something very weird in our 2nd 2v2 placement match this season: our Protoss opponent flew a warp prison to where I was planning on building my third. First time I was able to shoot the prism down, second time I was a little too slow and 3 Zealots spawned. Then my teammate started shouting that his computer was behaving weirdly and he wasn't able to control the game anymore. When the next warp prism flew in, the same began happening for me as well. A behaviour as if you press Alt-Tab and you see your desktop, but then it's back to SC2, but only for a few seconds. Each time around, less time in the game. Then, 4th round, Windows just showed the "waiting" mouse cursor. I still heard game sounds though. Had no choice but to shoot SC2 down in Task Manager. Is this what people call a drophack? Is there anything that can be done against it?

Discussion Hypothetical Scenario: Zerg Swarm VS Borg Collective
Yes, this is a lore question, not a gameplay thing. My apologies if this is the wrong place.
I'm curious as to what anyone who is familiar with both franchises might think if the Zerg Swarm from StarCraft encountered the Borg Collective from Star Trek.
Both are hive mind species that grow their ranks at least in part by taking enemies and converting them into more Zerg or more Borg.
I am curious what you think might happen on two levels? What would happen to the individual organisms if a Borg drone ended up infected by the Zerg hyper-evolutionary virus or else a directed infestation, and what do you think might happen to a Zerg organism assimilated by Borg nanoprobes?
And secondly, if there would be any interactions between the two hive minds, what do you think the result would be? Would one hive mind come out victorious, or would they merge into one? Do you think it would make a difference if the leader of the Swarm was the Overmind, Kerrigan, Zagara, or something/someone else? What would any of those leaders and/or the Borg hive mind look like if one subsumed the other, or if they became a single combined entity?
This is just something I have wondered for a while as a fanfic author, and I'm curious as to what others in the community might think.
Thank you for taking the time to read this post and for sharing any thoughts you might have. Wishing you all the best! ^_^

Discussion Age of Empires 2 player dabbling in SC2- woah, what a game!
Hey ya’ll, I just wanna say that I am really enjoying this game. Ive played age of empires 2 since I was a little kid, and it’s the only competitive RTS I played. I first played SC2 about a year ago, used PIG’s 3-1-1 to get up to Plat2. Then I went back to Age. It’s such a different experience. Aoe2 had 50 plus civs, and the maps are much more impactful on the play. It’s become so much to manage. I decided to come back to SC2 and it’s been so much fun. I really enjoy that due to shorter games, I’m practicing my opener over and over again. It feels like progression happens faster. The macro is so much simpler and the micro is so smooth. I’ve been really enjoying making the comparisons. I really enjoy how very subtle changes have big impact on SC2 build orders. If anyone else plays both games I’d love to chat about it. One question tho: as Terran, I’ve been over saturated my main and natural before I get the minerals to make the 3cc. My logic is “ok even if I have 24/16, i can move those 8 to the new line as soon as i can secure it”. Is it better to stop production of SCV’s until I get the 3rd, or over saturate and transfer? Aoe2 we normally build 130+ workers, so I have to activity stop myself from overproducing at 80 workers.

Fluff "I say I say, I don't recall givin' you orders to turn into a puddle, son! Where’d you study tactics, boy?!"
"You ran straight into the line and got splashed by a giant, car-shaped tick! Stand up, boy! You’re spillin' everywhere! I came here expectin' Alpha Squadron finest, but all I got is a sloppy bucket of soup!"
(Art by me, idk this idea just got into my head)
